It would defiantly be a special permission beast but Horses were mention in Redwall
I was also wondering, and I'm fairly sure they are not mentioned in any books, but what about playing Possums.

And are Marlfoxes restricted because they all died in "Marlfox"?

Hm..I think we would restrict horses as they are insanely large compared to everyone else. Now this is my interpretation, but BJ was probably still fleshing out the basis of Redwall in that book and came to the same conclusion as I did about horses. As I haven't heard of them making any re-appearances.
That's probably the reason for the Marlfoxes being restricted, *shrugs* I had no say in that so I don't know.

Ashstripe - They're restricted because they are an 'unusual' species. The concept of restricting is to keep unnatural populations down. Rakko Streamwater - I'm guessing that wolverines and badgers are roughly the same size, Redwall-wise, at least, and that wolves are only a little larger than foxes, even though wolves would technically be the same size, or larger, than badgers or wolverines. I like to reference BJ's stories for sizing, but since the wolverine and badger never really met in Rakkety Tam, all I can do is assume - the only reason I guess the wolf size is because of Urgan Nagru, who wore a wolf pelt and skull. I haven't read Eulalia yet, but I don't think there are opossums in Redwall. Opossums are native to the Americas, IIRC, like raccoons. Also, the horse was only mentioned in Redwall because BJ was still trying to settle on what Redwall would be like - Redwall is perhaps the least 'dependable' source for Redwall because it was the first story written.

Thank you for clearing up the Marlfox issue. I would have loved to be one, but that's beside the point.

The only Appearence of a Horse was in the first book, Redwall. Cluny had a wagon being pulled by one and then CRASH

I'm pretty sure that the sea- suffix merely means you're from the area and not a new species altogether, mate. ;]

Yes, Harvest Mice and Pygmy Shrews are not listed. They are separate species. I checked.

Welcome, mate. I know nine species that are not on the list, Wood Mouse, Mountain Hare, Robin, Rook, Little Owl, Great Horned Owl, Seal, Seal Lion, and Dolphin. I looked the ones I wasn't too sure about up and they are separate species and they appear in Redwall at least once. I will let you know if I think of any more species that are not already on the list. Merged, don't post consecutively.

What about a Goshawk? They appear in Redwall. ZI think they would be 'neutral'...?
