"Yes,I am an assassin. No, I wasn't sent here on a job, it is simply my profession and I felt you should know, beings how you're housing me.'" Onyxwing explained.
Alne's expression turned sourly confused. "Wheel, ah' course," she replied, barely hiding the cynical tone in her voice. "'Tis only polite tae let a body noo if ye are an assassin, ye ken?" Obviously, this squirrel was rather comfortable with his job, otherwise he'd not have shared anything about it. Which only made matters worse in her mind. She was just glad they were the only three in Great Hall at the moment.

"Yes,I am an assassin. No, I wasn't sent here on a job, it is simply my profession and I felt you should know, beings how you're housing me.'" Onyxwing explained.
Leander was still horrified. It was a nice gesture for Onyxwing to tell them now that he was an assassin, but he worried that his continued presence could threaten the abbey. After all Redwall was never made to house assassins. Though his caution remained, Leander could not quite bring himself to justify throwing Onyxwing out either. He had just finished helping in the kitchens and some of the other abbey dwellers seemed to have taken a liking to him.
"Wheel, ah' course," she replied, barely hiding the cynical tone in her voice. "'Tis only polite tae let a body noo if ye are an assassin, ye ken?"
Leander thought for a moment before voicing himself, he began to chew on his whiskers again. "Alne and I will have to discuss this, b-but first..er... you will have to promise us you will not carry out any duties your...job requires, as long as you remain here."
Happy he came up with something Leander felt his horror recede. He was worried he did not have the right to make Onyxwing this promise, but Leander decided he would throw his remaining trust towards Onyxwing in this promise. If Onyxwing would not comply why should they?

"Of course not! I would never commit such acts among these kind abbey beasts!" Onyxwing exclaimed while he unsheathed one of his Kurkis and spun it vertically near the handle out of habit.
"Besides, you've already given me food and shelter, what more could I ask for?"

Did he have to say that with his weapon out?! Alne thought. "Ah should ri'leh hope not," she said, leaning away from the assassin. She would definitely have to be careful around him if he swung his weapons crazily all the time.
"Besides, you've already given me food and shelter, what more could I ask for?"
"Ah c'n think of a few thin's," the black squirrel replied uneasily. Keeping her limbs and tail out of Onyxwing's reach, she continued, "Look, far be it from me tae assume th' worst a' ye. Ah'm allas willin' tae give th' benefit a' th' doubt. Bu' ah hope ye unnerstan' why et be 'ard tae trust ye after ye tell us ye be an assassin, ye ken?" She glanced at Leander, who was looking far more uncomfortable than she'd seen him all day.
"Wheel need a few minutes tae discuss," she decided. "Won't we, Leandehr?"

"Of course not! I would never commit such acts among these kind abbey beasts!" Onyxwing exclaimed while he unsheathed one of his Kurkis and spun it vertically near the handle out of habit.
Leander was both assured and horrified at the same time. While he wanted to trust Onyxwing, the spinning blades made him hesitant and left him feeling very uneasy.
"Besides, you've already given me food and shelter, what more could I ask for?"

Leander had to agree with Alne. However, the blades Onyxwing carried left him fearful for some reason. They seemed to rip through his budding confidence and left him with a feeling of dread.
"Wheel need a few minutes tae discuss," she decided. "Won't we, Leandehr?"
His mind snapped back to reality and he nodded, glad to be leaving for the moment.
"Y-yes," he replied, "we'll be just a moment." He got up and walked towards the end of the hall to discuss what they should do with Onyxwing. He began to chew on his whiskers as he thought of how to bring Onyxwing in.

As the two went to the other end of the room, Onyxwing spun his knife a few more times before sheating it with a throw downwards. The flying squirrel didn't really mind, he had been given worse welcomes to places like these. Asthey debated Onyxwing sat down and got comfortable in the chair before tipping his ghillie suit's hood over his head and propping his feet up on the table. Might as well take a little nap while the Peacefuls discuss their prefered mode of torture!

Alne paced the floor, making sure she and Leander were out of earshot in Great Hall. As the otter nervously chewed in his whiskers, she stroked her chin, her expression pensive.
"Wheel, obviously, th' firs' order a' business is tae tell th' abbot," she said. "Ar a' leas' some beast else, afore . . . something 'appens." She vaguely indicated Onyxwing. She was really hoping "something" wouldn't happen, but if it did . . . she didn't want to find out what would happen.
"Naow, ah noo 'e hasn't tried nothin'," she continued. "But, we still can't trust 'im." She caught herself. Had the flying squirrel given them any reason to trust him? First, he'd stolen her pie, making her rush the rest of dessert-making so she'd be on time for lunch. Then, he had run her all over the abbey grounds, but he had helped with the preparations for dessert. But, after that, he had admitted to being an assassin, an unsavory line of work.
Considering his track record for the day, Onyxwing didn't have a lot going for him. Alne presented these points to Leander for a bit of perspective, to back up her point of their inability to trust the flying squirrel. Then, after restraining herself from a flaming tirade, she patiently awaited the otter's response.

Now that they were out of earshot, Leander felt more at ease and could focus better on the situation at hand. As he dwelt upon Onyxwing’s arrival, Leander could not help realizing that his caution towards the flying squirrel was not unfounded. Onyxwing had stolen a pie and brandished a weapon within the abbey, actions that deserved punishment and would make anybeast leery. However, there was still Onyxwing’s character, which after helping in the kitchens and being up front about who he was, seemed to be quite good. Conflicted on the matter he turned to Alne who seemed to be considering Onyxwing’s case very seriously.
"Wheel, obviously, th' firs' order a' business is tae tell th' abbot," she said. "Ar a' leas' some beast else, afore . . . something 'appens." She vaguely indicated Onyxwing. "Naow, ah noo 'e hasn't tried nothin'," she continued. "But, we still can't trust 'im."
Alne then proceeded to explain all of Onyxwing’s offenses. However, all the while Leander kept recalling how honest Onyxwing had been with his profession and how he had helped them in the kitchens to make up for the theft. Normally, Leander would never feel inclined to give someone like Onyxwing a break, but something was different. Perhaps it had been how great he had felt up until the situation had arrived, but Leander felt that if anything, Onyxwing was an honest creature.
“You’re absolutely right, Alne,” he replied, “Onyxwing just cannot be trusted.” He looked over to Onyxwing who was napping peacefully where they had left him. “However,” he added turning to Alne and looking her straight in the eye, “I believe he is an honest beast. After all why would he be so up front about his profession? On top of that, he had also helped us finish lunch when he could have easily flown off.”
Leander paused. He still felt ambivalent towards allowing Onyxwing in the abbey, but a part of him somewhere was telling Leander to at least give the beast a chance.
Leander put his paws around his face, as he struggled to come up with some way to explain himself. “I suppose we should just…” he paused. A part of him did not want to continue, but he knew he had to now. Taking a breath he began again. “We should just give the beast a chance and tell the abbot,” he spluttered.

“You’re absolutely right, Alne,” he replied, “Onyxwing just cannot be trusted.”
Alne nodded confidently, glad to see the otter was on her side. She had laid down a convincing argument, after all.
“However,” he added turning to Alne and looking her straight in the eye, “I believe he is an honest beast. After all why would he be so up front about his profession? On top of that, he had also helped us finish lunch when he could have easily flown off.”
Alne opened her mouth to reply, but no words came, so she clammed up. Leander was right. The flying squirrel had helped out quite a bit. Perhaps she was letting her irritation at the stolen pie cloud her judgement. Onyxwing had been thoroughly honest, so far as she could tell.
“We should just give the beast a chance and tell the abbot,” he spluttered.
The black squirrel didn't reply for awhile. She glanced over at Onyxwing, studying him for a moment, lost in thought. Then she turned back to Leander. "Aye, we should," she said finally. "Ah'll kee' an eye on 'im while ye alert yon abbot. Meet me back in th' kitchens." This whole development was bringing out the worst in her somehow. She felt alarmingly less chatty and friendly than she normally did. And much more irritated. It was unsettling.
((Sorry for the delay, guys!))

((Ooc: Permission to briefly G-mod Abbot's permission please!))
Alne seemed largely in agreement with what Leander was saying. For some reason, he had not thought that Alne felt the same way he had, it seemed foreign to Leander to think that way. He had given in to his thoughts for a few moments until Alne's decision finally brought him back to the abbey.
"Aye, we should," she said finally. "Ah'll kee' an eye on 'im while ye alert yon abbot. Meet me back in th' kitchens."
Leander nodded and quickly dashed out of the great hall. After working in the abbey for several years in nearly every position you could think of, Leander had grown quite acquainted with the schedules of those he had worked under. The abbot in fact used to ask him for help for many things when he was too busy to get to them.
What worried Leander, however, was how he would sound bringing such odd news to the abbot. How would he tell the abbot they wanted to let in an assassin? This was for the greater good, however, his personal feelings should not get in the way. Feeling less pressure on his shoulders he charged through the halls of the abbey in search of the abbot.
((----------Slight time skip here, insert your own segue--------------))
Leander darted through the halls once more, but this time he had an answer. Charging back into the Great Hall, Leander noticed Alne looking somewhat irritated as she watched the napping Onyxwing.
Suddenly a mischievous thought came into Leander's head and he decided to act upon it. Mischief was not usually for Leander, but being in a better mood than normal, he felt happy to indulge it for once. "A-alne," approaching the table Onyxwing slept at he continued,"would you like to do the honors and wake the beast?" He then smiled at her to clue her in on how the meeting with the abbot wentl.

Alne raised an eyebrow at him, a half-smile tugging at one corner of her mouth. "T'would be mah pleasure," she replied. Taking out a wooden spoon from her apron sash (she always kept it with her for luck), she rapped the flying squirrel's shoulder sharply. "Wake up, ye grea' sleepy'ead," she ordered. "We got some news for ye."
((Meh, short.))
