"By the way, what is for lunch anyway?"
Alne heard the inquiry, unsure if the strange flying creature was taunting her or asking honestly. Tired of the chase, she decided to answer honestly. "Yon friar be in command a' th' main course, but there be pie fer dessert," she called out, descending the wall steps. She made her way towards Leander and the culprit slowly, not wanting to scare either of them off. It was rare for her to fly off the handle as she had done. But, when she did, she could recover quickly, even when others were still reeling from the shock of her anger.
"But ah still woont ye tae apologize, ye grea' greedy whatever-ye-are," she snapped, crossing her arms.

"While you're at it...er...you should tell us who or what you really are!" Leander added. For some reason he felt uneasy, the way he always felt before some prank usually took place. Perhaps it was the way the flying creature and Alne both seemed to be planning something. However, there seemed little he could do about it at this moment so instead he began to closely watch the other two.

"I'm sorry for taking your pie Ms. Baker of Pie Deliciousness"
"While you're at it...er...you should tell us who or what you really are!"
The Otter looked uneasy, prone to panic. So Onyxwing decided to stick with the deal and allieviate the beasts worries.
"My name is Onyxwing and I am a Flying Squirrel. Which you have probably never heard of, beings how you live in a peaceful Abbey."
Onyxwing let this sink in, most beasts would never believe in such "Nonsense" as a Flying Squirrel unless they had seen it with their own eyes, which these two had. "I would prefer you kept this under wraps, as my kind tend to attract attention from oddity shows and past enemies, and , considering my line of work, neither would be welcome."
Onyxwing extended a paw to anyone who would take it.

"I'm sorry for taking your pie Ms. Baker of Pie Deliciousness"
Alne nodded in satisfaction. "Ach, see?" she said. "Naow were tha' so hard?" His nickname for her was amusing, she had to admit. Ms. Baker of Pie Deliciousness? There was one she hadn't heard before. She was about to introduce herself properly when the creature spoke again.
"My name is Onyxwing and I am a Flying Squirrel. Which you have probably never heard of, beings how you live in a peaceful Abbey."
Ah beg tae differ, Alne thought, but she replied instead, "Alne Nikta. Th' pleasure's all ours, Onyxwing." Once again, she managed to mispronounce a name with her thick accent, but it couldn't be helped. And she had in fact heard of flying squirrels before, in old stories and legends, mostly. But she had never seen one before.
"I would prefer you kept this under wraps, as my kind tend to attract attention from oddity shows and past enemies, and , considering my line of work, neither would be welcome."
Alne glanced around at the small crowd of abbey beasts gathered to marvel at the strange newcomer. "Wheel naow, seems ye dinnae do a grand auld job a' stayin' under yon wraps, ye ken?"

"I'm sorry for taking your pie Ms. Baker of Pie Deliciousness"
Perhaps this creature wasn't planning anything. However; Leander could not quite bring himself to trust the creature just yet. He had some lingering doubts and decided it would be best to keep his guard up.
"My name is Onyxwing and I am a Flying Squirrel. Which you have probably never heard of, beings how you live in a peaceful Abbey."
So Onyxwing was a flying squirrel. It seemed simple enough though he would never have thought of a squirrel being able to fly.
"Though you need not worry of trouble at Redwall," Leander added. However, Leander was now concerned for Redwall. What manner of "past enemies" was Onxywing referring to? In fact what "line of work" was he in? Either way this was not good news for Redwall. As other abbey dwellers began to gather around the flying squirrel, Leander began to relax a bit. Hopefully Onyxwing would not try anything funny in front of everyone.
Onyxwing extended a paw to anyone who would take it.
Leander shook Onyxwing's paw firmly, "My name is Leander Rivereye." He hoped he had sounded confident as he said this. "Welcome to Redwall," he added as he looked into the other beast's eyes, searching for any for any sign of deception.

"Wheel naow, seems ye dinnae do a grand auld job a' stayin' under yon wraps, ye ken?"
"I did say the pie was really good didn't I?" asked Onyxwing as the Redwallers approached. Hopefully this small crowd would stay small. As he hid his wing flaps underneath his ghillie suit before the crowd saw he heard Leander speak.
"Though you need not worry of trouble at Redwall,"
"I'm sure I don't, sir, these walls are thick, the beasts are nice, and larders are full!" Onyxwing replied. He wasn't going to reveal he was a flying squirrel, yet. He would probably do it at lunch when stories were told among beasts. His kind were living legends to anyone, even fellow assasins.
Leander shook Onyxwing's paw firmly, "My name is Leander Rivereye." He hoped he had sounded confident as he said this. "Welcome to Redwall,"
"Thank you for the warm welcome sir and ma'am, pleased to meet you both!" He gestured to Alne and Leander accordingly as the twin bells tolled. "It would appear to be lunch! I hope they have pie for desert!" Onyxwing said with a chuckle. He could go for another pie!

"Thank you for the warm welcome sir and ma'am, pleased to meet you both!"
Alne gave a curt nod, still a little irritated with the day's episode.
He gestured to Alne and Leander accordingly as the twin bells tolled. "It would appear to be lunch! I hope they have pie for desert!" Onyxwing said with a chuckle.
"Aye, but there nae be much pie naow, ye ken?" the black squirrel replied sharply, brushing past the newcomer on her way back to the kitchens. She forced herself to conceal her rudeness, but this little chap just would not drop the subject of pie! And she still had baking to do!
Already Redwallers were crowding Great Hall, anxious for lunch. At least the friar had handled the main course. Alne still had a little time to finish the pies. She beckoned to Leander and Onyxwing. "If thar's tae be pie, ah'll need 'elp," she ordered.

This creature certainly adjusts to Redwall life fast. He had hardly been here for an hour and already he knew it was now lunch time. Suddenly it dawned on Leander that Onyxwing could have been spying on the abbey for some time before finally showing his face here. Speaking of which, what did bring him here?
Following the other two inside for lunch Leander realized they still needed to finish up in the kitchen. Thankfully, however, Alne was already dashing through the whole kitchen finishing the rest of the pies.
She beckoned to Leander and Onyxwing. "If thar's tae be pie, ah'll need 'elp," she ordered.
Leander thought for a moment before deciding to help. He did have a pretty busy schedule today, but the rest of his chores could wait until after lunch. At least, he hoped. He did his best not to dwell on it and just began to help Alne.
"A-alright!" he began excitedly, "what do we need to do?" Leander had suddenly realized he had never actually helped cook in the kitchens before, but hopefully he could improvise. He couldn't let Alne down now.

Alne led the two males into the kitchens, paws on her hips as she assessed the situation. They had much baking to do for every beast at Redwall to be satisfied. Thankfully, she already had enough tarts and some cake already made, along with one pie.
"Leahnder," she began, finding a list of ingredients. "Fetch these thing from yon larder. Onyxwing," she turned to the flying squirrel. She hesitated before giving him a job. "Ye'll be watchin' yon ovens tae see if th' pies be done once ah get 'em in thar." Turning to find a mixing bowl, she had a thought.
"An' doon't even think aboot eatin' another pie afore dessert!" she said sharply.
((Agh! So . . . short!))

Onyxwing half-walked and was half-dragged into the kitchen. "
"Fetch these thing from yon larder. Onyxwing," she turned to the flying squirrel. She hesitated before giving him a job. "Ye'll be watchin' yon ovens tae see if th' pies be done once ah get 'em in thar."
"Yes, Miss Alne!" Onyxwing said before running of to the ovens. He had heard stories of the wonderful food at this abbey and he was finally here! As Onyxwing watched the pies he was half tempted to take another. But he would just have to wait until lunch.
Not to say that his stomach agreed with that.

"Leahnder," she began, finding a list of ingredients. "Fetch these thing from yon larder."
Leander dashed off into the larder. He already knew where everything was he just needed to know what he had to grab. Slowly within him a pleasant wave spread through his veins. He did not know why, but perhaps it was that he really felt useful. He never really felt that even with all his other chores. With zeal he quickly took all the ingredients to the kitchen.
"An' doon't even think aboot eatin' another pie afore dessert!" she said sharply.
Leander had forgotten that Onyxwing was in the kitchens with them. Almost immediately caution brought his focus to Redwall and he grew suspicious of the flying squirrel.
"Er...Alne?" he asked in a whisper so that Onyxwing would not hear, "you sure we can trust 'him' in the kitchens?"

"Er...Alne?" he asked in a whisper so that Onyxwing would not hear, "you sure we can trust 'him' in the kitchens?"
Alne shook her head as she readied the ingredients for the pie batters. "Nae beast'd trust him in th' kitchens," she replied in an equally low tone. "But ah figured he'd get a wee bit a' punishment watchin' yon pies withoot bein' able tae eat 'em."
Before long, four delicious pies had been baked, and there were three more on the way. Out in Great Hall, every beast was ready for dessert. Alne set up the tarts she had made on a couple large trays. She handed the trays to Leander and Onyxwing. "Take these oot thar an' set one on each table, ye ken?"
Once they left, she loaded the pies and other treats onto a cart, wheeling out into Great Hall. Every beast opted to sample her baking, and she smiled warmly and thanked those who complimented her. When dessert was over, and most Redwallers had vacated Great Hall, Alne found a table to sit and scraped a small lunch for herself from the leftovers. She was weary from the day's escapades, and her normally chatty and friendly demeanor had diminished. She ate her lunch quietly, but invited her two helpers to sit with her before they cleaned up.

Onyxwing finished with the ovens and ws again put to work serving food. Hopefully he would snag some wondeful culinary delights after lunch! As soon as most had left the Great Hall Onyxwing went and began eating by Alne. he heaped his plate up and finished it off with desert.
This pie was just as good as the first.

Alne was right. Not only was Onyxwing righting his wrong, but he would also be easier to keep an eye on. Satisfied Leander returned to baking pies. As soon as several of the pies were finished Leander went to work helping serve dessert to the rest of the abbey. Seeing the abbey beasts enjoy the pies filled Leander with a sense of well-being that left him in a happy mood.
Once finished, Leander returned to the great hall and joined Onyxwing and Alne for a quiet lunch. Despite lunch being mostly conserved of scraps not eaten, Leander could have sworn it was the most delicious thing he had ever had.
"Well," he spoke breaking the silence, "nice job mates!"

"Well," he spoke breaking the silence, "nice job mates!"
Alne smiled, finishing off a leftover tart. "Aye, an' ah thank ye both fer all ye did," she said. With a wink at Onyxwing, she added, "Och, an' ah think yon flyer squirrel has learned his lesson. T'would have been a grea' sadness tae 'ave lunch at Redwall withoot pie."
She ate a little more of her lunch, and then had a thought. "Ye know, Leander, ah can allas use a wee bit more 'elp in yon kitchens. T'is, if ye doon't 'ave too many other thing tae do 'round th' abbey." She was considering offering the same thing to Onyxwing, but she wasn't entirely sure if the flying squirrel was even living at Redwall.

"Aye, an' ah thank ye both fer all ye did," she said.
"Not at all, mate!" Leander had slipped into slang, but did not care to correct himself. He was overjoyed to have been a part of something different and felt important doing so.
With a wink at Onyxwing, she added, "Och, an' ah think yon flyer squirrel has learned his lesson. T'would have been a grea' sadness tae 'ave lunch at Redwall withoot pie."
"Aye, 'opefully Onyxwing learned 'is lesson," he added, "t'would be a great shame for 'im to 'ave missed it."
Leander's caution toward Onyxwing had begun to simmer down after seeing his work in the kitchens. However, Leander also assumed that Onyxwing would be leaving soon anyway.
"Ye know, Leander, ah can allas use a wee bit more 'elp in yon kitchens. T'is, if ye doon't 'ave too many other thing tae do 'round th' abbey."
"Well o' course!" he replied excitedly, "I'd love t'help in th' kitchens!"
He honestly was excited for it, but he realized it would make him even more busy, but this did not really bother Leander much. More work after all meant less time to worry. In his excitement he had forgotten about Onyxwing, but suddenly he remembered that Onyxwing may want to leave.
"Er, Onyxwing?" he asked, "will y' be leavin' soon?" If he was they should probably prepare some food for Onyxwing to take along his journey.

Onyxwing didn't listen to their talking. It was mainly about Leander working in the kitchens. Then Leander mentioned him.
"Er, Onyxwing?" he asked, "will y' be leavin' soon?"
"I might stay here a few days, nice and calm here... If I can pay in stories I imagine that'll be the rent!" Onyxwing said laughing
"I can guess no one here has ever seen my kind. We're a little cryptic and secluded. Never had much a reason to work with the outside world until the assasin work came along. We sure do good at that!" he said gesturing to his bow. These beasts probably deserved to know that about him. They were housing him after all. His talking had lead a small group of abbey beasts to marvel at him. He was okay with it, he had to admit, he was pretty odd.

Alne chuckled. "Thar be nae need fer rent," she said. "Ye need nae pay tae stay at Redwall."
"I can guess no one here has ever seen my kind. We're a little cryptic and secluded. Never had much a reason to work with the outside world until the assasin work came along. We sure do good at that!" he said gesturing to his bow.
Alne was in the middle of biting a piece of fruit and she paused with her mouth halfway open, surprised shock written on her face. Had the flying squirrel just said he was an assassin?! Either he was lying, or just really bad at keeping his secrets.
"Ah beg yer pardon?" she replied, her voice barely above a whimper.

Leander was quite content, he had never really felt like this in some time. As he waited for an answer from Onyxwing he began to sip on some water.
"I can guess no one here has ever seen my kind. We're a little cryptic and secluded. Never had much a reason to work with the outside world until the assasin work came along. We sure do good at that!" he said gesturing to his bow.
At the word "assassin" Leander's eyes bulged and the water he was pleasantly sipping a moment before shot out from his mouth and landed all over the table. Leander was right, he knew there was something funny about this flying squirrel. All traces of jubilation were replaced with shock and concern.
"W-w-w-what did you say?" he stammered.

"Ah beg yer pardon?" she replied, her voice barely above a whimper.
He heard the squirrel talk and was about to answer when the otter spat water all over the table.
"W-w-w-what did you say?" he stammered.
Onyxwing sighed. These abbey beasts would be scared out of their wits.
"Yes, I am an assassin. No, I wasn't sent here on a job, it is simply my profession and I felt you should know, beings how you're housing me.'" Onyxwing explained. Hopefully they wouldn't kick him out.
Hopefully...
Lately he had a lot riding on hope...
