Yurrtem Darkfur was wandering around Redwall Abbey, having completed all of his chores for the next two days.
He was strolling around Great Hall, having just looked at Redwall's prized posession, the tapestry depicting Redwall Abbey's founder and warrior, Martin the Warrior.
As Yurrtem strolled, he started thinking about all the information he had learned by talking to the other abbeydwellers and from reading the literature stored in the gatehouse. He admired all the heroes and heroines that defeated vermin and evil creatures. He thought of all the heroes and their enemies and how they vanquished them. Being a mole, Yurrtem especially admired Young Dinny, molewarrior and the first Foremole of Redwall Abbey.
Yurrtem began thinking of Matthias the Warrior and his family and friends. He remembered reading about the Late Rose Summer Wars and how Matthias defeated the evil rat, Cluny the Scourge. The young mole remembered how Matthias befriended the young sparrow Warbeak and how she became Queen of the Sparras. Thinking of this, Yurrtem began wondering. What had happened to all the Sparras, were there no more? Yurrtem had never known of any sparrow visiting Redwall in his lifetime. Yurrtem looked up to where he thought Warbeak Loft was located. Being a mole, it made Yurrtem feel rather queezy thinking of how anybeast could live up that high. However, Yurrtem was curious about what was up there, and he wasn't as afraid of heights as most other moles.
After a while, Yurrtem made up his mind. He was going to climb up to Warbeak Loft.
