NOTION: Rausaro gave me permission create this Abbot-character
Name: Father Marklin
Gender: a male
Age: 64
Species: a mouse
Occupation: Abbot of Redwall Abbey
Physical Appearance:
In his younger days Marklin's pelt was bark- brown, but now age has turn it almost wholly gray. Cream-white fur covers his underbelly, cheeks and rounds around his eyes. He has also gained some additional weight over the years but that only proves that Kitchen's Friar and Baker conjures most delicious meals in whole Mossflower.
Abbot Marklin smiles a warm, fatherly smile and his eyes sparkles affection towards fellow beast around him. He wears Abbot's cloak and a simple rope as a belt. His eyesight has gone weaker over the years, so residents of Redwall crafted him a pair of pince-nez.
Personality:
When appointed as the Abbot, Marklin was first horrified how he ever could take care such and an important task. But he grew into the role very quickly, not a surprise for anyone else.
Marklin is patient, caring and farsighted, a beast fit to listen others in their troubles and give them guidance. Calm and collected he never rushes things and never seems lose his temper. He might raise his voice, if needed, but he never shouts. It has been years when anybeast saw Abbot Marklin furious and Dibbuns whisper a tale about how in that day even Badger Mother herself hid in the closet.
Marklin takes his responsibility as Abbot to his heart and puts other beasts wellbeing before his own.
Nevertheless our beloved Father has a bit mischievous side residing under his dignified Abbot robes. He loves to join in Dibbuns plays whenever it is a imagery-trip to find pirates' treasure or hiding from bedtime. Marklin himself states that he joins in Dibbuns pranks purely to keep an eye on the little ones and ensure nothing truly dangerous or bad will happen... But most of the Redwallers know Father Marklin just likes to take break from responsibilities of the Abbot now and then. (honestly he sometimes gives more hard time to the Badger Mother than Dibbuns)
There is no book in Redwall's library that Marklin hasn't read at least twice and with good memory he remembers everything he had read... Well, almost. Age had began do tricks in his memory, but even if details have started slip from his mind, at least he still remembers which book contains what kind of information. It's little bit funny that even thought he remembers bunch about books he's absent-minded with everything else. He tends to lose his things immediately after putting them down.
History:
Father Marklin has lived in Redwall his whole life. He had always been interested in books so at first, as a Dibbun he become Redwall's librarian errand boy and then apprentice -- and eventually the Redwall's librarian and chronicler. He was - and still is - a bookworm, but he didn't seclude himself into the tome of books, quite opposite: he left his doors open and every beast was welcome to visit him in library. He liked to talk with others and help them with their problems.
In his younger days Father Marklin had adventures of his own, nothing grand scale, but adventures nevertheless. Remembering them makes him still chuckle with fondness.
As said before the appointment to be the Redwall's Abbot came much of shock to Marklin. At first he wasn't sure if he could handle such responsibility, but honoring the former Abbot's wishes he took the mantle. Now he had been the Abbot almost thirty years and during that time Redwall's Abbey has prospered in his care. And as many Abbots and Abbess before him, Marklin wishes that it would stay in that way, without dangers that would threaten the peaceful lives of goodbeasts dwelling in Redwall and the Mossflower. Thought his great wish is to see the Abbey's next Warrior with his own eyes, before leaving this life, as the Sword of Martin has lain in front the Tapestry for long time without its wielder... But in same time he dreads that to happen, as the emerging of the Abbey's Warrior always has meant the great peril was reaching for the Redwall.
Strengths:
- Book-wise, thus knows much of many kind of things.
- Good memory about the things he has read.
- Understanding and patient beyond the believe.
Weaknesses:
- Bad eyesight (that's why he needs pince-nez)
- He's getting old and you all know what that does to the beast: he ain't that swift he used to be.
