Keeping his breathing steady as he jogged up the chilly sand toward Salamandrastron Seig mentally congratulated himself on not being out of breath by now. It was only a week ago that he would struggle to keep going now but the running was definitely getting him back up to strength. Though the running wouldn't do it by itself, eventually he would have to start doing combat drills again and that was all up to the hares to decide. But, he told himself, they seem to be getting more and more used to me as time passes, maybe soon they'll let me have my weapons back.
Stopping for a moment to take a drink and splash some cool water over his face Seig bent over and rubbed his mostly healed left foot, the one that Badger Lord Braythe had stepped on before winter set it. By now it was mostly healed, and would only give him pain if he really leant on it or jumped. But the main thing he kept telling himself is that it was getting better, and that's the most important thing. Setting the flask back down he set off again down the dunes away from Salamandrastron.
From a distance it would almost seem like the runner was a tall brown and white hare, sans the ears, as Seig had taken to wearing a Salamandrastron uniform most of the time. His old clothes having been damaged and dirtied during his time at the mountain and had yet to be mended, not that he minded - they were well made pieces of kit.
Continuing along his run he took the time to think back on what had happened to him recently, the steady slosh of the waves helping to deepen his ruminations. Arriving at the mountain was definitely very different that he had expected, with the resident Badger Lord nearly killing him and instead crushing his foot. After he had been taken in the hares and badger seemed to view him with a air of disdain and distrust until the weeks and weeks started to pass. Once he had proven that he wasn't there to spy or steal they warmed up to him a bit more than before, but he knew that he would never be able to stay inside that mountain without any ill will - maybe one of the reasons he was exercising outside so much lately, give him a chance to get away from the stares of the cadets and senior officers of a 'vermin' so close.
Breathing a little deeper he nodded as he was almost at his turnaround point to start heading back toward the mountain. Good run today, would probably head inside and grab something to eat...as long as the hares hadn't already taken it all.
