It was a quiet, sunny day on the River Moss. The river flowed ever gently, insects chirped without worry. It was a peaceful-SPLASH. Jellal woke up in a sandy cave. He remembered what happened now. He was talking with Inktail along the River Moss. Then he felt something hit him on the back of his head. He should've figured the camp had a underwater entrance, due to seeing the condition of his clothes.
He sat up and saw Inktail nearby. "A little warning next time please?" He says to Inktail before trying to dry off his clothes. He started going through his backpack, making sure nothing was too damaged and wet. Thankfully, nothing much was wet, though too much for his liking.

Inktail winced at Jellal's words, smiling sheepishly at his friend, well the rat he hoped was still his friend, as he tossed the poor guy a towel to dry himself with further.
"Sorry 'bout that, I was going to but it's a lot harder to work, 'sorry mate, gotta knock ya out real quick.' into a conversation than I thought it would be."
He bites his lip nervously, he hadn't wanted to, but this was the only safe place he had been able to remember within a short enough walk at the time.
"I know yer probably about ready ta whack me upside the head, I just hope you can forgive me."

A large figure appeared at the scene, thinking about the last beasts he spotted here before they vanished. He wanted to see what the commotion was about, but they were gone by the time he reached the river.
"River Moss.. I wonder what th' Otter's of Camp Willow are doin' t'day. I 'aven't been there in a few months. Maybe those two vermin lookin' beasts are there. I could be wrong 'bout them bein' verim an' all.." The muscularly large beast said to himself before slipping into the river.
After a few minutes of swimming, the Large Otter popped up in the camp through the underwater entrance. He used his powerful limbs to shoot himself out of the water and land on the ground. "'Ello? Any beast 'ere..?" He noticed minimal movement in the camp. Then saw two peculiar looking creatures by the camp fire. It took no time to realize that it was the same two beasts he saw earlier. Only good beasts knew how to get into the camp, so his assumptions earlier were wrong.
"Ey there!" He said before walking over to the two by the fire. "I 'ope you don't mind me sittin' next t' ya two." The Otter rubbed his large paws together and put them by the fire to warm them up from the cold swim. "Th' names Rex. Rex Irontail. I'm a woodworker, ship, an' buildin' designer. A beast of th' trades one could say." Rex stated with a relaxed and calm tone of voice.

Jellal was slightly surprised by the Otters entrance. Big, tough, and a large scar from what he can tell right off. He was overly nice from right off. As per standard with otters he meets all the time.
"Nice to umm...meet you Rex." Jellal says politely.
"The name is Jellal Orios rex." Jellal says to Rex. He continued to dry himself off. Then he went through his backpack again to make sure everything was there. He was satisfied and closed his backpack.

Inktail looked up to see who had entered, and grinned widely. A smooth laid back grin back in place, he looked the otter over, staying relaxed despite the fact that this guy was likely big enough to count as two of himself. At the question Inktail shakes his head and replies,
"Not at all, pleased ta meet ya Rex, name's Inktail Furtif, just Inktail is fine with me though. I've been a fisher along the river fer a while actually, don't think I've had the pleasure to bump into ya before now though."
Inktail does look him over once more as if to reassure himself of his own words before chuckling happily as he warms himself as well,
"Everything should be in there Jellal, I made sure it was left alone." As he says this Inktail is painfully aware that he never got the answer of if his pal was planning on forgiving him.

The large Otter smiled, speaking with a gruff, deep tone of voice. "It's nice t' meet ya too, Jellal." He looked over to Inktail who had similar mannerisms to a large variety of Otters. A weasel who acted similar to an Otter. It wasn't right, but Rex did not feel any threats from the two creatures who were the same species of the many vermin he had fought in battles. Rex didn't mind, but living on the side of Mossflower and seeing the many attacks on others made him prejudice and weary to the stereotypical species of Vermin.
"Ah, I'm 'appy t' meet ya too, Inktail." Rex gave a deep chuckle before listening to him more.
"A fisher beast you say? Well I think I mighta seen you once or twice 'round these parts. I don't see many fishers 'round anymore. Yer a relaxed beast I can tell." Rex continued on. "Actually both of ya are pretty calm beasts, I'm glad I bumped into yer little camp down 'ere in Camp Willow." Rex noticed they were still young ones; probably in their very early twenties, as he thought. Rex recently turned thirty three, and he felt that the new generation of adults coming up were becoming more adventurous than the last. It gave him fond memories of his travels five years back. Hanging out with your close friends by the camp, enjoying the prime of your life. He saw that in these two.

Jellal realized he never gave Inktail his answer from before and mentally slapped himself for not doing so. He completely forgot and knew a little thing like this can lead up to friction later on. He looked at Inktail with a apologizing smile. "I forgive you Inktail. Just...a little warning next time alright?" Jellal says in a calm tone.
Jellal could tell Rex was in his thirties, and could also tell he knew their ages as well. Having taken a few lessons from Garrus, he knew a thing or two about body language. This has helped considerably when he thought it wouldn't. "What brings you here to Camp Willow Rex?" Jellal asks politely, knowing its best to not being rude.

Inktail grinned in a pleasant way as he nodded at Rex. Now seriously pondering if he had seen him or not, hmm maybe he's just imagining a resemblance. With a stretch he chuckles and responds to Rex
"Maybe we did meet up, if only in passing, I've seen many beasts pass by without really getting ta chat. Most of the time if it's a goodbeast I try to stay out o' sight, I've nothing to hide it's just that weasels don't have the best of reputations now do we." The laugh he lets out does not seem to be forced though, he's got no ill-will over that detail, with what he knows he's actually glad of it in a way.
As Jellal speaks to him he turns, hearing his friend accept the apology and forgive him he smiles widely, well more so, and does not hesitate in his response.
"Sure thing mate, I suppose we can consider ye warned fer when we decide ta leave then eh?" With a wink he shows he means no harm from the light tease. Hearing Jellal's question his attention shifts looking back to Rex, seems silly to ask an otter why they've come to a holt, but you never know.

"Well Jellal, I figured there might be some beasts down 'ere. Just was curious t' see who. Glad t' 'ave run into you two. This place isn't as crowded as it used t' be. Nice t' talk t' others from time t' time. Can't be sittin' at 'ome waitin' fer a project t' come 'bout all alone all th' time ya know." He said with a wink. "Gits borin'."
Rex turned his head over to Inktail. Letting out a deep chuckle. "Aye, that's true matey. Weasels aren't too welcome 'round 'ere. Been 'avin attacks an' wars over th' years an' either the leader 'as been a big ol' wicked Rat, a blood thirsty Weasel, an evil Stoat; you name it! Pure madness I say. I know they have well mannered and pleasant beasts such as yerselves in their families. Not sure why they'd want t' take a path of evil when there's so much more t' offer down th' other." He let out a big sigh and stretched out his massive limbs a bit.
"I don't know 'bout you two, but my stomach feels like it's been through a seven season famine. 'Ow 'bout I make some soup, my treat."

Jellal kinda understood what Rex meant by that. It would be quite boring waiting to do something. He felt that way a little once when he was still home.....with friends he could call family. He felt sad again about leaving his home. The friendly faces, good food, and funny stories.
When he heard Rex offer to make some soup, his stomach rumbled slightly. Some food wouldn't be too bad, especially if its his treat. "Sure Rex, some soup would be good. You make good soup I take it?" Jellal asks Rex while turning to look at him.

Inktail nods at the mention of soup, smiling happily as his own stomach lets out a light growl as if to agree for him.
"I 'ope that yer meaning some good 'otroot soup then, I've been missing the taste o' that stuff."
Thinking long about what Rex said about those who had started wars, and the leaders. Inktail's smile faded a little, frowning at the thought of how close he had come to being that sort of weasel. He shakes his head as if to clear those thoughts from it.
"You forgot the ferocious ferrets. Bah that ain't importent, I'm not them and they sure as heck aren't me."

"After livin' on my own fer so long I can make anythin' just 'bout halfway decent. Yer gonna enjoy it Jellal!" Rex said with an excited tone of voice. He got up and asked one of the Otters of the holt for a small cauldron and the ingredients.
After coming back to the two, he heard Inktail speak out. "Aye matey, you bet yer tail it's gonna be some good 'otroot." The large Otter hoisted up the heavy cast iron cauldron, dunked it in the crisp clean waters, then set it up so that it was hanging over the campfire. "Ferocious ferrets you say? I tangled with one o' them before. Mean one 'e was. I choked 'im til 'is face turned a 'ealthy shade o' purple." He spoke in a joking manner. "But that's what counts, as long as yer you."
He waited for the water to boil a bit before adding in the ingredients. He put shrimp, bulrush, leek, onion, lots of garlic, and horseradish into the cauldron and stirred it with a large wooden ladle. After a few more minutes he added four pawfuls of hotroot to the concoction. He continued to stir the soup until the ingredients cooked together thoroughly with the boiling water. Rex gave it a small taste test and puckered his lips with delight. "Ohh that's some good soup. Just 'bout t' be done mates."

Jellal could smell the soup cooking, he liked it. The smell brought back memories of the good food he had back home. He smiled slightly from it. "It certainly smells good. Hope it tastes as good as well." Jellal says waiting eagerly.
He soon sat on a log that was still near the fire. He wanted a better seat to enjoy this soup Rex was making. Though...he didn't recognize what spice he added in last. But he was sure it couldn't be too bad. As long as it isn't too spicy, he was golden.

Grinning ear to ear as he saw all the ingredients being added in, Inktail took an appreciative sniff of it as he got three bowls out. Nodding his approval of the brewing soup.
"Smells like it'll be somethin' ta remember. Been to long sine the last time I had some good 'otroot."
Inktail smiles even wider, if possible, as he gets up putting one down for Rex and holding out the two others, waiting for them to be filled so he could bring them back, one for himself and one for Jellal.
"Tuck in mate, it'll curl yer whiskers." as he passes the bowl to Jellal, spoons included of course.

"It will be great! I think you'll really like this, Jellal" Rex said, giving the soup one final stir. "It's ready." The muscular warrior turned his head to Inktail and smiled. "This 'ear is the stuff, it should not dissapoint. I learned this recipe from th' old skipper when I was younger an' travelin' a lot more."
He ladled the soup and poured the chunky goodness into each bowl that was gathered. "What Inktail said, Jellal, it will definitely curl those whiskers of yers. It should 'ave a nice balance of spices an' flavor. Becareful though, might want t' blow on it before you sip it. Still piping 'ot. Don't wanna burn yer tongue off cause o' th' boilin' broth." Rex said before taking his own advice and sipping on the chunky soup.

Jellal took the advice Rex gave and blew on it a little. Jellal could tell it also looked good as well. Though, he figured caution would be wasted on this, and thought Rex was joking that it would, curl his whiskers. He doubted a soup could do that, even if it was that spicy.
He then took a sip of the soup and liked it instantly. He was right, he balanced the spice and flavor just right. It was indeed good and he took a bigger sip. It was very, very.....why is my mouth burning? He soon felt the famous hotroot go to work. He fanned his mouth with his paw. "What-why is my mouth so hot?" He says with a worried tone while still fanning his mouth.

Inktail blows carefully on his soup, no need to burn his tongue or spill any of it, taking another deep sniff of the aroma. Sipping up a spoonful he took a deep breathe as he let the small amount sit, savoring the taste. Taking another spoonful, some shrimp added this time, he continues to dig into the famous dish.
"Aye, yer right about it being th' good stuff Rex, I 'aven't tasted any this good in at least a season, mind ya 's been at least a season since the last time I had some o' the stuff."
He turns to Jellal at the sound of somebeast fanning himself and chuckled a little at the question.
"Haharr! That'd be the 'Otroot in it, mind you Rex didn' put much in, 's gotta be 'otter fer an Otter if'n I remember 'ow they said it when I first tried it."

"See, I told ya it was good, Jellal! Oh.. my." Rex stifled a laugh at his new friends antics. He held back as much as possible.
"Yup! When I was 'bout yer ages beginnin' my travels as a new carpenter, first beast I talked t' was good ol' Skip. 'E gave me th' recipe an' I was off! I've been eatin' it every day since. Never git tired of th' stuff." Rex saw Jellal's facial expressions change to a more worried look and then he heard Inktail speak to the poor creature.
"Heeheehee, that's right! Mind you, I usually put in five or six pawfuls 'cus it taste better t' me that way! The spicier th' better."

Jellal was now contemplating whether to drink from the river to cool his mouth or not. He never got the chance to decided when he accidently tripped as he got up. He landed face first into his soup and took mouthfuls of the soup. He took off running and jumped into the river. He didn't care about his fear as long as the burning of his mouth stopped burning!
He was underwater and took mouthfuls of water before surfacing for air. He breathed deeply and was panting. He slowly got himself onto land. "Never....again." He says just before reaching and plopping facefirst next to Inktail. He laid there for a moment before getting up and got into a sitting position.

Inktail nodded in approval of Rex's statements, trying not to laugh too hard at Jellal's wild fanning.
"I never actually met th' Skipper meself, well seen him course, ya need to ta get in 'ere. Never really got ta speak with 'im. Heh I'll need ta ask ye for that recipe, I love 'otroot soup, just never got ta learn ta make it meself."
At this point Inktail turns in time to see Jellal try, and fail to get up, fall face-first into the soup. He starts to laugh, just a little, then the rat does something crazy. Inktail stops laughing as his pal gets up, watching the rat run to the water he's puzzled, then, as he sees Jellal jump in he shouts.
Once Jellal is back on land Inktail realizes that he got to his feet at some point, taking a seat as his friend also does so the weasel looks at Jellal with a slightly concerned and alarmed expression on his face.
"You, okay?"
