Physical Appearance:
Vodnik is a white falcon about 2.3 pounds, 52 centimeters in length from the tip of his tail-feathers to his beak (which is a light, pallid grey darkening into a black cusp). His wingspan is about 128 centimeters, primary and secondary flight wings tipped with ebony. Flecks of dark brown show on his crown, beginning of his beak (his nose) lined with a light, pale yellow. Vodnik also has a pale yellow eye ring around both brown eyes, really faint and outlining his dark gaze. The flecking continues from his crown, down his nape, and spreads out along both wings, his back, and his tail-feathers. The spots grow larger along his back and wings, diamond shaped and a very dark brown, seemingly black.

He is a slim creature, plumage thick and white due to the importance of camouflage in his birth-land. Vodnik has kind, chocolate eyes, usually scrutinizing whoever he meets with a cold squint. He usually travels by air, careful not to alert many with his strikingly bright feathers. Sometimes he rolls in mud to help dull down his natural, pale sheen. Although camouflage is hard, Vodnik enjoys the dense canopies of Mossflower Wood.

Possessions:
Battle Claws -- Vodnik has a specially made set of metal claws, hollow so he may fit his own inside. These are a method of defense and offense, and are secured by a very strong piece of cloth that could not be simply snipped by a weapon. He uses them to deflect an attack, and to administer one with the deadly barbs. Sometimes, he will fill the tips with venom.

Personality:
Vodnik is a very reserved creature, though when befriended he is very silly and humorous; a great pleasure to be around. Vodnik is a very quiet soul, keeping to himself or hovering close to those he really knows and trusts. He is a secretive and sly beast, most of the times blunt, and not usually in a kind manor. This beast is far from prejudiced against certain creatures, finding himself helping vermin at times, though never hurting innocents. Vodnik is a unique fellow with an heir of confidence and intelligence about him, despite how stupid creatures think birds are.

Vodnik is easily angered, his temper being rather thin. He acts imperial, like a king of the sky, and perhaps he has the right. Few have challenged him, and although the ones that have challenged him failed, the white falcon still has the scars to prove the battles. This bird randomly shows, usually in the least expected times. Not all attacks are successful in the first assail, but he is no coward and willingly goes back for more claws-piercing-fur action. This beast is a very impulsive bird, responding to his gut feeling foolishly sometimes, putting himself in danger. You could say he is courageous, but not always in a good way. Vodnik is an incredible creature, though is definitely easily angered. It takes a lot to offend him, and this white feathered beast usually throws back a witty retort to comments intended to hurt.

History:
Vodnik was hatched in the north, his mother and father raising him as a good, social beast. He never liked being in crowded areas, always finding himself isolated from large groups at family celebrations. When he got old enough, he decided to wander around the northern territories, making a few friends along the way including the Jaunus hares and the Rudnick sea otters. He loved to hang out with Madiline and Webster on free time, accompanying Web on sea voyages or fishing trips. Of course, otters could swim, but Webster used every excuse to sail his ship out on open sea. He was a queer fellow at times, but an overall joy to be around; that is why our falcon here loved to hang out. (Go learn more about Web in Madiline PCSJ's biography!)

Vodnik constantly visited Maddie's family, staying for dinner at times and sticking with the hare-maid when she wished to travel into the forests or mountains to explore. He acted as her guardian most of the times, treating her as a great friend. When they broke the news, telling the Gyrfalcon that they would be moving to Redwall, Vodnik was saddened, but he accepted that this was their wish. The falcon decided that Webster's ship would be too crowded, so he would travel by air to just north of Salamandastron to avoid problems with the hare's. There, Vodnik waited for several days after the deadline they were to arrive. It was when he saw Webster's body wash up on shore that he realized the sad truth; the Jaunus hares must be dead along with him. (Although Madiline was found by the Long Patrol and housed until her footpaw was healed. After she was fit enough to start training, Maddie joined the Long Patrol, without her faithful friend knowing she was alive.) Vodnik tried to drag the otter's body as close to the Rudnick otter's abode as he could, dragging the sorry carcass of his friend several yards from the cave and scrambling the last few bits to alert the family and to offer them the most sympathetic condolences.

After that, Vodnik stayed rather neutral, becoming a bit of a hermit for the next few years and helping innocents at random from pesky vermin. This bird sometimes wishes he never grew attached to those beasts, but cherishes the good moments that he had with them. Despite his subtitle, Vodnik is a rather congenial beast, kind to good, but truly savage to evil.
