Name: Rune Blazetail Gender: Male Age: 19? somewhere close to there, he's not sure of his exact age Species: Grey Squirrel Occupation: Rune is a Wanderer.
Physical Appearance: Rune is a bit tall for the average squirrel. His dark grey fur lets him blend in well with the shadows both in the trees and on the ground through his travels. He has tufts of red fur through his tail, giving him the name Blazetail. He wears a dark green tunic, belted with a brown worn leather belt. Through this belt he keeps a long knife tucked away from thieving hands, and over his shoulder he carries his sword. He has light silver scars crisscrossing his forearms, and one light silver mark stretching down from in between his ears to the tip of his nose. His eyes are dark dusty blue, but often seem black because of the lighting he chooses to travel by (shade).
Possessions: Rune carries his blades with him at all times, and knows how to use them well. The sword is fairly unadorned aside from the stone set into the pommel that glints a very dark red in the right light. His longknife is sharp and the hilt is made of a silver colored metal twisted into a hilt that is bound with black leather like the sword. Neither weapon stands out when compared to the general arms of someone in a soldier's position. He also carries a knapsack which he uses to collect the food that he finds along the way. The knapsack also carries healing supplies and a darker green tunic and nicer looking belt.
Aside from these, he has the tunic he normally wears, the worn belt, and whatever he happened to pick up because it caught his fancy.
Personality: Rune is a loner, not by nature, but because that is how he was trained by life experience to be. He survives alone because he thinks that is the only way to protect those around him. (see history for why).
He has a big heart, and loves telling stories and making things to entertain the young ones. He has a great desire to protect those around him, hence his possessiveness of his weapons and loner ways. In his mind, if he fails, the only one who gets hurt is him. If he brings others with him, they could get hurt as well. He also hates seeing anyone, even his enemies, get hurt, and has been known to spend healing resources on an enemy who has just tried to kill him.
Basicly once you crack through his loner shield that he puts up to protect those around him, he's a very warm person to be around, and a very fun traveling companion. And breaking through said shield isn't hard. He wants it broken even if he denies it.
Strengths: He's a really good swordsman if he's not distracted. He has a really kind, big heart and will go without to care for those around him. He's seen pain, and understands what it can do to a person.
Weaknesses: He's afraid to connect to others emotionally. He's incredibly stubborn. Don't let him lead your group. His kindness and protectiveness can be a double edged sword. It distracts him if he is fighting to protect someone because he is afraid to fail. He is terrified of being responsible for someone's death. Even an enemy's.
History:
Rune was born in the northern parts of Mossflower where times get rather thin. It was during one of those times when slavers from one of the nearby vermin tribes decided to attack his small village. They took almost all of the residents prisoner, and those that they didn't take, they killed. Rune's father was among the dead. As Rune grew up, one of the rats who served the clan leader realized that the young squirrel had a wiry strength that ran through his body. The rat, named Blacktooth, decided that Rune might be a good addition to the clan's fighters, and in secret, trained the young squirrel to fight. Rune excelled at fighting, but when he put his new skills to use, his family, especially his little sister, were punished very harshly. Being as stubborn as he was, it took a while for him to learn the association between his actions and the pain he brought to his family. Blacktooth looked over the new slaves with a scornful eye and a curled lip. He had hoped that this new bunch of woodlanders would include a young, angry, impressionable woodlander that he could manipulate to become someone who would kill for him. His own little pet troublemaker. He had reasons for this, foremost which was stirring up enough dissention in the clan to justify a rat of his low rank to challenge the chieftain. If enough of his rivals could be gotten rid of, it would make his plans to become chieftain over the clans in the reagion that much easier. His eyes lighted on a sullen faced young dark grey squirrel. The young one was just starting to come into young adult hood and was just at the right age for the first stage of Blacktooth's plan. Somehow he managed to get possession of the young squirrel but not his mother or younger sister. This pleased him and he was even more surprised to find that Rune, the young squirrel, was more than eager to learn what the rat hoped he would learn.
Seasons changed as Rune grew, and as he grew so did his independence. He started using what Blacktooth was teaching him on other members of the clan who he deemed were being merciless. This earned him, and when that didn't prove effective his family harsh beatings. Blacktooth's plan to rise to power would have worked well if the one he chose did not have such a strong warrior's spirit, even if he denies it.
Once he made the connection, he refused to fight for Blacktooth anymore. Things esclated sharply after that and came to a head when some passing otters took it apon themselves to free the captives. Rune fought with them, supprising the seasoned warriors with his skill. After his family was free, he took them deeper into Mossflower to find somewhere where they wouldn't be harmed again. A few seasons went by, but the restlessness that had always been in Rune started to make him unhappy with his life, hidden away from the world with his mother and sister. Not long after that he took up wandering. After a while of just wandering through the forest he ran across a Brother from Redwall. He could tell from what the mouse was wearing. The poor fellow had twisted his paw badly and was resting it in the cool water of a small stream. Rune offered to help, and through that action made friends with the unfortunate Redwall resident. They traveled together for a while, and those travels gave Rune his love for healing. He was ashamed of his past and skill with a blade, and so he was thrilled to learn how to heal the wounds he had created. This began to heal the hole inside him created by his years as a slave. He and his friend parted ways, and he aquired a sword from some vermin who were unlucky enough to insist on attacking the young wiry squirrel. Eventually this sword broke, and Rune was driven to find a swordsmith to fix it. Luckily for him, he did, and the mole (who he could barely understand) was happy enough to make a blade for a fellow woodlander. That was the most recent happening in his life, and he is still wandering, his warrior's spirit just beginning to surface in an honorable way.
Relationships: Mother: Pinerose, lives in a hidden hut in a tree in Mossflower Sister: Breezesong, lives in a hidden hut in a tree in Mossflower with her mother Friend: (Unnamed as of yet incase someone wants to play him), lives in Redwall, is interested in healing.
Other: Rune's scars came about as follows: The ones on his forepaws are from blocking various blades in his travels when he has not had a blade or staff in hand. The one down the middle of his face is from Blacktooth from the last fight the two of them had, though Rune will never admit it.

Rune, I've looked over the character bio, and I don't see any problems. Perhaps you could explain more why Blacktooth trained a squirrel to fight? Other than that, it looks fine. I'll let Tracy know. -Rau
