Name: Rook "Ironpaw" Leporidae
Gender: Male
Age: 20
Species: Hare
Occupation: Private/Sentry in the Long Patrol
Physical Appearance:
A mountain hare buck, Rook has inherited his father's dusty brown pelt, which is heavily flecked in white marks; his throat and chest are solid white. The hare's face is highlighted by his kind grey eyes, while his ears are both tipped in white. His constant training has left him with with a healthy, fit figure.
During his daily duties, Rook typically wears a light brown tunic with a black eelskin belt and cloak, a combination he finds perfect for the lonely sentry duty at the base of the mountain. On patrols, he uses a standard green tunic. In an effort to forestall injury, he often utilizes handwraps; both to protect his hands when he handles his blade, and for practicality when he need to climb the rough, abrasive outcrops of rock on the outskirts of the mountain.
In the cooler months, he dress much more warmly, utilizing a thicker tunic, cloak, and scarf.
Possessions:
Of his few possessions, Rook's hand and half sword is easily his most valuable, as it was a gift from his father. The blade itself is clean in design with a white whalebone handle and a dark blue hiltwrap. When on duty, he keeps the blade diagonally across his back for ease of movement.
Rook's other possessions include several sets of green and brown tunics, an eelskin belt, and a journal that he uses frequently.
Personality:
Rook is a friendly creature, though his often quiet manner has left him overshadowed by some of his more outspoken comrades. He believes in the tradition of defending the helpless and he remains zealously loyal to the Badgerlord. He is notably cold to any hare he sees bullying a comrade.
In his early youth, he learned the value of respecting his superiors, and as such, he often avoids the worst of their attention. On the other hand, he is fairly irritated that his superiors haven't given opportunities with the patrol. This has led him to wonder if being unnoticed is more of a curse than a blessing. With his parents constantly watching, he's been itching for the chance to do something, anything, to prove his worth to them.
The hare has bitter hatred for Vermin, particularly corsairs. As a youth, he once saw a few flashes on the horizon in the night. The next morning, the burnt wreckage of an otter trading ship had washed up, with many of the bodies cruelly rent. While a few survivors were to be had, most didn't last the next morning. This scene burned into his mind as a leveret, and he aims to pay corsairs in general back for that. He doesn't enjoy killing, but he is more than happy to prevent others from being preyed upon.
In combat, Rook is quite capable of strategic plotting, but he prefers a more hands on, by the moment approach to combat. In the two times he's been in a skirmish, he's preferred to alternate between powerful kicks and a two-handed blade to stay alive.
In his off time, Rook indulges in a variety of hobbies. His favorite by far is spending time in the sizable Salamandastron Library, learning all that he can about the history of the Patrol. His other favorite activities include experimenting with cooking, and collecting agates on the beach. He also spends time with the resident sword experts, trying to hone his skills with a blade.
Strengths:
-Adept Swordsman
-Patient
-Practical
-Sharp senses
Weaknesses:
- Leading others
- Inability to swim
- Speed
History:
Born to a Northern Hare and a Salamandastron local, Rook was raised in the relative safety of the mountain. Even so, he was often handed over to others for care taking, as his parents were still active members of the Long Patrol.
As a leveret, Rook's life was fairly uneventful. However, his early interactions with his fellow hares didn't go so well, as he was constantly mocked for being the son of an outsider. While he stood his ground, he began to withdraw into himself. It was during this time that he built up a bitter resentment against abusive creatures.
By the time he had reached his 17th year, his life was on track, and with his parent's approval, he joined the Patrol. Ever since, Rook has often found himself with some of the less desirable positions, such as the role of sentry. Desiring to prove himself once more, he's applied to get rotated back onto patrol, which he expects to hear back about shortly.
