Name: Veridya Darzil Gender:Female Age: 25 Years Old Species: Common Lizard Occupation: Bosun & Fortune Hunter
Physical Appearance: In terms of body-type, Vi is everything you'd expect of an average female lizard. Narrow of body and built for speed, she is a little on the short side in comparison with other creatures, somewhere between mouse-height and stoat-height, with a petite structure that would make her look rather delicate if she wasn't armed to the teeth. She is primarily emerald in hue, a brown dorsal-stripe that goes from the top of her head to the base of her tail, a lighter green underbelly, white claws and equally white teeth, Vi practicing surprisingly good hygiene despite being considered one of those 'vermin creatures' by those bearing fur.
Because her tail is detachable (though not reattachable), it is occasionally a different color than the rest of her body, sometimes light green, sometimes black, with the occasional gray or brown. Being a bit vain and rather fond of color-coordination, Vi does her best to not have to resort to such a defense mechanism if she can help it. Nothing ruins an outfit better than having to get rid of a body-part and grow a new one in a color you hadn't planned for.
Vi's scales are quite soft, despite how hard and 'armor-like' they may appear, though her claws are still as sharp as her teeth. Vi's eyes are golden, which are a nice contrast with the vibrant green, with narrow, diamond-shaped pupils. Being a lizard, she has an excellent sense of smell and even better eyesight, though she is farsighted and has difficulty reading things right under her nose. Speaking of nose - it's not really a nose, per-say, it's more like two parallel, diagonal slits to signify nostrils at the front of her face.
A nasty run-in with a kestrel have left three long scars and one puncture-wound on the inside of her arm, and a much longer-lasting fear of birds.
::Clothing::
Top: A burgundy chemise with tied quarter-sleeves, a brown ordinary leather bodice.
Bottom: www.leatherlore.com/product/armor/women/Dsc15092.jpg (imagine this brown) She is wearing burgundy pants that taper down to the ankles underneath the scaled skirt.

Possessions: A medallion from the Green Isle bearing the Crest of the House of Glasveil. A crossbow, dart-gun, and assorted types of darts. A coin pouch. A large, deep cypress wood trunk that holds all of her valuables.
Because Vi is such a lover of gemstones and jewelry and anything shiny, she can frequently be heard for the sheer number of tail-rings and other baubles she has somewhere on her person, though when it's time for the bracers to come out and for stealth to be of importance, into the trunk they go.
Personality:
Despite her slight stature, Viridya is a surprisingly strong force to be reckoned with. While not necessarily strong in the physical sense, her personality appears forthright, with an underlying level of toughness that hint at a hard beginning or hardships that have been already triumphed over. She can be quite a lot of things, when it's required of her, but never can she be called a coward; Viridya is hardworking and does not scare easily, nor does she charge in blindly or just 'hope' things work out the way she plans them to. Very intellectual, it is preference in most situations that she choose the route most likely to get her out alive, and usually with a few trinkets and baubles in hand, as her one true love is, and forever will be, treasure.
It's almost crippling, really, just how much she lusts for jewels that glitter and wink at her, gold so shiny she can see her reflection, and rare metals any merchant would cut off his own foot for. Some what of a connoisseur of precious gemstones and other items of value, Viridya has an eye for quality, something she applies to animals as well as artifacts.
Though her main priority is always the acquisition of wealth, Viridya does not dive headfirst into her latest fortune-acquiring escapade, but spends a great deal of time scoping out her target, gathering knowledge and planning a proper escape route, should things go sour. Considering her obsessive love of treasure, it is literally only the prospect of dying a painful, awful death that would make her turn her back on her own plans. Though primarily looking out for her hide only, Viridya is not quite as 'army of one' as she frequently leads you to believe; this loner lifestyle is the result of past tragedies rather than any personal choice of hers, Viridya coming to the conclusion that it is better to work alone - less heartbreak that way, and even less of a chance of screwing things up.
Considering all of the time and effort she invests into things, Viridya rarely abandons a project or ambition, but can become downright seething, "Spitting mad" if some outside force or (may the fates be kind) some poor creature interferes or wrecks her entire plan. With quite a nasty temper when aroused, Viridya, though small, can present a surprisingly intimidating side of herself that has, more than once, given her the element of surprise in an otherwise unpleasant scenario. Those who have wronged her or gotten in her way should be grateful Viridya does not actually have anything venomous - teeth, claws, skin, all ordinary lizard characteristics - only her tongue in the verbal sense.
Reluctant to work with others, Viridya is not used to incorporating the feelings or positions of others into her plans and lifestyle, and can step on quite a few toes with her seemingly abrasive, neglectful behavior first off. Once she adjusts, however, and if she can tolerate you, there's a chance you'll get along famously.
If you are getting on her nerves, however, she will let you know.
Neither shy nor indecisive, Viridya has a strong spirit, capable of extreme patience for a plan but with a low tolerance of stupidity. Prone to getting things right the first time, Viridya has what's called 'beginners luck' which can give her somewhat of a superior mindset, Viridya likely to think of you as some kind of half-wit if you fail to do something right the first time. Judging the world by her standards, she has days where she pictures it an awful, boring, ugly place full of malice and coldness and stupidity, and then there are days when her spirits are high and the whole world is a gemstone, beauty as far as the eye can see, the flaws all part of the design.
There is one last important thing about Viridya that could prove to be another obstacle down the road; Viridya is terrified of birds. Perhaps it's instinctual, or perhaps it's common sense, but this lizard fortune-hunter almost has a phobia of those lords of the sky, and depending on the bird, may even back completely out of a job in an effort to save her own skin. Though I wouldn't call her disloyal or flighty, but if the sudden eagle or kite token piece is added to the board, Viridya will be looking for a quick exit. A traumatic experience with an osprey as a child has left more than the scars on her arm.
Strengths: Highly Dextrous Excellent Swimmer Eye for detail/quality Excellent Marksman Beginners' Luck Rises to the Occasion
Weaknesses: Physical--
- Soft Skin. Despite it's tough-looking, almost dragonish exterior, it is really quite easily pierced.
- Temperature Sensitive – very much a slave to the temperatures of the environment, cold climates are awful for Veridya, and she will even go into hibernation if it gets cold enough.
- Far-sighted. She will need reading glasses or to hold the paper very far from her face if she were to honestly make out what it says.
- Difficulty with Close-Range Combat.
- Delicate sense of smell.
Emotional --
- Phobia of Birds of Prey
- Abrasive at times, and unwilling to work with others.
- Difficulty forgiving
- Looks out exclusively for herself
- Will not talk about her past, emotionally closed off
- Difficult to impress
- Deals with her problems by not talking about them, would prefer to chew off her own tail than discuss what's bothering her.
- Obsessed with treasure
History:
"Veridya Darzil" is a name that was fashioned later in life, not one she was born with. This unusually colored lizard was born in the Green Isle, the only daughter and middle offspring of Lord Scath and Lady Rua of the House of Glasveil. Her birthname was Lady Rosuaine of Glasveil, and she had two brothers before her (Prince Dearg, and Prince Liath) and one younger brother after, Prince Dath. With her father as the ruling lord of Glasveil (Green Veil), Rosuaine's life was more or less the life of a spoiled princess who roughhoused with her brothers, but being the only girl, always got her way. There was one thing that forever unsettled her, even at a young age; it was their white raven her mother kept as a pet. It was old and blind and never said much, but when it did open it's mouth to speak, it was always something prophetic, or somehow eerie and cryptic. Even though it was blind, it still gave her the creeps.
As a youngster, Rosuaine already had an eye for treasure and things of value. Almost hoarding it, she would pick up lost silver buttons and brooches that had fallen off the visiting noblebeasts, and at one point she almost went so far as to pilfer a golden coin right out of the pocket of their financial advisor! It was around 16 years of age that the cushy life of a princess surrounded in wealth and without a care in the world, abruptly shattered around her.
Her irresponsible brothers had driven the family in to debt, and the younger had angered the neighboring tribe of lizards, the Redmaynes, named appropriately so for the splash of red on their dashing neckfrills. Rosuaine had always fancied the oldest of the Redmayne Lord's son, Scallion, but any hopes now of a royal match were dashed assunder by the accidental death of Scallion's younger brother Grevale, at the claws of her younger brother, Dath.
Civil war amongst the lizards broke out, and every member of the House of Glasveil fell, given enough time. By the time Rosuaine was 18, her kingdom had been absorbed into the territory belonging to the Redmaynes, her survival ensured only because Scallion had convinced his father to keep her as Scallion's new bride. Rather than live with the tribe that had slaughtered her family, Rosuaine stole off into the night, leaving her name, her title, and her ravaged kingdom behind her.
~*~
The first thing she did was invent a new name for herself. Veridya, because she liked the way it sounded, and Darzil, simply because it was an anagram of lizard - simple, easy to remember, right? After reinventing herself, Veridya began a life of privateering aboard a ship called the Black Gull; it was a difficult life, but Veridya soon learned that she had a bit of a taste for adventure, and after three years of serving on the Black Gull, Veridya struck out into the world on her own once more, intending to pursue treasure at any cost. While aboard the Black Gull, she had picked up a few techniques, which included how to properly use and load a dart-gun, a crossbow made in the Southern Coast, and how to tie enough knots strong enough to hold back a badger lord.
Having spent much of her pirate life climbing the rigging, Veridya later applied that to her adventures in treasure-hunting, used to climbing up steep surfaces or shimmy down quickly in case she's alerted the guards or any other reasons for fleeing. Having had 3 years of trial and error, success and failure at a life of fortune-hunting, Veridya is once again looking to try her luck aboard the high seas, armed with more skills than ever, her primary objective is and will forever to the acquisition of gemstones, rare metals, and anything shiny that she can get her greedy little claws on.
