Far in the southern sea lie the Southern Isles, west of the landmass where Southsward is. The easternmost of these islands bears no formal name, and is known to all as Cathome, from where all cats originated and from where they came to spread across the world, bringing unknown and unparalleled ferocity and power. In ages long since past, these mighty warriors were the scourge of all, with mighty lords and rulers sailing far from their southern homes to seek of great power and glory, all so that they might emblazon themselves before the Warrior-Who-Is-Evermore, the Sabred God.
The lord Kyarz, house of Felis, who sailed north to wage war and conquer new islands for his name. The house of Fuurst who, driven from their home, took to the sea and sailed north, carving out a mighty kingdom and taking upon the name of Mortspear. The might of the Green-Eyes who's Thousand Eye army was destroyed in battle with other lords, sending them fleeing to start anew and bringing destruction and war to the northern lands. Mighty and noble warriors, one and all, unified in their pursuit of glory and honour.
But these glorious days are far from reality now, buried in long years of the past. Conflicts over honour and power have lead to an extremely feudal state of existence for Cathome. Even the Patriarch, True Sovereign of all Wildcats, could not unify the great houses, for ancient law dictated that any who could defeat the Patriarch in combat was worthy of the honour of rulership. Patriarchs came and went quickly, with the best of houses lasting scarcely more than a few generations. Focused on fighting themselves, their interest in the sea faded away and contact with the outside world died off to barely there. Corsairs and pirates kept wildcat ships from taking to the sea, and soon their navy was rotted and defunct. For several hundred years it was this way, battling each other to a standstill followed by moments of peace where the population swelled until whiskers rubbed and war exploded again.
Into this world came Caje-Rawg, prince and ultimate heir to the throne. Becoming a Patriarch at nineteen, he was a different sort. He had read, studied their history, and envisioned the wildcats rising up again as warriors of the Sabred God to conquer the world and devour all resistors. At the age of twenty, the isle exploded into unprecedented warfare as the Patriarch announced a new decree, calling all lords to be utterly obedient to the Patriarch and his house, and to dare not rise against him lest they suffer the dishonour of treason and all its murderous fruits.
An alliance of no less than thirteen great houses rose against him. Fighting a series of staged battles, he lead them to overconfidence in themselves and retreated to a canyon, feigning a last stand. As the rebels converged on him, he had great pieces of the cliffside around them broken off and tumbled down below, plowing through their ranks and scattering them, before leading his army in a glorious charge, killing the rebels to the last soul. Then, slaughtering the entire houses of the unloyal lords, he razed several of their strongholds and towns, replacing them with fortresses manned by loyal nobles.
Caje-Rawg had secured his dominance for now. Through his lifetime he would face four more rebellions against his authority, and he brutally and mercilessly crushed and burn them all. For war is the wildcats language, and blood the only messaging he knows.
Further changes came to the isle. He reintroduced names of the ancients, trying to bring the Patriarchy out of the grips of savagery. He christened himself as Cajon Alagar, and began pushing for new changes. He abolished the law decreeing slavery based on race, condemning all non-cat subjects to slavery and serfdom. Non-cats were allowed to take up jobs for pay and given freedom to live more independently. Many cats refused to accept this, and those who refused found their lives running out at the tip of a sword in a public square. Executions continued until, grumbling as they did so, the population obeyed.
Lords still fought each other of course, Cajon could not and would not change that But all lords had to swear to put aside all conflict between each other in the case of a common enemy.
Cajon reigned and died, his dream of conquering the world unfulfilled. However he had begun the taming of the isle, paving the way for another Patriarch, one would's reign would change the course of the Patriarchy forever. Thus came about he reign of Phineas Alagar of the Iron Claws
Phineas was abnormal by cat standards, even his father. Due to his fathers policy on increased contact with the neighbouring isle, Phineas had come into contact with many wild and controversial ideas. He was disgusted by the lack of naval power, and strongly desired for their isle to become mighty and powerful once more. However he questioned the idea of taking all the world, thinking it to be a foolish venture. He studied things such as formal politics and diplomacy, aiming to gain himself a silver tongue.
Facing fire and rebellion from more orthodox nobles who considered him weak and sought to remove him, he stood strong, leading an army against the rebels and razing their fortress to the ground. It was here that, for the first time in history, non-cats were used in the army. Squirrels were hired as archers, and from a distance cut down rebel cats in armour like chaff.
Phineas was to grow strong and dominant through the isle, but his measure of fame was not to be truly shown until destiny collided with him in the form of Vara Schvall...
Religion: Monotheistic, worship of the Great Sabred God, a monstrous beast who is he ancestor of all wildcats, and to whom they answer to upon death. Accumulating glory through battle is the highest honour one can pay the Great Sabred God, and it is believed he will duel all who die. Worthy fighters shall receive high praise and enter the place called Glory, while cowards and traitors will be consumed and devoured.
