Name: Haaken Carnesir
Gender: Male
Age: 61
Species: Vole (I think he's the first)
Occupation: Healer, Scholar, and Swords-Master
Physical Appearance:
Haaken is a little vole, only about 3.5' tall (in human feet). He used to be a light brown with a creamy underbelly, but, his fur is graying. He has a thick well groomed mustache (which he is very proud of) and a long beard. Haaken is chubby little fellow, but not so much that he looks "fat." He wears a bright blue tunic with gold trim, not at all the best for running around in the woods. He also has a gold chain around his neck, with a large sapphire set in the middle, and a small pair of gold rimmed crystal glasses.
Possessions
Haaken's main weapon and most prized possession is a a cane made of polished black wood, with a sapphire in the top. When the sapphire is pushed, the top disconnects from the bottom, becoming a hilt, while a blade can be removed from inside the bottom, which acts as a sheath. Other than this, the only thing he carries is a pouch filled with herbs and other medical supplies. He has a house deep in Mossflower made of a hollow tree which he has lived in most of his life. The bottom floor looks like a study, and an entire library of books and scrolls covers the walls. It is also down here that he does all his cooking and has his pantry. A set of steps connects this room to the upper floor, which is his bedroom (and contains quite a few more books!)
Personality: Haaken, despite his scholarly appearance and age, is an energetic little fellow. He is constantly hopping back and forth, rubbing his hands together as he talks. He is always moving, and incredibly smart. He has memorized all the facts he has read, and likes to spew them off at a moments notice. He is kind hearted, and tries to be nice to everyone. However, he can not stand wrongdoings one bit, and reprimands the doers as if they were naughty children. Though hard to anger, when he is angered, he is hard to stop. He also has a strange habit of making up poetry on the go. He does this in even the most awkward situations. He has learned not to judge good or bad by whether the creature is a "vermin" or not. He tries to see the good, and bad, in everybeast.
Strengths:
Haaken is an expert swords-beast. No one he has ever met has been able to best him. He, as mentioned before, he is very smart and has a photographic memory. He is an excellent healer, and very agile (despite his age.)
Weaknesses:
Haaken is not much for heights, and insofar as possible, will stay away from them. Also, he will never use a range weapon, considering them dishonorable. Haaken is afraid of thunder-storms, and will never go out in one. He would much rather be inside, reading a book, during such weather.
History:
Haaken was born and raised in Mossflower, the son of a vole tribe's chief. He was adept at many things, not the least of which were reading and writing. His father taught him to fight, and saw much potential in him. But, his father also knew that he was not skilled enough to train Haaken to that full potential. However, one day, this peaceful life changed dramatically. The tribe was attacked by a horde of vermin, intent on bloodshed. The entire vole tribe was laid low, except Haaken. He put up such a fight, the warlord had him taken alive. When the warlord (a rat) found out that Haaken could read and write, he made him his assistant and scribe. Haaken practice his sword skills every day, using a rusty blade the warlord had given him. After time, Haaken had almost become second in command. The hordebeasts were not at all happy with a vole having such a high position in the horde. They plotted to kill him using the alibi that he had tried to betray the warlord. Three of their best fighters surrounded Haaken while he was practicing with his sword. But, they were no match for Haaken who killed them all. Still, the warlord, after seeing the fighters Haaken killed, believed the treason lie. He ordered the horde to slay Haaken, but he fled before they could get him. For some time after that, he wandered Mossflower, starving and lost. Eventually he was found by an aged mouse scholar who took him into his house. The mouse taught Haaken all he could about knowledge. Though the mouse was no fighter himself, he had several friends who trained Haaken in swordplay. One day however, the mouse new that he was to die soon. He gave Haaken his most prized positions, his house, his books, and his cane. He asked to be buried nearby the house, so he would never be to far away from his beloved books. Haaken did as he asked, and then took residence in the old house. So he has lived for years and years, till he went from being a beast in his prime seasons, to an old creature who still acted like he was. The only other thing it seem important to mentions is his connection to Alastor Eriel. On one of his evening walks, he found the stoat lying near death in the woods. He took Alastor home and treated him, nursing him back to health. He intended to take Alastor in as an apprentice, much as the mouse had done for him. He tried to teach Alastor all he could, but, while the stoat became as good with a blade as Haaken himself, he could not focus on knowledge and study. Haaken realized that revenge was the only thing on Alastor's mind, and let him go on, with everything he had been able to teach him. Alastor promised to come back once he had his revenge, hoping to have a less clouded mind.
Relationships:
Alastor-The stoat is a friend of Haaken's, and is always grateful for what Haaken did for him. He also looks up to Haaken as a mentor.
Other
The one thing Haaken can not stand in the least is someone touching one of his books with dirty paws. If this happens, he will not compromise.
