Absolute Mayhem, Yes?

It has occurred to me that pretty much every member on this site has a thief character of some sort. Now, it is highly unlikely that all of them would attempt to steal the same thing at the same time at the same place.

However, it was be unbearably boring if they didn't. So, what I'm proposing is we take every willing thief character and put them in one place, where they will all try to steal something important. Now, this will have to be out of the present order of threads, so we could write it as a future thread, write it as a flashback, or write it as a sort of meta-roleplay (i.e, it doesn't affect the ongoing plots -- it's just for fun). I personally would like to try a mix of the second and third options; outside the roleplay, the characters are arguing over who is the best thief, citing this incident when they stole some valuable object, but it turns out they were all there that day (or night), trying to steal the same thing -- only one character ended up with it, of course.

Anyway, there are two obvious settings we should consider first. Salamandastron and Redwall Abbey. Salamandastron has a Badger Lord who has all sorts of valuable things up in his forge and/or chambers. There's gotta be something there. As for Redwall, you can have your pick of Martin's sword/shield, the tapestry of Martin, or a really shiny thing. Whatever.

I think Braythe is an ideal target. Reckless, hotheaded, inexperienced, not terrifically strategic, hates being cooped up in a mountain that just happens to be filled with expensive things -- just how I like my marks. ;D


Well, I don't want to get into too many details before we actually decide if, what, where, and from whom we're stealing. So, uh, let me know your thoughts!

I agree with the Salamandastron idea for the setting. We need to revive that place. And, oh, it would just put the biggest thorn in Braythe's side if we did!
My best thief character is my rabbit, Soladeo Gloria. She's a traveller, so naturally she would have gone to Sali at some point. She would have at least attempted to take something. Whether or not she got away with it is up to y'all. I don't want my character to be the center of attention. (Especially when y'all seem to focus on Nik so much!)
I bet Sola would, when caught, pretend she was a new recruit who got lost (since rabbits look similar to hares, she would really have little trouble passing herself off as one of the Long Patrol). And then she would leave the mountain in a disgruntled huff at not getting her prize.
That's just my idea for my own character. Who else wants to join? This'll be a great thread!

xD My best thief character is Felix Ferroux, my cowardly feline! His wife must've sent him to Salamandastron because she thinks there's good stuff there... Haha, either way he's going there somehow!

poor Braythe. Well no, not poor Braythe. Woe is to the poor fool who Braythe catches thieving from him.
Nothing like a hot-headed, highly territorial badger to kick-start a fun plot.

Nice. ^^ Glad to hear this idea might work. I suspect Promatera might want to join with Bon Vaygan, so we'll not count everybody out just yet. But yeah, we have Tobias, Jaroah, Felix, and Sola so far. That gives us two thieves and two grifters.

A more detailed explanation of my suggestion:
Finally free of the confines of the LoRA roleplay, our thief-characters can kick back and relax. But a careless remark is tossed into the air, igniting an argument over who is really the best thief. The one non-thief (I haven't decided who) in the room quiets them all down, deciding to let thieves provide their own sides of the story. Non-thief will decide who really is the best thief. One by one, the thieves recount the events of that night from their respective points of view, but at the end of each story, the Shiny eludes the thief's grasp. Who actually ended up with the Shiny is something we should discuss here.

So, we'll probably have to plan ahead to get this to work. I'm working on the mousethieves' scheme, and apparently Sola's gonna try to pose as a Long Patrol hare. But does anyone have any real specific ideas in mind? 'Cause we're gonna want to connect the stories together, kinda let the characters give their impressions of each other from that night, 'cause that would be funny. XD Also, what do we want to steal? I'm thinking the Weasel Bopper's gonna prove a touch too heavy.

So it's somewhat of a Roleplay within a Role Play? Each thief gets to recount what happened the night they all tried to steal the Shiny? (I vote for Braythe's sword, or maybe even the new weapon he's working on, a thunderbolt made of a strange new metal. The thunderbolt is lighter than the sword.)

Felix, under the cover of darkness, is probably going to go with a grappling hook/scale the side of Salamandastron idea, considering the Badger Lord's secret chamber is at the top of the mountain. Despite Felix being the first one to reach it, I think I'm going to have him get stuck, or unable to find a way inside the mountain, which will give someone else the chance to get the Shiny first. He'll probably steal it from the next thief/thieves, only to have it taken from him by someone else? (Sola maybe? Or Bon Vaygan?)


xD At the end it would be funny if Braythe showed up, snatched back his Shiny thing and stormed back to Salamandasatron.

Anyway, yeah, that's basically it. The thread will alternate between real-time and flashback, pretty much. (We could go for the thunderbolt thingy, but we might as well be as ambitious as possible, right? XD Whichever's more valuable, I say.)

If Felix gets stuck in the secret chamber, Sola or one of my thieves could end up unintentionally letting him out, since, y'know, the words "secret chamber" are like catnip to thieves -- they simply must open that door. And yeah, it would be great if he could steal it from someone else (that is pretty much the whole idea behind the plot XD), but, I should mention, nobeast can know how the Shiny left his/her possession. Otherwise they would already know each other, and/or the plot wouldn't have the surprising ending it should. Y'know, "Who ended up with the Shiny?" I'm thinking --maybe-- whoever ended up with the Shiny could be a character who isn't even a thief. Like, the least likely character for the job ever. Just an idea, though.

And Fawn. Best ending ever. XD Let's do it.

Oh yes, the thunderbolt, considering it's of a shiny/special metal, and he JUST forged it, it would be more valuable to him. xD Oh he'll be out for blood when his brand new baby's gone missing.
If the goodbeasts back at the Abbey hear a distant roar -- no worries, just Braythe having a meltdown.

I like that twist, how they don't know who took it or when it was stolen from their possession... I know Felix tends to carry a huge, fur-lined haversack around with him, and he puts the thunderbolt in his bag, only the thing is so sharp, it tears a hole in the bottom of his bag -- and falls out when he's either 1) running from the Long Patrol or 2) climbing down the mountain.

xD LOL, I can just see Sola sitting on the ground in front of the mountain, pausing after having just completed some horrible marching exercises, and THUNK, the thunderbolt lands right at her feet.

XD All right, thunderbolt it is. And we should totally include that distant-roar-at-the-abbey scene. ;D

And I can just see Jaroah noticing Felix trying to run away with the thunderbolt, stealing the bag, only to find it has a hole in it. XD I'll think of something as soon as I know my thieves' plan. Tobias is picky.

Funny you should mention that idea with Sola and the thunderbolt, 'cause I had a very similar idea for the Weasel Bopper. XD

Ooh! I like your ideas, Fawn! Sola would be praising the fates when the Bolt landed right in front of her. She would snatch it up, hurry to change out of her horrid new uniform, gather her things, and try to escape without being noticed. BUT, as soon as she finished changing, the Bolt is gone.

Or, something like that. This is gonna be great!

So what we have so far, is that Tobias and Jaroah are the first to steal the bolt, (but Felix arrives at the secret chamber first) and end up setting Felix free after leaving a door open or something...
Felix steals the bolt from Tobias and Jaroah.
Felix climbs out the window and tries to scale down the mountain.
The bolt falls from Felix's bag, and lands at Sola's feet.


So who steals it from Sola? Tobias and Jaroah or Bon Vaygan maybe?

Now that I finally can get to this...YES I WOULD LOVE TO JOIN! XDDDDD I'm obviously going with Bon Vaygan here. All the ideas you've been generating are pretty great! The macguffin weapon sounds good and the whole scenario just sounds fun. Hmm... Bon Vaygan could probably put his acting skills to use somewhere. I'm sure that could get him in Salamandastron.

Also is this going to be like some sort of huge cycle? Like everyone inadverdently keeps stealing the weapon from each other until it just winds up in some random beast's paws? Hmm... I like the idea of it winding up with someone completely unexpected...who is the least likely to be seen with a huge weapon... Well if this is sort of out of anything plot related I could offer up Leander as he's usually an anxious mess, but Jan has Victiore who is really timid. What do you guys think? Any other characters?

I think so, Promatera. xD It's one big spiderweb of thievery! But I'm pretty sure our thieves are all flies caught up in this whole mess.
Braythe is probably the spider. A very huge, very angry spider who will devour anything even remotely guilty of stealing his precious thunderbolt.

o.O hmm...who would be an unexpected person to have the shiny object?

Victoire is a good candidate, and so is Leander. Personally, I also think Nik is a good candidate as well. xD After all, what would the Guosim Log-a-log be doing with the Badger Lord's Lightningbolt? It's also a little bit ironic because he hates thieves (as he's shown Bon Vaygan, I'm sure).

xD Should we have any Salamandastron hares get in on the action? Or just keep it strictly thieves, Braythe, the non-thief and a few NPCs when appropriate?

Dandy I think is also a good candidate for least-likely-to-end-up-with-the-shiny. (I feel like I'm hogging the spotlight with already two of my characters being offered the position. -squirms- I feel special at the same time, but still. ^^; ) Or even Koa if he somehow got to Sali with Cross or something.

Awesome! So, we've got five characters now. Tobias, Jaroah, Bon Vaygan, Sola, and Felix. That's two thieves, and I'm gonna say three grifters, since grifting is really just thespianism mixed with thievery.

As for it being a cycle, I was thinking something along these lines: The Shiny is kept in a box. It is being transported from the Vault to the Kitchens. Jaroah somehow grifts the transporters so that it is transported to the Badger Lord's Chambers, where Jaroah will grab the Shiny's box and hang glide from the window and into his waiting getaway car. However, when he opens the box, he finds that the Shiny is not in it. [End flashback] Tobias laughs. "Haha! I stole it! Here's how..." [begin new flashback]

So, yeah, it's kind of like a cycle, but it ends with none of the thieves actually getting away with the Shiny. They each think that they have won, but in each case, something has happened that prevented the thief from successfully stealing the Shiny. Yet it all leads to an ending, so it's not like an endless cycle.

I think I could easily start with either Tobias or Jaroah to help set everything up. If Tobias had the first flashback, I could include more details. Jaroah will get his own flashback apart from Tobias, in this case. I like taking the same situation and narrating it from two different points of view -- it's always entertaining. XD

((I'll have the details on Tobias' and Jaroah's individual cons either tomorrow or Wednesday.))

EDIT: Also, I'm not sure if it would work having Koa steal the Shiny. It would be cute, but then you couldn't really have Braythe taking the Shiny and storming away to Salamandastron at the end -- wouldn't be quite so funny. I think it should be whoever the Non-Thief is (The non-thief is the one that is pretty much deciding who among them is the best thief).

ANOTHER EDIT: By the way, pretty much everything in this post is a suggestion. If you guys don't like an idea or have a better one, we don't have to listen to me, by any means. ;D

Okay, had an idea last night and can't get it outta my head. Since Sola has been drafted into the Long Patrol, I'm actually going to have her flashback of how she stole the Shiny be how she got away from Sali. You know, it falls into her lap when Felix drops it (or however that happens, maybe she goes to the forge room on an errand and sees it) and then she finally says, "Forget you!" to the mountain and tries to leave.
BUT THEN, she loses the shiny somehow. And the next flashback begins.
Also, I'm okay with the Nonthief being Victiore if we really can't come up with anyone. But, that's just a suggestion, because I think it'd be funny to have shy little Vicky trying to quiet all these rogues down. She doesn't have to end up with the Shiny, or she can, and maybe she returns it to Braythe at the end. Or she could even have come to Sali for a specific reason. Like to see the new Badgerlord or offer her services as a healer (to have someplace to stay during the fall?)
Just some ideas. If y'all have another character who you think could be a better Nonthief than Vicky, please, say so. Again, these are rough. Ideas. Emphasis on the ROUGH. We don't have to use them.
