Recu had been enjoying the forest, having helped another family with their books. They had sent a messenger asking if the Abbey would like some of theirs, as they had no more room for it. haversack full of the tomes, Recu sat against a tree, resting his paws for a little.
Pulling out one of the new books, he started at the first page, sipping from his water skin.

Adder the fox was also known as Adoril twirled his dagger in the air. On his back, he carried a large and heavy sword. He was a fox that was completely black and you could hardly see him when he was in the shadows of the trees even though it was the middle of the day. Adoril looked forward at the fox that was sitting by the tree and reading. Most vermin didn't read. Maybe this fox was a little different. Its okay to be different, even Adder was different. Not only was Adder completely black. He is also good. He protects good beasts against vermin. Adder got his dagger in the throwing position and aimed at the foxes head but.... Oh no! He tripped on a root and fell straight in front of the fox's legs. His dagger popped out of his hand and Adder was on the ground and it felt like him hand might have been broken.

Recu wasn’t surprised when a fox turned up at his footpaws. Actually, he didn’t even seem to notice. He didn’t look up, he didn’t speak; he just kept on reading. At the end of the paragraph, he licked his paw, and turned the page.
“Ye know, ifn ye are trying to killeth I; ye are doing a horrible job of it, yes. Take it from an ex-assassin lad.” He twirled his stick over his head, the protective woodblocks coming free of the blades they concealed. Putting just the edge of the broad bottom one against the fox’s neck, he looked over the top of his book with a slight smile.
“So, are ye going to explain to I why ye are trying to killeth I? I hath done nothing to ye, and I am in a habit of yon Abbey, yes? Ifn ye be vermin, mon Abbes shat not mind ifn I send thee to yon hellsgates, yes.”
The blood-rust colored fox tilted his head, then looked back at his book. Phoo, he had lost his place.

"Umm... sorry" he tried to push himself up with his hand but he felt a burst of pain and had to lie down again. If he was going to get rid of this vermin the fox was right. He was doing a terrible job. He stood up using his other hand and went to pick up his dagger. "My sole purpose in life is to rid the world of evil, but you say you are from the Abbey. Redwall? Am I correct? You lie." the fox seemed good but you can never be sure.

The other fox didn’t seem to notice the blade pressed to him. Rolling his eyes, Recu put the book to the side, standing and leaning a little more pressure on this weapon.
“Really now. And I’m guessing that ye are the only good fox out there, the only brush-tail that isn’t vermin, yes? Ifn I was vermin, ye’d be dead by now, wouldn’t ye? I was an assassin, do ye think I would haft let ye sneak up on I? Nay, ye would haft been dead. However, ye are not. I be a good beast, reformed, ye see?”

"Well if you truly are what you say you are. Then, you are the second good vermin i have met this month. I feel it is strange. I have been to your abbey and I know that you have a infirmary. Will you bring me there? I think i broke my hand." Adder grunted as he lifted his hand. he was in a lot of pain and now he felt like he was getting these random shocks up his arm. He released his pressure on the fox, but he never let it go. He didn't want it to play a surprise attack on him. He was a cautious beast.

Recu sized him up, the nodded, lifting his staff away. Retrieving the caps, he stuck them in place, and brought his pack over to the fox. Kneeling down, he helped the vulpine to sit.
“Come, let I see yon paw. Perhaps I can helpeth a little before ye get it fixed. Ye’d travel better, yes.” He held out a roll of bandages for inspection. “I’d prefer to get to yon Abbey as quickly as possible, yes.”

"Thank you. Oh, i didn't catch your name. Mine is Adoril, you can call me Adder." Adder felt a lot safer now. The fox was helping him heal his broken hand, so he sheathed his dagger, but he was still a little wary. He nodded for the fox to start to bandage him and he held out his hand. Adder tried to make conversation to distract him from the terrible pain, "i saw you were reading. Nice what were you reading?"

“Recu is mon name. ‘Tis good to meet thee Adder. Hold still.” He wrapped the last of the paw, checking to make sure it didn’t move much. The infirmary would prefer that. He looked at the fox, thinking over whether he was really trusty enough to give the secrets of the new books away. Slinging his pack over his shoulder, he stood, starting his way to the Abbey.
“’Tis old tales of creatures who used to live here, and protect yon forest and Abbey. A little family had them, mayhap used them in old times long past to put young ones to bed and record their own history, yes.”

"Sounds interesting. Which way to your abbey? I am afraid that I have forgotten." Adder was a traveller so he had been to many places all over creation. It had been about 2 years since he had come to this part of the forest. It was beautiful. The forest was pretty, and so was the abbey. Most vermin don't dare to come near the peaceful abbey unless they mean war. The abbey may be a sanctuary of peace, but when their home was in danger the brothers and sisters of the abbey would fight out strong.

Recu shook his head, chuckling as he did so. To forget the way to the Abbey… he dare never do such a thing. He knew these forests so well now. He led the way to Redwall, glad that he could be of use.
“Yon Abbey be not far. ‘Tis this way, yes. Follow. What ye be doing in yon forest, might I ask?”
(Sorry this took so long, my internet hasn't started working until recently.)

"I am a wanderer. I travel where ever my heart leads me. I have recently been tired. I may be getting old." Adder chuckled. The great Adder old? No way! It scared him. He didn't want to settle down and resume the boring life of a abbey dweller or a simple forest creature living in a small cottage. No! Traveling was the way for Adder. "Its funny. I was actually searching for this particular abbey to rest in when I ran into you. Now it seems that I am in an even great need to find it."
