Oliden led Oakley the rabbitmaid through the abbey grounds over to the infamous pond, bordered by reeds and other plant life. His sleek paws brushed the tall stocks out of his way as he planted his rump on a flat stone, jutting out randomly on an awkward patch in the reed batch that was bare, except for grass.
He patted the space on the stone beside him, his eyes inviting. "'ere we are, mizzy. If we swimin' whilst we singin', we may very well be killin' two birds with one stone, eh?" he winked at the white rabbitmaid.
"As far as I know, marm, this place is as secluded as we'll find around the abbey where we can still sing our hearts out, aye," he explained, expressing himself with a concoction of paw motions and expressions. "I hope ye brought swimmin' clothes, matey!"

Oakley smiled, perching upon the rock next to her new otter friend. "Rather," she agreed. "I'd say we're killin' three birds. Teachin' you t'sing. Gettin' ye comf'table with singin'. And teachin' me t'swim." She held up three fingers with a wink of her own.

The rabbit nodded, glad that she'd taken the opportunity to change into some worn breeches and an old shirt before coming down here. "So, wot d'ye pr'pose we do, mate?" she asked, eyes on the pond. "I jump in an' give ye singin' lessons while ye show me how t'swim?" She giggled.
((No worries, matey.))

"Arrgh, mizzy, ye got me again!" the riverdog chuckled, slapping his knee in a comical gesture. "Don't think the birds are gonna' be too 'appy with ye killin' all their family members," he joked with another hearty laugh, though there was some frightening serious hidden somewhere in what he said. Many, many seasons ago, a raven and his crew tried to take over Redwall abbey. Oliden had heard the story as a young riverbabe, waddling around on his stubby paws and overly-large tail. The thoughts quickly subsided from his thoughts, though he was surprised that he'd actually bothered to remembered something from his childhood, especially when it had to do with abbey history.
"So, wot d'ye pr'pose we do, mate?" she asked, eyes on the pond. "I jump in an' give ye singin' lessons while ye show me how t'swim?" She giggled.
"I dunno, mate. 'fraid ye'd lose some o' yer air while paddlin' an' singin' at the same time," he teased with a mighty wink, playfully rapping her ever so lightly in the arm with a loose fist. "Why don't we take turns? Ye teach me some singin', n' I teach ye some paddlin'. We c'n start wit whatever ye want to do first, matey."

"Hard for me t'sing when I'm soaked," Oakley chuckled, returning the light rap on her shoulder with a nudge to his side. "Le's start with singin'." She stood up, moving to where she was directly in front of Oliden.
"A'right, me hearty," she began, smiling roguishly. "Follow after me. Do, ray, me, fa, so, la, ti, do." Her sweet voice carried well back here. Even though she was merely singing a simple scale, it sounded almost like the beginning of a song. "Did ye get all that? Try t'hit all the notes."

Oliden listened to the angelic melody that spilled through the rabbit's lips. "Aye.. I think I got it," the otter chided, clearing his throat before taking a deep breath. Mid-breath, he wondered, Am I really following through with this? No ones ever gotten me to sing me whole life!
"Do, ray, me, fa, so, la, ti, do!"
Oliden blinked, surprised at his own willingness to sing what he's got for another beast. Especially one he'd only met that morn. Shyness took over his furry body, but remembering Oakley's previous words about slinking off, he knew he had to keep his puffed-out position or he would have already failed her class. His singing was better than it was in the library, now that he was able to sing at full force with no worry of any otherbeast besides the rabbitmaid hearing him. "Eh, heh, heh..."

((By the way, this is almost exactly how i imagine Oakley sounds. Just a little less twangy: www.youtube.com/watch?v=c0iEj7alzAI&feature=youtube_gdata_player )) Oakley listened with an expert ear (or two) as the otter repeated the notes. He really wasn't bad, especially since they'd gotten over that confidence issue. She stood, her hips tilted to one side, her arms folded over her chest. It was a pose she'd picked up from her mother whenever Tuesday would regard something with a critical eye. "That was pretty good," she said at length, nodding in satisfaction. "Your high notes could use a bit of work, but otherwise you've nearly got it." She patted her abdomen, right below her ribcage. "Sing from here, ye diaphragm. Don't sing from here." She brushed her jawline below her chin with her other paw. "That'll jus' get ye a sore throat. Try again."

Thankee, marm!" he bowed to her then cleared his throat with a few coughs, swallowing his saliva before trying again: "Do, Re, Mi, Fa, Sol, La, Ti, Do!" he sang out as smoothly as his could without cracking his voice. Oliden had no trouble keeping his chin up after singing the scale this time. No one had ever been able to change him for the better so quickly. He found himself reminising on previous thoughts. It really is a shame that you're a rabbit, marm...((I'm SO sorry that it's so short. I can't focus on anything today! >.< ))

Oakley nodded, tapping her fingers in midair as if playing the keys of a piano as the otter repeated the scale. She smiled. "Much better," she complimented. "Work on them high notes, an' you'll be ready t'sing your heart out at the feast."
She put her paws on her hips, turning to look at the pond, raising a brow. "I'd like t'learn some swimmin' soon, if ye don't mind, Oliden," she said. "Don't mean t'cut your lesson short, but I b'lieve we may be losin' daylight soon. 'Tis autumn, y'know."
Not that she wouldn't keep singing until her voice gave out, but she had to admit she was pretty excited to be learning to swim. And there was the light issue. Besides, singing was actually best done indoors on a fall day, around a warm fire, surrounded by friends. Yes, the singing lesson could continue later this evening.

The riverdog chuckled. "I gotcha' missie," he winked, and suddenly burst off in a blur of brown fur, nearly soaring through the air and plopping into the pond. His head suddenly imerged, a goofy smile on the otter's face. "Alright, you try now," he teased, chuckling as he dragged himself out to the shallow part. There, he crouched by the shore and gestured for her to step next to him.
"Alright, so, you good at holdin' yer breath under water? 'tis essential for swimmin'," he explained, his rudder-like tail slapping against the water. "Rather learn swimmin' o'bove water er bellow, mate?"
((Sorry, again. I tried. Muse is totally off. x'D))
