Turegk glided over Mossflower country and enjoyed the crisp autumn air. It was a great day to be out flying before the harshness of winter and all the fighting against the cold wind. Turegk surveyed the ground below him with his sharp eyes and spotted a sign post.
He wasn't normally taken up in the afairs of beasts of the land, but he had heard that things in Mossflower were special, because of a place they called "Redwall" from what he had heard there was plenty of food to be had there, food that appealed to even his own kind. He had also heard that the Redwallers might actually allow him in.
After careful adjusting and much awkward shuffling, Turegk read the sign. that pointed to the place called Redwall. Turegk flew back up and aligned himself in the general direction that the sign pointed.
Turegk spotted the sandstone structure and investigated, it seemed that no beasts were outside.
Good, wouldn't want to scare them off.
The Golden Eagle finally decided on lighting upon the sandstone walltop, giving him a perfect view into the grounds. He was hoping the abbeybeasts didn't mistake him for a threat. Turegk plumped up his plumage and preened his wing feathers, biding his time for some of those tasty vittles.

"PRECIOUSS!!"
A raggedy, feathered creature flopped over the walltop from outside. Scrambling upright, it stood and stared at Turegk, in awe. It resembled a very scruffy, earthbound bird. Or perhaps a creature of some sort, it was difficult to tell exactly. Beads and feathers strung on strings and along tufts of fur, and his green eye focused clearly on the great eagle while his brown right eye wandered.
"Presciuous, my beautiful, my beauty..." He reached boldly, stepping forward and stroking the long feathers of the closest wing, his face dissolving into a grin.

Turegk wheeled around rapidly to both the call and the touch on the wing feathers. The Golden Eagle let out a shriek at the... Thing coming towards it. Automatically Turegk spread his wings and used them to both push himself backwards, and possibly throw the Thing to the ground. With that, Turegk eyed the beaded, feather covered beast and determined it to be some kind of land borne beast, though it looked like it was part bird.
"Stay down," Turegk said as he flew just a foot in the air and flicked on the metal claws on his talons like a lethal switchblade "and I won't remove your head."
This little visit to the abbey had turned into an encounter with an obviously mad beast. Hopefully one of the Redwallers could help him make sense of this.

"Stay down," Turegk said as he flew just a foot in the air and flicked on the metal claws on his talons like a lethal switchblade "and I won't remove your head."
Birdthief was sliding his paw along a particularly beautiful primary when it suddenly leaped away from him, stroking the air, a hard beat hovering the great eagle a mere foot above the ground. Birdthief’s eyes rounded in wonder and he backed up, watching rapt. The snick of metal claws was lost on him, who was caught up in the beat of the wings and the flash of feathers against the sky.
“Shiny.” He whispered, in awe. He used the word to mean many special things, beauty and wonder and awe. He blinked, clarity coming into his eyes, and made an awkward bow.
“Sorrry… sir. It is impolite to talk..” He searched for the words, eagle rusty on his tongue. “in creature. A bird of… your royal is deserving of talk in his own royal tongue.” He reached up and stroked along the primary as it flared and strained against the air. “Beautiful.”

Turegk was ready for a quick fight, and he could feel his training in him. Backclaw with left, slash with right.
He was instantly stupified and dropped down to the wall with such force that the metal talons gouged deeply into the sandstone.
“Sorrry… sir. It is impolite to talk..”
Those words.
In eagle
From this thing.
Eagle was primarily reserved for dealings between other birds and for fierce war cries. How this creature even discovered it was beyond him. But nontheless, it was a sign of great respect to be talked to in eagle even in the crude form this creature spoke.
"Thank you, sir, for granting me the use of my own language in a home of beasts." Turegk responded in eagle
"Now may I inquire," Turegk continued in the language of the Earthbound "exactly what you seek from me?"

"Heavens above!" a plump little mouse scurried up to the ramparts, one dainty paw clutching her purple hat, the other paw holding up her overlong skirts. Her eyes were wide, not with fear at the sight of the magnificent raptor on the wall tops, but with awe. "Pardon me! Sirs! I do beg ye pardon!"
December Krell giggled as she came to a halt a respectable distance away from the eagle and the, um, other creature. She removed a small journal from the folds of her robe along with a charcoal stick. "I'm so sorry t'interrupt, but I jus' couldn't help but notice how beautifully wonderful ye are, my dear, good eagle, sir!" It was clear she was quite at a loss for how to properly address the eagle. But her best effort was to use every good adjective she could think of, and every polite name for a male.
The calico-colored mouse smiled so wide, her eyes disappeared behind her plump little cheeks. "I do hope ye don't mind if'n I jus' sketch a quick likeness of ye," she asked, still looking to the bird. "T'won't be but a moment. You'll make a lovely painting, ye will."
Her eyes darted to the other creature. "Oh, my," she gushed, admiring his feathers. She wasn't quite sure what he was, but she wasn't here to judge. "What beautiful eyes ye have, sir." December did admire the look odd-eyes gave most creatures. It added a sort of off-balance appearance, yet at the same time, it added so much character.
((Sorry if that seemed rushed. December was in a bit of a rush.))

"Thank you, sir, for granting me the use of my own language in a home of beasts." Turegk responded in eagle
Birdy’s snaggle teeth showed in his face as he grinned wider at hearing the eagle tongue. It had been long seasons since he’d learned it and long seasons since he’d heard it. It wasn’t as noble or soothing to the ear as the language of terns, but it was up there. And there was certainly no language quite like that of eagles.
"Now may I inquire," Turegk continued in the language of the Earthbound "exactly what you seek from me?" But Birdthief’s words once again failed him, and he stepped closer without fear, this time his touch trailed lightly across breast feathers, up the shoulder and finally across the leading edge of the wing.
"Heavens above!"
Birdy turned around so swiftly that he bumped right into the eagle. He watched December curiously, she was so small, and so plump, and quite funny looking!
Her eyes darted to the other creature. "Oh, my," she gushed, admiring his feathers. She wasn't quite sure what he was, but she wasn't here to judge. "What beautiful eyes ye have, sir."
He blinked, looking stunned, his body stilling absolutely in surprise. Then a second later the stooped, skinny stoat was bobbing nervously, twitched, smiling and mumbling. “Thank’y mam, kind, th’nk’y mamm. Thankya.”
Then he bumped the eagle quite firmly with an elbow and said quite clearly in Eagle: "Be nice, I like her, she's nice. Be nice."

Turegk spun around with his wings billowing about him like a massive cloak. He was, at this point, beyond suprises and looked at the mouse.
December Krell giggled as she came to a halt a respectable distance away from the eagle and the, um, other creature. She removed a small journal from the folds of her robe along with a charcoal stick. But her best effort was to use every good adjective she could think of, and every polite name for a male.
Turegk eyed the mouse, her intentions seemed pure, and she shouldn't be much of a problem. Besides, she had just called him by almost every formal title the Earthbound had in their vocabulary. Turgek sweeped his wing across and tucked it back into resting position as the mouse spoke again.
Then he bumped the eagle quite firmly with an elbow and said quite clearly in Eagle: "Be nice, I like her, she's nice. Be nice."
Turegk already had decided that he wouldn't do anything rash, this mouse seemed rather excited to be talking to him.
"Then I shall grant you the view of me, if I can inquire your name, miss? And also of the whereabouts of this delicious food that I have heard word of on the thermals and among birds?"
He was going to get that food, and perhaps give a painting and a feather to get it.

“Thank’y mam, kind, th’nk’y mamm. Thankya.”
December giggled again, hurriedly sketching a quick profile of the regal eagle before her. "Oh, you're quite welcome," she said, half distracted. "Y'know it's rare we see many big, beautiful birds 'round 'ere. Chance of a lifetime, this is, y'see."
"Then I shall grant you the view of me, if I can inquire your name, miss? And also of the whereabouts of this delicious food that I have heard word of on the thermals and among birds?"
"Good gracious!" the calico mouse exclaimed. "Where on earth are my manners? My name's December Krell, my dear raptor." She curtsied and continued to sketch. "I'm thoroughly honored ye'd be so willin' t'pose for a moment. Then o' course I'll get ye any food ye like. Kitchen's allas stocked, y'know."
December looked up at the other creature. "Are ye hungry too, sir?" she asked hospitably. "Plenty o' vittles for ye if'n ye fancy it."

The tall, stooped stoat looked quite dazed as he walked around Turegk, admiring the eagle’s plumage. He had deteriorated into a mumbling, fast-paced speech, his lazy eye wandering erratically. He reached out and stroked the soft breast feathers, combed the tangles from the great primaries, smoothing the feather barbs to lying flat.
Finding a particular feather he admired, he tugged on it, not understanding why it would not come loose. The primary feathers of a wing are tightly bound in, and did not give easily to his insistence.

Turegk felt the pulling and rapidly jumped back with a buffeting of the wings. He cam to rest just a few feet from where he started and turned to December.
"You said something about food?"
He was getting really hungry.
