Name: Nik Lagdo
Gender: male
Age: 21
Species: shrew
Occupation: Logalog of the Guosim
Physical Appearance:
Nik's fur is a sandy tan color which fades to an almost honey-blonde on his chest, belly, and the underside of his tail. He is short but muscular, and his body is usually littered with cuts and bruises from various scraps with other Guosim shrews. Some beast hacked half of his tail off at some point, leaving him with a rather stumpy tail, even for a shrew. But the fur grew back nicely over the severed end, so one can barely tell the injury ever occurred, besides the fact that his tail is half as long as an ordinary shrew's. His eyes are a rich green color, the same color as his tattered headband. He wears a ripped green and brown vest and a dark brown belt. Usually, he wraps bandages around his forepaws and wrists.
Possessions:
Nik carries a sling, a pouch of sling stones, and his prized rapier, his favorite weapon. He rarely carries anything else besides perhaps a pack of provisions for when the Guosim go on long patrols. For times of debate and council within the Guosim, Nik also carries a black stone which is passed around to those who wish to speak their piece during these times.
Personality:
Nik is strong-willed, passionate about his beliefs, an excellent fighter, and responsible. He knows when to be serious and when it's time to goof off. He sees himself as equal to the shrews of his tribe, and he would die protecting them, no questions asked. As a leader, he is humble, yet he carries a sense of Guosim pride in him in that he knows he has plenty of capable fighting shrews he can count on when the need arises. He will always be first in the charge and last in the retreat.
Nik despises injustice, and he will do everything in his power to right a wrong, be it a squabble in the Guosim or an encounter with a murderous vermin gang threatening the tribe. He takes time to spend with his fellow shrews, making good friends and forming strong bonds. If he wants to make an ally, he works hard to strengthen the relationship with trust, never willing to settle for uncomfortable and unpredictable alliances. He handles things quickly and decisively, since he hates leaving disputes unsettled. He has a deep respect for his elders, knowing that much can be learned from years of experience.
He is a born fighter, and he never turns down the opportunity to prove it. Whether in a spar with his mates or in a real fight, Nik can be counted on to throw the first punch. He takes personal responsibility whenever a fellow warrior is hurt or killed in a battle, and he mourns for the fallen as if they were his family, as he treats every shrew in his tribe.
Strengths:
An excellent boxer, Nik is one of the best hand-to-hand combat fighters in the Guosim. He is always willing to protect those weaker than he, especially pretty Guosim maids. He listens to the advice and council of the elders, and he follows orders obediently. He is a responsible, caring leader.
Weaknesses:
As mentioned before, Nik is stubborn. And although he will listen to advice and council, he usually acts upon his own instincts. He can hold a serious grudge. Any beast that remotely resembles vermin is automatically classified as 'bad' to him.
History:
Nik has lived the typical life of a Guosim shrew warrior. He learned to paddle a log boat when he was strong enough to hold an oar. He trained with the other young shrews to become a skilled fighter. However, since his father was the Logalog, Nik took his training much more seriously than the others, constantly honing his fighting abilities with near endless practice. Befriending a small family of otters, Nik became an excellent swimmer under their teaching. When he turned seventeen, he (officially) joined a Guosim patrol for the first time. He had been tagging along on patrols before then, but he had never been allowed to fight if trouble arose. This time, he would be able to join the fighting. And fight he did. The patrol came across a large vermin gang near River Moss, and the gang attacked without warning. Nik took out three vermin before he was pinned against a tree by a particularly large rat. The rat cut off half of Nik's tail. Nik cut off the rat's head. For almost two months, Nik had to walk around with a big bandage around the shortened stump of his tail. Any beast who mocked him received a black eye. One shrew didn't mock him, however. Her name was Mira. Nik took an immediate liking to her and proceeded to court her. However, two years later, Mira was killed on a patrol by a group of rogue weasels. Nik blamed himself for her death and went into a deep depression for almost a full year. But he pulled himself out of it by focusing on his training more than ever. Although his fighting skills were already great, he pushed himself to become even better. Later that same year, his father was brutally killed in a battle with a vermin gang, and Nik was given the position of Logalog quite unexpectedly. The event shocked him, but the battle was still raging, so he couldn't dwell on his own personal emotions for long. Now that he was leader, he would have even more responsibility to protect those of his tribe. When the battle ended, he and the rest of the Guosim warriors gave his father a proper burial and the elders wished to recognize Nik as the new Logalog, but he claimed he wasn't ready. He told the elders of the tribe that he wanted to remain as a captain for the Guosim until his twenty-first birthday. Since Nik was already almost twenty-one, anyway, they agreed to his plan, and during the next several months, Nik spent his time learning what it meant to be a leader. He asked the elders, he led more patrols than ever, and he got to know the members of his tribe. Finally, the day came when Nik turned twenty-one. He was officially recognized as the Logalog in a ceremony held before all the Guosim. Swearing to give his life protecting his beloved tribe, Nik received the sacred title which was his by right and chose a deputy in his best friend Ban. He takes his position seriously, and the death of his father changed something in him. He is far more serious and responsible than he was. Now, when he isn't training or taking care of his responsibilities as Logalog, he and his best friend Ban can be found sparring, or just relaxing, since Ban insists Nik take some time off. Nik is more or less over the death of Mira by now, and he has his eye on a few pretty Guosim maids. He still holds some pent-up sadness over his father's demise, but he knows the best way to get over it is to lead the tribe as well as his father did.
Relationships:
Nik is not in a relationship, but he is looking. His mother is still alive, but his father was killed. He has many friends within the Guosim.
His best friend and deputy is a slightly younger shrew named Ban.
His mother still lives, and she helps around the tribe as an experienced midwife.
Other:
Nik loves the color green.
His rapier is his favorite weapon when he can't fight hand-to-hand.
He has always wanted to visit Redwall, but his responsibilities with the Guosim have to come first.
