Hey guys We have a thread for favorite characters, so why not the books themselves? My personal favorite is Mossflower, hands down. The second Redwall book Dr. Jacques published just gives me serious shivers when reading it. Martin can be scary, guys. If you're a villian, that is. Anyway. It was the first book of his that I owned (I got it for Christmas when I was 14) and by far definitely the one most often pulled off my shelf It has these raspberry stains along the pages on the top though because I accidentally dropped it in a bucket of raspberries.... ><;; Yeeeeaaah...... Anyway. My second favorite book is Lord Brocktree. Histarical, that is. So - which is your favorite out of all the Redwall books?

Yargh, can't decide!
I personally loved Rakkety Tam, Taggerung, The Sable Quean, the High Rhulain was good (except for the death of the villain), and the Rogue Crew was spectacular -- again, the villain should've died in a much more epic way. It's been a while since I've read any of the others though. o.O
I haven't read Doomwyte yet, and I don't remember Loamhedge or Mattimeo at all. I think Marlfox was good too.

Lord Brocktree.
The feeling of history gives this one a 'legendary' feel more than the other books - even Legend of Luke and Martin The Warrior - and it contains two of my favorite characters!

I have to say that Martin the Warrior was probably one of my more favored books in the series. I've been reading the whole series in publication order so by the time I had gotten to Martin the Warrior I had a pretty good idea of who Martin was, but to see him further developed in Martin the Warrior was just so awesome.
Can't spoil it, but the ending was excellent! I loved the book from start to finish and it really helped solidify the series in my heart! XD

Personally, my favorite books were Taggerung and High Rhulain. I was always interested in the otter cultures. Lord Brocktree was another favorite.

I guess with my name being Sunflash the Mace I should admit that Outcast of Redwall was my favorite. Swartt Sixclaw and his evil son! Long lost badger finds his mother! (Cregga) And let's not forget the tears I shed over poor Skarlath! I felt shivers run down my spine and wanted to charge in with Sunflash wielding my OWN hornbeam mace!!

Mossflower for me. Gnoff was such a rouge! I love the relationship between Martin and Gnoff. Also those two little hedgehogs were adorable!

Mossflower by a long way.
The characters in the book were incredible. Martin, Dinny and Gonff were great main characters, and Bella the badger was wise. Tsarmina is one of my favourite villains as she was actually scary at times, and her madness and fear of water just added to the depth of her character.
The storyline is pretty awesome, and there are some pretty cool side-plots as well. Ferdy and Coggs wandering off to invade Kotir made me laugh, The Gloomer verse Stormfin was well described and the story of The Mask is compelling. He is also a great character, so mysterious. The story is an emotional rollercoaster, from the happy (Martin and Timballisto reunited) to the sad (the deaths).
And, of course, the final battle. The Martin and Tsarmina duel is amazing and one of the more realistic fights in the book. The simple fact that Martin is seriously injured shows this. And the way Tsarmina meets her end is pretty creative. The "goodies" had more casualties, so the "Stormtrooper Effect" wasn't as obvious.
And pretty much it set up the whole storyline of Redwall and introduced Salamandastron, Skipper of Otters, Loamhedge and Redwall itself. I think from when Brian Jacques stopped linking the storylines together the books just lacked a bit. They started to repeat the storylines. Don't get me wrong, I love every Redwall book, I just prefer the older ones, and Mossflower is my favourite. It seems to be in almost every Redwall fans top 5, and there's a reason.

I'd have to say I have about.... 3
Salamandastron I really like Samkim, and I'm an archer so that ties into it as well. Klitch was pretty cool too, and Ferhago made a good villain. The inland lake/sea was a nice touch. Redwall getting a new Badger mother was nice.
Marlfox Dannflower Reguba is probably my favorite Abbey champion (who else thinks he marries Song?) Song was a great character to have along as well, especially at the end with her father and the Hedgehogs. The marlfoxes themselves were well designed too, Ascrod was probably my favorite. Love the duel between Dippler and the traiter Fenno!
The Bellmaker It was just a really nice story in general, didn't really like Mariel though. Blaggut becoming good was one of the highlights of the book for me. Loved the "Butcher Bird" too!
P.S. How do you guys wright so long on one post?!

Daniel, I think you have a good point. Before some of his later books, there was a clear connection to past arcs that helped tie the series together. Pearls of Lutra connected to Mattimeo, Long Patrol, Marlfox, and Taggurung were connected through Cregga, Triss was connected to Taggerung through the skipper, and High Rhulain and Salamandastron covered the legacy of Urthwyte.
