Name: Sabik
Gender: Male
Age: 19 Years Old
Species: Field Mouse
Occupation: Escaped Slave
Physical Appearance: Sabik wears a green scarf with a leaf brooch attached at the side, the only possessions that were given to him as a free beast. On his shoulder is a small metal guard attached by a leather strap. It belonged to one of rat guards that tried to capture him. He also wears a belt and a raggy pair of loose fitting slave pants. On his belt are a few small pouches for trinkets, water, and little vittles. On his back are Sabik’s sword and shield at the ready for combat. He also wears a pair of shackles that he hasn’t been able to remove, however, he has been able to break the chains that bind them.
Sabik is an average sized field mouse, neither tall nor short. However, he has a very strong build, developing his muscles at a young age working as a slave. His coat of fur is brown in color with a slight hint of orange. His undercoat turns into a much lighter, grayed out brown. Sabik has two unique markings in his coat. Both are remarkably light colored spots, one around his right eye and the other on the tip of his left ear. Other than his special markings, Sabik is the spitting image of his father. He is a handsome young mouse ready to take on the world for freedom.
Possessions
Upon escaping his captors, Sabik, stole away a few things to help him along the way. He managed to get a hold of a large blade that wasn’t too difficult to wield for a strong mouse such as himself. Its guard and its hilt are elaborately designed in gold while the handle is framed in a wood that matches with its sheath. Along with the sword, he managed to get a hold of a nice strong redwood shield. Decorated with big studs to provide further defense. He keeps a small chipped dagger under his belt, which has more sentimental value than a use.
Personality:
Growing up as a slave has taught Sabik to be thankful for every blessing, small or large. He is extremely polite and kind to friends. He acts a lot like a young dibbun, probably because he missed that part of his life as a slave. When it comes to girls, he’s pretty shy, and usually get’s tongue-tied. On the other hand of him being so kind, he hates all vermin. He is not afraid to stand up against any enemy despite the odds. He has an extreme hate for slavers in particular and will stop at no means to free slaves. When Sabik escaped slavery, he knew that he was good at fighting and physical labor. He didn’t want to continue fighting but he wasn’t sure what else was out there for him. It’s his dream to find a life that will suit him, whatever that life may be.
Strengths:
Growing up as a slave, Sabik was forced into hard manual labor. He was also forced into combat when he had to fend for his life and escape to freedom. In order to survive, he had to adapt, and become a strong warrior. He is both quick and strong, two valuable assets in combat.
Weaknesses:
Sabik doesn't know much about the world outside the vermin castle. He doesn't know how to swim or navigate through the woods. Little things that make it hard for a traveler who's never experienced them. He also has a problem with getting angry around slavers. Almost like a badger, vermin can manipulate Sabik into a mad rage. However, he is not big like a badger that can plow through enemies in his rage.
History:
A lot of Sabik’s history involves working as a slave in a great vermin castle far away from Redwall. As soon as he was able to work, he was taken away from his parents and forced into labor. Like the rest of the slaves, he was given small provisions of water and bread. Giving him just enough to keep him alive and working. Any chances to see his family were momentary at the most. Walking past one another on their way to their next task. The vermin kept the slaves separated and busy so that they would never plot on mass escapes.
Unfortunately for Sabik there is no honor among vermin and he was caught in the wrong place at the wrong time. It all happened when a lower class stoat snuck into the royal palace and stole a few trinkets. One of the objects stolen was a jewel, which the king’s daughter adored. She was enraged when she found that it was missing and blamed the slave working closest to her room at the time. This was Sabik who was scrubbing the floors when all the blame was thrown upon him.
In this kingdom, the vermin had a special way of punishing their slaves for major offenses like theft and attempted escapes. They had built a great arena in the center of the castle where they had imprisoned a great poisonous adder. The unfortunate slaves were pitted against the adder, unable to defend themselves as they were shackled and provided with no weapons.
It just so happened that two other slaves would have to face the adder. So it was decided that the three of them would all compete together on the following day. That night Sabik worked vigorously at his shackles, bashing away at them with a sturdy rock. He was careful not to break them, just wear them down enough so that they would be easy to snap the next day.
When the day had arrived he was led through the crowds into the arena. It was there that his father Stroud, took advantage of the large crowds. Pretending to bump into Sabik, but actually slipping him a small chipped dagger. When the tree slaves were released into the arena. The others were immediately willing to help out Sabik when they saw the work he did on his shackles. The massive snake was released and immediately the other two slaves began to distract the beast while Sabik found a local rock and finished his work on his chains. When he broke free, he immediately charged the beast. Jumping into its side with the chipped knife. His knife lodged itself into the side of the snake where Sabik held on for dear life. The snake flailed back and forth trying to shake the blade free, which didn’t take long due to its great strength.
Sabik was whipped across the arena where he lay in the dirt. The two other slaves tried to distract the snake again but the beast was too enraged to see anything but it’s attacker. The slaves tried grabbing a hold of its tail, but they were flailed off like nothing. Vermin and slave onlookers were both cheering, although both sides hoping for different outcomes. Never having seen a slave break from their shackles before and actually have a weapon, the crowds were going wild.
Before the snake could reach Sabik, he broke from his daze and jumped to his feet. He bolted across the arena, jumping into the gate that blocked his exit. He quickly scaled the gate while the snake darted towards him from behind. When Sabik reached the top, he pulled out the rock from earlier, working to break open the gate. He was too distracted to see the adder’s enraged strike, however, the snake missed its target and hit the gate instead. This caused Sabik to drop right on its head. Quickly he drew out the knife and stabbed the beast in it eye. This time the snake went into a horrific rage, hissing out in pain and flailing Sabik into the air.
He landed a distance away from the snake where the other two slaves helped him to his feet. They watched as the snake flailed itself around in a mad rage. Repeatedly bashing itself up against the gate. Each time it hit the gate, the vermin behind took another step back, knowing that the gate wouldn’t take much more damage. Before they could get too far away, the gate bashed open and the snake grabbed a hold of one of the vermin.
Mass chaos set out in the crowds and streets as vermin ran to hide while slaves began to rebel. In all the commotion, quite a few slaves managed to escape the castle walls. Sabik who knew that he would surely die on the spot for all the chaos, fought vigorously to get outside the walls. He managed to take down a few guards and get better weapons so that he could break to the outside. It was much harder for him to escape since there were so many vermin out to get him. At one point he was almost caught by a group of 6 guards when the enraged snake came tearing through the lot of them, picking one up and swallowing him whole.
Sabik escaped with a few other slaves but they all separated paths to avoid easy tracking. Sabik winded up escaping along the riverside and following the current. A few days passed in constant fleeing from trackers trying to hunt him down. However, Sabik kept one foot ahead and the trackers eventually lost muse and decided to return empty handed.
After Sabik was completely free, he continued to follow the river. At the river’s end he followed the shores for a while, and eventually he broke from the shores into a forest. Sabik continued to travel because he really didn’t know what to do next. Along his way he’d run into small groups of vermin, and goodbeasts who needed rescuing. He would help them out to the best of his ability, putting in extra effort if the vermin were slavers. At one point, Sabik rescued an old hogmaid from two ruffian ferrets. The grateful hedgehog was so pleased that she brought Sabik back to her home where she fed him and crafted him a quality green scarf. Along with crafting clothing, the hogmaid was also skilled as a jeweler. She had small brooches all over her house, which she let Sabik select one to keep. To this day Sabik treasures his scarf and brooch because they were the first gifts he ever received as a free beast. The old hogmaid also told Sabik about a great little place called Redwall Abbey. She told him all about the Abbey and recommended that he pay it a visit. He thanked her greatly and headed off in its direction. Excited to see what it was all about since it sounded like a dream to a mouse that lived as a slave all his life.
