Name: Enon McKie
Gender: Female
Age: 26
Species: Gray Squirrel [melanistic, or black]
Occupation: Wanderer
Physical Appearance:A lean and sinewy squirrel of average height, Enon is taller than some and shorter than others. Her tail is slightly longer then she is tall. Her fur is a black so dark as to have bluish highlights, and is medium length and thick over her whole body, except on her tail, where the fur is longer and bushier.
Enon’s facial features are too strong to be a true beauty, but yet she is not quite homely. Even so, a slanting scar that runs the length of her face from her scalp, down though her right eye and ends just short of her jawbone. It is widest on that edge, where the blade went in deepest. Fortunately, she did not lose her eye completely, but the scar makes the lid droop at half-mast, and sight from that eye is considerately dimmer than the other, uninjured eye. Her eyes are a dark brown, almost black.
Other scars trace their silvery path through her fur, but the most prominent and noticed is the one on her face.
Possessions: Enon is most comfortable using her sling, but she is also a passable bowbeast, and carries both a bow and the aforementioned sling. She also has a quiver of arrows, a stone pouch, extra bowstrings and a longbladed throwing dagger.
Some more personal items are a braided cord necklace with a rough piece of amber braided in to serve as a pendant, a smooth green pebble she uses as a worrystone, a canteen, and a haversack to carry supplies while she is on the road. She also has a book, which is worn with much reading.
Personality:Enon is a private creature, she does not easily trust others with details of her personal life or feelings. She is friendly towards other beasts, though some view her abruptness and tendency to speak what she thinks when she thinks it annoying and rude.
She loves to travel, just being free a large part of it. She is not all that fond of staying in one place a long time, and often moves on within a season. She also loves to read, and usually passes by Redwall and/or Salamandastron once or twice a year, just so she can borrow a book or two.
Strengths:
An excellent treeclimber, she is hard to find, let alone catch, once she’s climbed a tree.
She is extremely good with her sling, and can hit moving targets at far distances with a great deal of accuracy.
Enon is skilled at mimicry, she can imitate voices, though she usually uses this to mimic the dialect of the creature she is speaking to at the time.
Weaknesses:
Not a good swimmer, Enon only crosses water if she can touch the bottom or if there is a sturdy boat available.
Claustrophobic, Enon has a tendency to panic in close spaces.
History:
Enon was born in summer, the only child of a pair of gray squirrels who lived in the wooded mountains to the north of Mossflower, the Borderlands. Although her parents were born in that region, they both had the wanderlust. They traveled throughout the country with their young child and belongings in a cart.
Enon particularly remembers visiting Noonvale, her family spent regularly spent a season or two there before moving on. They also visited Redwall regularly, and once they even traveled to Salamandastron. As a result of all of this traveling, Enon only has a slight accent.
When Enon was ten years old, her mother caught pneumonia and died over the winter. They were staying in Redwall Abbey at the time, and they buried her in the abbey cemetery. Although they moved on in the spring, Enon could tell that her father never got over her mother’s death. They traveled together for two more years before her father died. They were ambushed by a band of rats, and her father was spitted on a rat’s spear before Enon could blink. She was pulling the cart, but she dropped it and skinned up the nearest tree. She jumped from one tree to the next, until she couldn’t hear the rats any longer.
She snuck back and followed them to their camp, where she waited until they slept. Sneaking into the camp, she took some of her belongings and stuffed them into a haversack, along with some food and her father’s throwing dagger, which she stole from the leader, a scrawny fox in a drunken sleep. She went back to where they had left her father’s body and buried him in a hollow where she covered him with dead branches and leaves.
From that day on, she traveled alone. She continued on the way they had been going, eventually reaching Redwall Abbey, where she stayed until the next summer. She locked her feelings away, keeping them private. A great deal of the time she spent at Redwall Abbey those three seasons was spent alone, mourning her parents.
She set out the summer she turned thirteen to travel again, despite the abbey dwellers’ pleads to stay, she was too young to roam alone. She ignored their arguments and headed for Salamandastron. She asked the badger lord permission to learn from his soldiers, and received rudimentary training in how to use a sword, how to throw daggers accurately, how to use a bow, how to use pole-arms and a sling. Her family had been peaceful travelers, and that had not ended well for them. So she was determined to learned the arts of war as well she could. She trained with a regiment of hares, lived and ate with them, and even went to battle with them.
She received the scar on her face during a battle with sea pirates who were determined to become land pirates. She was twenty years old, and had been fighting with the hares for five years. She was fighting dagger against dagger with a stoat when he brought his dagger down across her forehead, through her eye, and finally her cheek. He barely scratched her forehead and eye compared to her cheek wound, which almost scraped her cheek bone and jawbone. She lost a lot of blood, and the end of the battle is a blur to her. She doesn’t even know what happened to the stoat.
Her cheek had to get stitches, and that whole half of her face was covered in bandages for almost a season. The greatest concern was the eye, and they were all greatly relieved when she still had some vision in it.
Not long after that, she bid goodbye to her friends at Salamandastron and resumed her traveling.
She barely stayed in one place a season after that, always moving on. One year she traveled south to Southsward, but that is the extent of the significant events of the last five years.
