What goes on, fellow Redwallers? This thread is up because I wanted to ask y'all a question, if I might. What music do y'all listen to? (Pun intended on the title.)
Me? I like Christian rock, mostly. But I also like movie soundtracks (songs sung by the characters in movies, movie music with and without lyrics), and I do enjoy good country music. (I'm a Texan, guilty as charged.) I also like some pop music, too. Here's a list of some of my top fave artists: Francesca Battistelli Steven Curtis Chapman Tenth Avenue North Miranda Lambert Jack Johnson John Mayer Nickel Creek Act of Congress
Don't worry if you haven't heard of them. I've adopted a bunch of my dad's old stuff into my playlists, so some of it's older music. What about y'all?

Nothin' wrong with a bit o' country music. Know what happens when you play a country song backwards? I am right there with ya with Francesca Battistelli. And of course, Steven Curtis Chapman is classic. Haven't listened to Tenth Avenue North yet, but I probably should, haha -- they seem popular. Okay, so here are my favorite artists, in no particular order. Rebecca St. James Skillet Family Force 5 tobyMac Chris August Jamie Grace Anthem Lights Gaither Vocal Band (Marshall Hall, yes?) Avalon Jody McBrayer Jimmy Needham Mandisa Britt Nicole Newsboys (with Michael Tait as lead singer) Newworldson Point of Grace Danny Gokey Randy Travis In conclusion, yes, I only listen to Christian music (with the exception of movie soundtracks composed by Hans Zimmer). This is really just because I have to like the lyrics of a song to like the song, and to me, Christian songs have much more meaningful lyrics. I could go into a lot detail on this, but suffice to say... that's just how I roll. ;D

I've been waiting for a thread like this to pop up! Points for initiative Jan! XD
Anyway I am pretty varied with the music I listen to, but I gravitate towards alternative or soft rock and classical. Alternative rock is just a great balance of sound and substance and I love it! Soft rock just sounds really nice to the ears and can be just as great. Classical is a new interest of mine, but I can't believe I have missed out on such beauty! Glad to have gained an appreciation of it. Now let's see... diving into specific examples we have
Alternative Rock: The Smashing Pumpkins (Love their album Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness) Some Live Coldplay
Soft Rock: Simon and Garfunkel anyone? I'm looking more and more into Billy Joel as well
Classical: I've got this huge mash of Mozart and Beethoven that I just love to listen to. Their symphonies are just beautiful
So yeah that's a bit of what I listen to. Unfortunately Jan I have not heard of your favorite artists, but I think I may look them up XD

@t-Bone: You have excellent taste, sir! And that's who I forgot to add to my list! Hanz Zimmer! I love his work in some of the Disney and Dreamworks stuff. Promatera: Haha, it's alright if you've never heard of my favorites, because I haven't heard of some of yours, either! (With the exceptions of course of Mozart, Beethoven, and, I think, Coldplay.)

Django: Thank ye kindly, ma'am! You too have exceptional taste in the musical arts! Yeah, admittedly, of Promatera's music, I only recognized Coldplay and Beethoven and Mozart. I feel I should add that I prefer modern classical artists. You only ever get to hear their works in movies, but it's really quite impressive. The best, in my opinion, are Hans Zimmer, City of the Fallen, Two Steps from Hell, Immediate Music, and the occasional song by Brand X Music. Good stuff.

I love so many different kinds of music, everything from Vivaldi to 2pac. I like older hip hop and rock, but loooove today's alternative, artists such as Cake and of course Kid Cudi. From my point of view, there is no such thing as one right kind of music, everyone likes what they like!

Sounds like I've got quite a few artists to check out! XD
Also has anyone heard of Explosions in the Sky? They're a purely instrumental band, but their music is just amazing.
Ahah! Rather than explain why not show? XD

Awesome music, Promatera! And I haven't even finished listening to the whole thing yet! I love good instrumental music. Here's something cool I found. A sweet medieval song performed in Dutch (beautiful language). Normally I don't care for songs in other languages, but I really liked the tune of this one. The band is called Virelai. The leader singer has a great voice! Here's the link: www.youtube.com/watch?v=ms6kS8TzR_E&feature=youtube_gdata_playerA rough translation of the lyrics (they just repeat these lines): I saw a wolf, a fox, a hare I saw them dance, all three I saw a wolf, a fox, a hare In the winter’s cold snow I saw them dance, all three Awfully cute song! The melody and flow of it was so inspiring. I literally replayed this countless times while working on a sketch based off the lyrics. -Django
