Drecas hopped nimbly from stone to unstable stone, glass jars clanking in his herb pouch. This time around he was in search of gas, trapped below the surface of the mud and quicksand bogs in the area. This posed a huge risk, but one he was willing to take, as he was on to something with this new idea.
If I have this right, he thought, as he crossed each stone, observing the ground around him for any signs of bubbling coming forth from beneath the bogs, There'd be a large quantity of gas coming from any bubbling activity. I haven't seen any motion as of yet... maybe the mud's too thick to let anything escape.
He hopped to a slightly more stable rock, his sandalled footpaws landing on it with an audible clacking noise. He looked at the ground around him, which looked fairly solid. He hadn't brought a stick of his own, and there weren't any nearby sticks. As he tried to think of an option, the ground beneath the stone shifted, causing it to wobble and throw the squirrel off balance, causing him to reflexively step forward onto the ground, where his feet started to sink. He tugged at his left foot, which wouldn't budge, no thanks to his sandals, and only sent his right one sinking further. He tried tugging at that one, which only caused his left one to sink. After a while he was up to his knees in the stuff, and decided struggling wasn't going to work. He decided to wait patiently, not struggle, and see if any help would come.
((This one's open to anyone, feel free to help or hinder me :3))

argyros silverfur || arctic fox || neutral -- Prince of Thieves [/sub] Thud! His stiletto landed firmly in the trunk of a three but a few yards away from him. Of course, it would never be a challenge for someone with as much skill with a dagger as him, but Argy was feeling exceptionally bored today. Anything would pass as long as it gave him a second's worth of amusement. Standing up, he leaned forward and gave a hearty tug on Pegasus's hilt, yanking the tip of the blade out of the oak tree's trunk. His cerulean eyes examined the dagger for a second before he sheathed it back in it's proper place on his waist belt. Enough of throwing daggers and time to get back to business. Unforunately, the sound of glass jars clanking and banging together distracted the arctic fox as he swung his head in the direction of the noise. His oversized silver ears easily picked up the noise and wear it was coming from. Honestly, what beast in their right mind would make such a racket in the middle of the marshlands? Argy cringed, hoping it wasn't a vermin of any sort. Placing his left paw firmly on the hilt of Thornwort, his most trusted dagger, he crept stealthily forward, bending down and avoiding the soggy, damp soil where he could easily get stuck and fall. As he approached, the first thing he noticed was that the noise level had decreased considerably. He couldn't catch the sound of pawsteps, or even voices. Had this unknown creature heard him - or smelled - him coming? Tightening his grip on Thornwort, he kneeled down and peered out from behind the cover of a thick, stout willow tree. Argy's eyes immediately caught the sight of a squirrel, standing stockstill in some foot deep, brownish substance that seemed to be sucking him deeper and deeper into its depths. Well what had this buddy gotten himself into? he mused to himself, stepping forward to make his presence known. The squirrel wasn't in any danger as of now - it would take a while for him to sink down and actually drown in the boggy liquid. Thus, Argy took his time in watching Drecas and brekaing the silence with his own charming voice. " You seem to have gotten yoreself in a bit of a fix there, sir," he smirked, leaning back casually against the willow trunk. Oh yes, he would save Drecas sooner or later, but where was the fun in being too kind? Besides, he had to admit that he was curious about this squirrel. What was it with the herb pouch? Where did he come from? Deciding to wait his time until it was absolutely necessary to save him, he stood almost lazily on a sturdy rock. ooc;; lame entrance. [/blockquote]

Startled slightly, the squirrel looked up. "Ah, hello there, fox," He said, wondering if this newcomer would be able to help him, "Yes, I do rather seem to have gotten stuck. Not all of the rocks are stable here, you see." He tugged at one leg, and the soft mud responded by making loud sucking noises as it held his paws ever tighter. "Would you, err, care to assist?" he inquired hopefully.

His onyx eyes widening slightly, the ferret couldn't help but chuckle to himself. The squirrel had somehow succeeded in getting himself stuck in the thick marsh, and judging by the jars he had around him, trying to collect something. Even better, he had maneged to sink himself in quite deeply without the vermin "accidentally" pushing him down. It was a perfect setting, or it would be, if the squirrel actually had anything worthwhile on him. "Oh, come on!" Yongrui whined in his native language, pouting. "All you have is a couple of jars! That's no fun!" Speaking almost inaudibly so the squirrel wouldn't hear him - although it really didn't matter, it would have sounded like nonsense to any passing woodlander - the vermin sat, hiding, waiting for something to happen.
Thankfully, something did. An arctic fox, cruel-looking and graceful came to the squirrel's rescue. The fox seemed to drawl almost lazily, but that couldn't be possible because wood-landers always helped each other, Yongrui knew that well, and made it a point to take advantage of that fact as much as he could. Groaning softly as his leather boot sunk into some mud the male quickly pulled it out, knowing what the obvious consequences were. It still had a wet feeling in it and Yongrui was tempted to take it off, but it was cold and fox was armed; if he had to run away he would be slowed down by the lack of a shoe.
Stepping out from his hiding spot the ferret was silently grateful he had remembered to bury his bag in some dirt before - it only weigh him down in this situation. Holding his hands up to show he had no weapons, even though he had a dagger or two hidden in his pouch Yongrui put on his warmest smiliest. "'Ello derr!" He spoke loudly and slowly, but still somehow maneged to butcher the language. There could be a problem if they misunderstood - he had no intent to be attacked and forced to run in sticky marshes. Craning his neck towards the creatures ever so slightly the young ferret widened his lazy smile, showing off a bit of his yellow sharp teeth. Maybe the fox had something valuable in hid bag, or maybe the squirrel had something expensive hidden up his clothes.
Wiping his boot on some random stone, the ferret waited. "I meen no har'!"

((I'm fine with it, it's an open to all anyways XD))
The ensnared squirrel looked up at the ferret. "Ah, h-hello there. Are you perhaps able to assist me? I seem to have gotten a little stuck in my search for swamp gas here, and I must get back to the Infirmary before dark." He tugged a little at his feet again, but the sticky mud clung to his sandals, pulling his legs back in. The squirrel continued to sink in the mud, up to his waist.
"I could really use some help right about now!" he said, beginning to panic slightly.

argyros silverfur || arctic fox || neutral -- Prince of Thieves [/sub] There was a rustling sound to his right, and his ear flickied absentmindedly in that direction. He knew he was being extremely careless right now, but so was that piece of vermin scum hiding back there. Argy had no doubt that the creature was intended to do more evil than good, but he had his five stilettos with him. What harm could anyone possibly do to him? So he resolved in watching the poor squirrel sink painfully slowly into the muddy liquid with an expressionless, almost cold, face. It was obviously decided that he would save him in the end. After all, Argy wasn't a heartless killer like some would think he was. In fact, he had made it his sole mission to rid Mossflower of any dangerous criminals. The rustling sound grew louder and the arctic fox's magnificent silver paw floated lazily towards his dagger, although it was obvious that his grip on the hilt was firm and tight. Just as he had anticipated, within seconds, a flustered looking ferret had popped out of the undergrowth, and as he attempted to make a rather unintelligable greeting, Argy scrutinized him out of the corner of his cerulean eye. The creature looked relatively harmless, but it would never be Argyros' nature to trust vermin too quickly. Thus, as Yongrui spoke, he slowly turned to face the newcomer with a blank, undecipherable mask worn on his face while keeping his paw hanging nonchalantly off of Thornwort, his main dagger. There was a gleam in Yongrui's eyes that he didn't like. " Why 'ello there, sir," he greeted in an unusually friendly tone, giving the ferret a nod and a wink. Might as well play it out nice. No point in making enemies if'n he's not gonna kill us all, he thought to himself, drawing out the time. Meanwhile, he seemed to have temporarily forgotten about Drecas, who was still struggling feebly in the thick substance. " Rather unusual to see a ferret wandering 'round this neck o' the woods." His voice was careless and easygoing, but there was some hidden aggressiveness to it that only the wary could pick out. Argy's attention turned to Thornwort, which he had unsheathed and was examining the glint of the light that bounced off of the stainless blade. It was literally a wordless threat - "If you try anything funny, I'll kill you."A small note of panic in Drecas' voice brought the fox's attention away from his dagger and he immediately sheathed it, carelessly brushing aside more of his tunic to reveal the other four daggers that were sheathed underneath his belt - hidden and away from sight. Although the display only lasted for a second, he was sure that the ferret would have his chance to see it. " Aye, don't you worry, mate," he responded coolly, grasping the squirrel by the paw and turning to face Yongrui while feigning a bemused expression on his face. " It's going to take two beasts, y'know, at the rate he's sinking in." ooc;; shame on you two. The threat was quite clear, and the vermin got it quite well. Doing ohs best to ignore those annoying instincts that told him he stood no chance against this fox - and he really didn't, sadly - a greedy glimmer passed through Yongrui's eyes as he say the second display of the daggers. No doubt they would sell for a pretty penny or two. Of course, the problem would be getting to them. The creature didn't seem so eager to part with his daggers, but that was no problem, all he had to do was find a way to make the fox lower his guard. And that was through the squirrel. Hesitantly stepping forward towards the mud - he had no intention of sinking himself - Yongrui reached out a long hand, grabbing the male's furry arm. Squinting his black eyes and twitching his ear ever-so-slightly in an attempt to understand the two beasts - they were speaking so quickly, it was unfair - the ferret's face light up when he finally understood.
"Infilmany? Ya've infilmany herr?" Yongrui asked, his voice in the same slow drawl laced with curiosity. That was good to know, as long as treatment didn't cost to much money. Besides, who know what else they had here? Drifting into thought the ferret was brought back only as he replayed the fox's cold words in his head. Yongrui couldn't understand the full sentence, but he still smiled, small teeth glinting. "I traver.. New 'ere.." The male answered, hoping he said something intelligible. There was no need to guess at the squirrel's sentence, the tone of his voice was quite obvious. He wanted to get out.
Giving a weak smile to the fox, Yongrui felt a shiver crawl down his back, although the cold was likely a culprit as fear. After all, as long he kept on his nice and rather dim-witted facade he would be fine. He just had to remember not to anything suspicious, and eventually even the sharp fox would let down his guard. All he had to do was wait. "Leady?" The ferret asked, his tone lazy. He gave the squirrel another push, just for show, then waited for the duo's reply.

Drecas made sure he was secure and ready for rescue. "Yes, I think i'm ready." He tugged at his feet once more, just to make sure. The mud still gripped onto his sandalled footpaws, tight as ever. "Let's just hope I don't get anything dislocated while we're doing this, eh?" he said, with a nervous laugh. He hoped that both creatures' intentions were well-meaning; after all, he had been in a similar situation a year back, and the next thing he knew he was working for a rat camp for a month straight.

argyros silverfur || arctic fox || neutral -- Prince of Thieves [/sub] Unfortunately, the canine failed to see the greedy, smug gleam that flickered over the ferret's eyes as he bent over the struggling squirrel, who's voice was becoming steadily more panicked by the second. Yongrui wasn't exactly helping either. His constant stream of almost unintelligable mutterings was beginning to irritate Argy. What in the name of Thornwort is 'Infilmany' s'posed to mean? he thought dryly, cringing at the ferret's poor pronounciation. At least the beast could try and make himself look the least bit presentable, the fox added to himself, noting the grungy clothes that clung to the ferret's dark fur. Thus, he pretended not to hear Yongrui at all when Drecas piped up in his understandable form of english. The corner of his muzzle curved upwards in what he hoped was a friendly smile, but it instead turned into an ugly sort of smirk. " Don't you worry, sir. We'll have you out in no time," he said, still grinning eerily. Thus, he nodded to the ferret and, twitching his tail three times as if to keep a steady beat, the fox heaved on the squirrel's arm, hoping to unearth the poor creature from the depths in which he had accidentally fallen into. ooc;; believe me, I would've made it lots longer, but I honestly don't see how I could role-play Drecas being sucked out of the mud without powerplaying. =/[/blockquote]

The soft mud wasn't giving up its victim without a fight. It sucked noisily and angrily as Drecas was pulled further and further out of the mud. Eventually Drecas was back up to shin-deep in the mud, where he was able to free his feet and get back onto relatively dry land. He shook most of the mud off of his feet and sandals, and sat down on a rock to catch his breath.
"Thanks," the squirrel said when he had gotten most of his breath back, "I could've been stuck there for hours if you two hadn't found me." He hesitated for a second, before adding, "W-well, I must be going now, I'll have to change my clothes and plan my next attempt to get the gas from under these swamps..." Drecas paused, waiting to see if any of the two had any objections to his leaving.

Recu had been out to a nearby Vole family dwelling, gathering a book that had been borrowed from the library at the Abbey. Now, he was strolling through the forest, enjoying the sun and snow around him. it wasn’t often he got out of the Abbey anymore, and the assassin that still was in him would want to explore now and then.
Through the trees, he saw some movement, and froze, drawing his dark traveling cloak around him. Dropping his satchel to the ground, he uncapped his walking stick, revealing the flint blades underneath, and crept forward to see what it was. On sight of Drecas, the fox hid his weapon behind a tree, and rushed forward.
“Ye are covered in mud, yes. What happened, are ye alright? Ye are from yon Abbey, aren’t ye?”

"Don't worry about me," Drecas said, "Just got in a bit of a mess while searching for a little something... Yes, I'm from the Abbey. I'm the Infirmary Keeper there. Nice to meet you, though I'm not sure I quite recognise you."
He looked down at his footpaws again, and tried shaking some more mud from his sandals.

“”Tis good to meet ye. I am Recu, Librarian. Thank ye for helping him.” Recu nodded at the other fox and the ferret. “Come, we get ye cleaned at yon Abbey, yes?” Something didn’t feel right about the two beside them.
