Ah. Serenity was upon the Abbey today. Lazy days...even though lovely Redwall, in the middle of Mossflower, was being buried in snow. A white sheet all ready hung over the building, more was being added to the growing pile. At least the Pond wasn't completely covered in ice; the otters wouldn't like that much, now would they?
But I shall have to forbade the Dibbuns from going near the place thought a sandy-coloured fox, bending down near the reedy bank. poor creatures will fall in...freeze their ears off. Her own ears, massive in length, weighed down by many seasons past, were getting rather cold themself. Slowly, she shook her grey tinted head, scattering the snow that had piled upon her.
Her dark green robe wasn't enough in the chilling winter; the Bat-Eared fox was not built for the cold. Winds pierced through her frail body repeatingly until the elderly fox wrapped the long sleeves of her robe 'round herself. It helped...a bit. Oh, she would have to endure the fresh start of winter, for it was just that; the start. More was to come.
She sighed, straightening up, careful not to trend too close to the Pond. Gazing back at Redwall Abbey with deep pools of grey, she shook her head slowly; her routine of patroling the grounds wouldn't be interupted by a few grains of snow!
Dear me...I haven't a bite to eat in 'while the fox added inwardly, gaze returning to the Abbey longingly. Skipping a meal at her age? That wasn't healthy, oh no. Not much to do about it now, especially since she would not bother the cooks about making her something. No, she would wait like any other of Redwall.

Drecas wandered by, his sandals crunching in the snow. He breathed in the frosty air with some satisfaction. He loved winter. Nice and cool, and the pure white snow was always fascinating to him. He had been mixing potions for the Infirmary most of the day, and was glad to take a break whenever he got the chance.
He spotted the fox wandering the grounds. "Morning, Abbess Gale," the squirrel said, trying to strike up some conversation, "How're things keeping for you?"

"Mornin', mates! 'Specially you, Miz Abbess!" Aeorys' greeting was chorused by those of the Dibbuns, several of the babes swaddled 'til they appeared to be little more than colored balls of cloth. The she-wolf was decked in little other than her usual garb, and had it not been for the brilliant crimson muffler draped loosely about her shoulders, she would have blended invisibly into the snow. "Luvverly day, in--yow!" A snowball splattered on the back of her neck, and giggles erupted throughout the adolescent entourage. "All righty, which of ye liddle limpets chucked that, eh?"

"Yip!" the Abbess gave a tiny start, so obsorbed into her thoughts that she hadn't noticed the squirrel approach her. She was terriblely timid at times. Especially when she wasn't aware of her surroundings. Turning, she saw the squirrel standing there, recognizing him at once. "dear me, Drecas, nearly stopped my heart there!"
The edges of her forever smile twitched; a true sign of her grin. She reached out a thin limb and padded Drecas on the shoulder briefly. "Never you mind 'bout me. I'll soon wither up and blow away like the leaves in autumn. How are you? Anything eventful going on in the Abbey? 'Fraid I've been outside all day. Wouldn't know."
Before he could even answer, she strode forward in a brisk walk, beckoning to her fellow Redwaller with an outstretched paw from behind. A signal to join her in her little stroll. The sun was shining weakly, but it was still shining. And it was day. She had plenty of time to enjoy things, catch up on her social, forbid that she stopped to chat with the other creatures for awhile.
"I hope we stock up good for this winter, friend. It's all ready snowing; a sign that it will be long and full of white. Ohh!" the large-eared fox stopped, meeting with an approaching Aeorys, chased by Dibbuns. So many startles today. The corners of her mouth twitched again; never ceased to little with activity, Redwall did.
"Goodmorning to you too, Aeorys and young ones" she did a short bow, then straightened up, staring at the babes with a frown. "Tut...throwing snowballs is all good fun, but atleast try to throw them at a beast who can fight back. Aeorys wouldn't strike you Dibbuns, would she?"

Drecas tried to keep a straight face as the wolf was pelted with a snowball. Still being quite young himself he could see the funny side of this. "Good morning to you, too," He said, smiling, "Are you having a nice day so far?"
He looked down at the dibbuns, then back up at the wolf, adding, "I take it the dibbuns are healthy, too? Wouldn't want them to catch their death of cold out here, you know." He smiled, genuinely concerned with the dibbuns' health.

Managing a decidedly wicked grin, she replied, "Oh, aye, I wouldn't 'urt 'em none, Mis Abbess... I'd jes' 'and 'em over to me sis an' 'ave 'er stew 'em nice'n'slow so we could 'ave Dibbun potpies!" The little ones rolled about with mirth - it was almost impossible to imagine the kindly wolf cook plopping little babes into a vat of stew. The ex-bounty hunter could not supress a hearty chuckle herself as she picked up one of the younger ones, a little mole. "Nah, not with me around, Drec, don't ye worry about that. I'll wrap 'em in me own furs iffens I must - their mommas'n'poppas'd skelp me iffens they so much as sneeze."

"Yip, yip" the Abbess shook with laughter at the thought, holding back slight disgust for the vivid image of any beast being cooked in stew. "alas, I do not believe Dibbun Stew is on the menu, but..." she trailed off, gazing down at the babes with eyes gleaming. "if ye don't behave yourselves, it just might be there next time, hm?"
Her moment of amusement passed as she glanced back to the Pond, gesturing with it with her bushy tail. "Ah. Aeorys. The Dibbuns take kindly to you over any other beast. They cannot venger to that pond...the poor babes could fall in. Any other beast would be fine; but I worry for the young ones" she spoke in a low tone to the she-wolf. "it would be good help if you helped them understand they aren't being punished, per say..." the corners of her mouth twitched. "no, they love to wander everywhere. Being restricted is a bother to a young beast."
Straightening back from the she-wolf, Abbess Gale added in a louder tone. "So! I believe we have some visitors in the Abbey, do we not? I hear scurries of beasts that are not so frequent to come here. Who are they?"
