Top of The Mountain

It was a beautiful spring day with a slight breeze flying through the air and ruffling the leaves. There was still fog hanging around where the breeze didn't reach it. Denya looked down and tried to see the ship, but all he saw was the gray mist as it clung to the sea, and the wind trying desperately to pry it loose. He looked back up trying to see the top of the Mountain but to no avail. They were about a quarter of the way up. It had not gotten very steep and it was easy going. The mountain was very very tall and they had started at dawn and had made good progress. The fog was just starting to lift so they could see better. Denya looked down again and saw his ship moored in a small cove. It was just him and his first mate. Just then he heard a sound, he stopped and listened, he heard voices and they didn't sound like friendly voices either. Denya and Rayun his first mate got under cover in some bushes and waited for their guests to arrive.

They did in the form of six vermin. two stoats two ferrets and two rats. They were dragging along two prisoners they were two squirrels, one was about Denya's age and the other was older. The young maid was knocked out but the older one was still struggling. Denya looked at Rayun meaningfully, he gave a sharp nod and drew his saber. They both charged out of the bushes. The stunned vermin stopped in their tracks , then they drew their weapons and and grinned wickedly at each other more prisoners! That would be very helpful! Denya reached the first rat and swung his saber, it struck true and killed the rat. Rayun swung his sling and killed a stoat with one swing. Rayun took a wound to his right shoulder, when they had killed the other vermin Denya untied the old squirrel and lay him on the ground with his head on a haversack and gave him some water dribbling some down his throat, he then untied the squirrel maid. He laid her down with her head in his lap as he sat down and poured some water over her face trying to bring her around. She woke up sputtering looking very scared, she sat up suddenly and crawled over to the old squirrel she cradled his head in her lap as tears streamed down her face. Denya quietly stood up and walked over to her, he knelt down and put his paw on his wrist, no pulse. He looekd up at Rayun grimly he nodded and mouthed
" He's dead" Rayun looked sadly at the squirrel maid, he knelt down next to Denya and whispered to him.
" Should we take with us captain?"
" Yes if she doesn't have anymore family" He put a paw on her shoulder and pulled her into a standing position, " do you have anymore family, she silently shook her head, he nodded understanding.

Hours later

They worked their way further up the mountain after putting the maids father to rest, the climbing was getting steeper all the time. They then came upon a little cave in the mountain as he ducked inside Denya could tell it was occupied by some beast he looked around to see where the beast was but it was not in sight. He looked up suddenly as a small rock fell down from on top of the cave.

((Ooc: After checking the rules and chatting with Rorgus in the C-box, we decided that I would play Chibi, an NPC young otter. Although it was a character of Rorgus' idea, he asked me to play it and as long as I put Renny in, I believe everything is fine. And this thread was going to be before the GI plot thread as to not interfere with the story line and provide a previous friendship between Deyna and Renny.))


Chibi had watched two otters and a young squirrel maid come into his cave from his little perch. Why they came in there, he didn't know. All he knew was he didn't want them in there! Chibi's perch was a small rock ledge up by the ceiling. To get there he had to climb from small ledge to small ledge that would hold no more than his weight.

Thinking hard, Chibi swished hid rudder quietly back and forth upon the surface of the ledge, until it hit something. Looking around, Chibi saw the pile of small rocks and pebbles he had piled up here for defense purposes. Grinning evilly to himself, Chibi picked up one of the rocks and watched as one of the otters walked deeper into his cave.

With a quick flick of the wrist, Chibi dropped the stone near the large otter. The stone clattered to the ground near the otter causing him to look up. Chibi growled to himself. How could he miss? Reaching back fro a few more stones, Chibi brought out his trusty sling-shot. Now it was time for serious firepower! And with that he started shooting small pebbles and rocks at the otter.

Renaud Wildroar hummed a chippy little tune as he headed back up the mountain toward the cave. He had just caught a beautiful carp in the river that flowed out of the mountain and collected some left over Maple Sap from the winter. Lunch was going to be delicious, if Chibi ever sat still enough to eat it.

Looking down into the small cove, Renny could see clearly now that most of the morning fog had lifted. There was a vessel mored down there. Looking closer at it, the ship almost looked like a vermin vessel, but wait..it was too clean for that. And it looked renovated. Probably no harm, Renny thought.

As Renny approached the cave, he saw an otter and a squirrel maid standing at the entrance and heard the pinging of rock against rock. O', great, Renny thought to himself. What was Chibi doing now?

Renny had found Chibi last night when Chibi had tried to steal his supper. Having spent the night with the little otter, Renny had been more than willing to go out to find lunch.

Approaching the cave, Renny nodded to the otter and the squirrel maid as he passed them into the cave. The squirrel made looked rather distraught and the otter had a shoulder wound. Noting that, Renny reminded himself that after he took care of Chibi that he would help patch that up.

Upon entering the cave, Renny saw another large otter getting pelted with stones. "CHIBI!!!" Renny roared. Chibi giggled and loaded his sling one more time. "Chibi stap dat rig't naw! Aww!" A small stone collided with Renny's nose. Turning toward the other otter, Renny apologized. "Sarry mate. Chibi be a bit...annoyin'. Ah'll get 'im ta stop and if ye want ta stay fur lunc' and get yer mate patc'ed up dere. Just give mae a sec."

"Chibi! If yea dan't stap dere 'ill be na lunc'!" Renny said as he turned around and began to unpack the fish.

"Lunch!!!!!" Renny chanced a look behind him as a 6 year old brown furred otter in a tan jerkin with a brown rope belt lept from the ledge and landed on his back slamming Renny to the ground.

"Ofh." Renny groaned as Chibi got off his back and began picking through Renny's pack.

BIC: Denya looked a little surprised to another otter on the mountain. Especially a young one like Chibi. But before he could think about how unusual it was a stone hit him. Then another, the little otter was slinging rocks at him! He dodged most of them but one hit him squarely on the forehead with nearly enough force to knock him over. Then yet another otter came into the cave this one was quite a bit bigger than Denya. He was wearing a red jerkin and a cloak over it. He was carrying a big carp in one paw and a little pale with sap in the other. When he saw what was going on he then roared out.

"CHIBI!!!"

Chibi giggled and loaded one more stone into his slingshot and bounced it off of the otters nose.

"Sarry mate. Chibi be a bit...annoyin'. Ah'll get 'im ta stop and if ye want ta stay fur lunc' and get yer mate patc'ed up dere. Just give mae a sec."

Denya smiled and nodded, he had enjoyed being around young otters (when they were good anyway ) and could see that when this one calmed down a little he would a good little otter. Or so he hoped.

"Chibi! If yea dan't stap dere 'ill be na lunc'!"

That seemed to do the trick. Chibi was down in a second on top of the otters back who now lay flat out on the ground. Chibi began rummaging through the otters pack. Denya then stepped forward and lifting Chibi off his back he set him down beside and took the pack away.
"Now you need to learn to behave, and be nice to guests." He had delt with little otters like this before so he knew how to handle them.
" You just wait while our friend here makes your lunch."

Chibi started rummaging through Renny's pack when he felt a strong paw lift him upward. Struggling against the large paw, Chibi tried to break free. "Oh, let mea go..let me go!"

"Now you need to learn to behave, and be nice to guests. You just wait while our friend here makes your lunch."

Chibi was set gently on the floor and the pack taken away from him. Looking up into the eyes of the large otter he had been pelting stones at, Chibi looked as sincere as he could and nodded. But when the larger otter had turned away he stuck his tongue out at him making a silly face.

Feeling Chibi lifted off his back, Renny sat up gingerly. "Oooo..." He groaned, rubbing his back. "T'anks mate" he said to the large otter. "Naw if yer friends want ta cume in, ah'll work on a makin' lunc'."

Renny motioned for the two creatures that stood outside the cave to come in. he then proceeded to walk over to the remains of the fire from last night and began kindling the flame back to life. When it was sizable enough for cooking, Renny began preparing the fish and sauteing it with the Maple Sap.

"T'anks mate"

Denya nodded "no problem mate."

"Naw if yer friends want ta cume in, ah'll work on a makin' lunc'."

"Mmmm.. yes that does sound good. Rayun, Sarayel! You can come in." Sarayel giggled as Chibi stuck out his tongue and made faces at Denya's back. She had not seen any young otters up on this mountain and thought Chibi was adorable! They all sat down around the fire the otter had just made. Denya sniffed the pot that was over the fire, sweet aromas came out of it and he could tell it was going to very delicious.
" What is it?" He asked
" So whats your name? My name's Denya Wilrudder, this is Rayun and this is Sarayel. He motioned to the squirrel maid.

"Mmmm.. yes that does sound good. Rayun, Sarayel! You can come in."

Chibi watched as another otter and a squirrel maid came into the cave. He was a little wary of the new comers as he was of the large otter that told him to behave. But when squirrel maid laughed at his antics, he became more comfortable. In fact he started making more faces at Denya and becoming a bit bolder in trying to annoy him.

Renny sighed and rolled his eyes at Chibi. If Chibi wanted to pester Denya, then he would pay the price when Denya had enough.

" What is it?"

Renny looked up from his work. In the pot, Renny had been sauteing the carp in the sap, and on stones near the flames, Renny had been warming bisects.

Smiling, Renny replied. "Well, we gots some carp ah caug't, an ah'm sautein' it in some Maple sap ah found. Plus we gots some bisects o'er der and next ta da bisects be some herbs dat ah'll use ta 'elp patc' up yer mate der." He said motioning over to the other otter.

"So whats your name? My name's Denya Wildrudder, this is Rayun and this is Sarayel."

Renny smiled. "Ah'm Renaud Wildroar, an' dat" pointing over to the young otter, "be Chibi, just found 'im last nig't."

Finishing the cooking, Renny divided up the food and served it to his guests. When Chibi received his portion he dug in with a gusto.

Renny, grabbing his portion and his herbs and sitting next to Rayun, Renny smiled at him. "Naw dat ain't to bad, Ah can patc' dat up quic' as a wink."
