No. *shudder* No.
They have HORRIBLY messed up the book. I've decided to give it a chance but... They can't even get Cluny right! Guys, he is not brown! Shadow doesn't have red eyes. I didn't expect it to be perfect, but huge details like Cluny and the tapestry, you'd think they'd get it right, wouldn't you?
Agh. It just drives me nuts. I can understand if they don't show Skullface being crushed-it's a kids show. But... Instead of wasting time putting in false details like the boat tipping over, how about some real details like the detail that Matthias dropped his hazelnuts outside, and the funny line, "Sorry Father Habbit. I er, tripped on my abbot."
No! They completely wrecked it!
What do you guys think of the animated series?

They stink. They stink like a skunk stinks after you put him in a Limburger cheese factory for a couple of days, chop him up, shove his pieces into the over-full colon of a late vulture, and then let the whole festering pile sit in the endless, blaring sunlight of Methanus XII for three weeks.
Or, like Christopher Paolini stinks when he tries to write. Take your pick.*
Anyway, that's my two-cents worth.
*I would like to clarify that I am not open to arguing the literary value, or lack thereof, of Eragon. I will ignore any posts which choose to ignore this disclaimer.

Uhh, I'm fortunate enough to have never seen it first hand, but my friend THINKS he had to for a Redwall (the original book, not the world) , uh...can't remember the exact word, kinda like a semi-subject, or a subject within a subject. Anyways, all he remembers is that it was laughably bad and the otters had red and blue armour.
I am definitely glad to be clear of that, ter be honest.

The time that the series was on TV when I was younger was the only thing that inspired me to do my homework and not procrastinate. Loved that show, but now that I've read every book (except Doomwyte! ARG! *dies*), I go back to it for laughs, because I still love the soundtrack. And I'll choose to ignore that Eragon comment because I'm neutral for it.

I don't recall the series ever airing in Australia - quite alright, my childhood was occupied with video games and mostly Nickelodeon's Cartoons with football.
But I did have a gander about one or two years ago on Youtube, it's a kid's cartoon which is probably why it failed to keep me interested for much more than the first season. I only watched out of curiosity to be honest, probably because I'm not their intended audience.
The book's give me a much more mature impression really. The animation style and artwork was fairly good too - could've been worse.
There was a link to the video series on Youtube in our Links and Affiliates board too if anyone is curious.

Your right ash it could have been worse. I have only seen the first few episodes but one thing that drives me crazy is this. The otters don't talk! they make real otter noises instead of talking! it drives me crazy.

I watched the show a couple months ago out of curiosity. I didn't hate it, but I didn't like the fact that such great books had such cheap animation. The drawings were good, but the movements were generally slow, choppy, or repetitive. And then there were the constant continuity errors...characters appearing in random places, objects randomly shifting etc. The scoring was good, though. Overall I gave the series a B.

You have to remember that back when that television show was produced, it wasn't known just how much you could get away with in a kids television series, and Nelvana was always one to err on the side of caution. Anime was still just picking up steam, and the only really groundbreaking western animation at the time was Bruce Timm's stuff, like Batman The Animated series and later Batman Beyond. Later when shows like Spongebob Squarepants started touching on a lot of really risque elements, Justice League were in full swing and Anime was really starting to become both popular and mainstream here in the west, cartoons began to push more limits, and appreciation for good, solid cartoons was greatly expanded.
It is worth mentioning that the Redwall TV series, much as the novels before them got progressively better as they went on. I especially liked Martin the Warrior.
But most importantly, this TV series introduced a large number of children to the Redwall series in the first place, so that alone I think makes it worth it. I personally never would have given Redwall a second look if not for the animated series piquing my interest.
Also the music was good, and suited the series well.

I only watched the Redwall cartoon in its entirety recently and was not too impressed by it. However, they aired the episodes years ago on PBS Kids and the cartoon itself made me aware of the existence of the book series. Having no cable, it was the only cartoon I considered worth watching at that time, but kept missing it because I never reminded myself of when it was aired. Oddly enough, I didn't really start reading the series until some months ago. If it hadn't been for the cartoon, I would not have read the books unless I decided to check one out in a random browsing at my library and I would not be on LoRA.

WOW Yves!!! You said everything I couldn't put into words!!! (and Paolini is so unoriginal) Anyway... The animated series is soo messed up... mannn I don't know where to start..... Who was the funny circus lady who came in for one thing? Oh and those otters weren't in the book were they? They changed so much and I wish I could remember some of it. I only watched the first one, but so far it is rot! My brother liked it (he liked Eragon to), and I am not one to crush what some may consider talent, but I have my own unchangeable views on this subject... I mean it's cute for little kids who like talking animals and battles... And it's fine if parents want to entertain their children with a simple animation for a little while... But! For big kiddos like us (not to mention Redwall fanatics) we need the real thing!

Never, I imagine. The series ended years ago. The were going to do a fourth season with Mossflower but it was never realised.

Somehow I'm not sure that's going to work. Unless you could fund the project yourself or convince someone with the funds to, I doubt it's going to happen. Frankly if they made another Redwall series I'd rather they just restart and do it more accurately this time.
