Name: Sam Gideon
Gender: Male
Age: 15 human years or 60 Seasons
Species: Squirrel
Occupation: Assassin and a helper at Redwall Abbey. He is always willing to help those who need it at any time.
Physical Appearance: Sam is about 19 inches tall and 1.2 1 lb. He has blue eyes, and an unusual tail. His tail has half the fur missing on it because of a fight that he got in with his mom. She was yelling at him to go do the chores and he was so crazily tired, that he wanted to go to bed however his mom pushed him out the door and his bushy tail was caught in it. The fur on the top part of his tail was gone forever. When the door slammed on his tail, it automatically killed the nerves in the tail and hence the fur would never grow again.
Due to the embarrassment of the loss of hair, a rather acidic relationship has been developed with Sam and his mom over the years. However, like many squirrels Sam has managed to forgive and forget, and move on: for the most part. Like most squirrels Sam’s fur color is the natural brown that it should be. He’s short and stocky and always ready to put up a fight for fun. His tail is probably the most noticeable characteristic about him as I showed above.
As for clothes, Gideon has donned a tattered and worn out jacket that is frayed at the edges. Beneath it, he wears a red tunic that is brand new and made of fine material. He adores it the most out of all his possessions because his father gave it to him for his 15th birthday. He brings with him leather gloves that accompany him on whatever job he’s doing. To top it off he has an old belt that his dad gave him with a shiny silver buckle on it.
Possessions: Underneath his tunic he hides a simple silver chain. All it has on it is a ring to remind him of his life long friend Aruna that left Redwall to wander the woods and deserts. Sam has two daggers which he knows how to use quite well, along with a blade that he carries underneath his left shoe sole. He wedged it in their firmly so he can access it only when he needs to and so that it does not impair his walking.
Personality: Sam is respectful towards those he doesn’t know, even if they haven’t shown him any respect. However he does have a short fuse at times, and can hold grudges for years and years if he lets the offense dwell within his mind. Also, he obeyed his teachers at the Abbey school and excelled at most of the work that they gave him to do. He’s diligent, as mentioned in the last sentence he completed all his schoolwork on time, but he also worked out in the fields for his father on long hard nights. He tries to show everyone the respect that he thinks all his fellow animals deserve, no matter who they are or what their class is.
One of the unique characteristics about Sam is that he’s a great communicator with most people. Some one can bring up any topic at any time and he’ll know something about it, and can talk about it. This makes him relatively popular in the squirrel community, because he has many talents and a busy schedule. He seeks to better the Redwall atmosphere through hard work and perseverance. Often times he gets exceedingly frustrated when people refuse to listen to his ideas and can occasionally have a temper tantrum.
Strengths: He’s smart, and quick to learn when he’s not too tired. He’s relatively strong, and can lift more than thrice his weight at times, if he has the stamina and adrenaline to do it with. Sam is more than willing to work with others and is kind to everyone he meets, even vermin. Also, he has strong character and resists attempts at injustice by other parties, i.e. stoats, rats, weasels etc.
Weaknesses:
At times Sam can be very arrogant and proud; moreover he tends to brag about his achievements when he feels that he’s being attacked personally, instead of dealing with the problem by reasoning. Also, he has a streak of stubbornness in him and sometimes has a “my way or the highway” type attitude. This can be very frustrating to people and friends, who know their way is better than the highway. Sam can also become very covetous. He wants other people’s items sometimes and occasionally he might “borrow” them in his own words, with no intention whatsoever of returning them.
History: Sam the Squirrel has lived in a relatively large family for a long time. He’s always been a hard worker and does what his parents tell him to do. Yet, it still seems as if he’s been looked down upon because apart from his dad he’s the only guy in the family of 4 girls. But most of his life has been spent gathering nuts, fruits, berries, strawberries, and many other sorts of delicious entities and consuming them pleasurably. His family does love him and has shown it in the past. At times however Sam feels alone and sad because he doesn’t have many friends in Redwall Abbey. Most of the people in Redwall Abbey are friendly to him, but it seems that most of them haven’t bothered currently to take an interest in him. This doesn’t stop Sam from trying though. Every day he is looking for a friend who might become a lifelong companion. This quest has been only going on for 1 season because, Sam’s family originally came from MossFlower and then they heard about the grand delights of Redwall and they decided to migrate. He was only a baby squirrel at the time and he still can’t remember a thing.
It’s been at least 16 seasons or so that they’ve been living at Redwall, but as I’ve shown above Sam has only been interested in finding a friend for the past season. The Redwall library has kept him very busy with all sorts of materials to study and read over. He loved reading books so much that many of his fellow Redwallers stayed wary of him, because they didn’t want to agitate him. Onetime when Sam got very angry with a mole he actually bopped him one in the nose, sending him sprawling!! Until 1 season ago he was not interested at all in friends because the reason listed previously was a prime example to him how friends were cumbersome. Why become friends with other Redwallers if they only irritate you and betray you? So for the longest time books had been his only friends, along with his dad and old squirrels that he occasionally visited in Mossflower. But now he is determined to make friends with someone. Sam is determined that he can accomplish anything if he sets his mind to it!
Relationships: He lives in a large squirrel family of 7, and has many friends outside of Redwall Abbey. In fact, he formed his own squirrel clan at one point and he was the leader of this clan, making him fairly popular. Of course he has a great relationship with his mom and dad, and he wants to form one with the Abbot of Redwall, and many other friends inside it.
