Name: Aspen Woodleaf
Nickname(s): N/A
Gender: Female
Age: 26
Species: Albino Squirrel
Occupation and Home: Warrior, Redwall Abbey
Physical Description:
General- Aspen Woodleaf is a well-muscled, wiry squirrel with pearl-white fur and glowing coral pink eyes, though nobeast knows if they are truly pink or red, for nobeast has ever gotten close enough. Her nose is moist and black, and her claws are sharp as spikes and black like jet-stones. She has a huge, curling, smooth furred snowy white tail, and her legs are long and like coiled springs that she can use to climb into tree branches or onto the abbey roof. She carries no weapon in the abbey, but she has a huge hickory longbow and a quiver of arrows that she carries in battle. The string is tight twine, polished roughly but well with a coat of beeswax. She wears a simple brown leather cloak, nothing fancy, that she uses to disguise herself on the ground.
Possessions:
Bow and arrows- Huge hickory longbow and a quiver of arrows, with a string of tight twine, polished roughly but well with a coat of beeswax.
Personality: Aspen Woodleaf’s personality can range from kind, to stubborn, to angry, depending on which situation she’s in. A courageous fighter and a strong warrior. She detests vermin and will do anything to kill them, but she loves small creatures and goodbeasts and will protect them with her life. She can read, and write, and she can also read badger script but it takes her a long time to decipher the letters and she gets distracted easily.
Strengths:
Excellent Archer- A well-skilled archer with a lot of knowledge about how to fire a bow, and she is a good teacher to others who want to learn the skill if they are goodbeasts.
Weaknesses:
Swords- She hates using swords and is horrible at wielding them; given the choice of running or fighting a vermin with a sword, she would choose running.
Groups- Aspen prefers to be left alone instead of traveling in a group-she gets ticked off easily and others don't help that problem.
History: Aspen Woodleaf was born at Redwall twenty six years ago. When Cluny attacked, she was one of the woodlanders trained in the way of the bow, and from then on has been practicing; shooting set-up targets and vermin alike, apples from trees and flowers growing in the fields near the stone building.
Anyways, at the age of seventeen, she got a little more adventurous, and in the dead of night, slipped out of Redwall Abbey to live on her own in the wilds. She lived off streamwater, roots, and the occasional berry or bird she shot out of the skies. But her first encounter with vermin came only seven days into her exploration.
She had just killed a bird and ate it, and was preparing to leave the campsite. Turned out that a small group of roughly fifteen vermin had smelled the cooking. The leader, a mangy-furred fox with a missing eye, came out and confronted her. ‘Give us ye’re food, treecrawler and we won’t hurt you…much.’ All the vermin eyed her, drawing scimitars and cutlasses from their belts, along with one or two daggers.
In a short time, the peaceful woodland area had turned into a scene of chaos. Aspen had taken her bow out and slew a ferret with an arrow through its neck. It toppled over with a startled gurgle and two more arrows shot into the air, one entering a stoat’s chest and the other going through a fox’s stomach. After a while of fighting, just she and the leader remained. A fight ensued, but the squirrel came out on top, plunging an arrow through the enemy’s throat.
After the experience, the squirrel became an unstoppable killer. She hunted for vermin for years, eliminating gangs and entire armies by picking them off one by one. Then one year she was caught by a gang of ten rats. They stole her bow, arrows, and food. And then one day, a year after, a year of being beaten, starved, and forced to work as a slave, she escaped her chains at night and strangled every rat before stealing her bow and leaving for Redwall Abbey. Now she is back at Redwall, ready to defend the place if need be, ready to sacrifice her life doing what she liked the most-killing vermin. She does a variety of odd jobs at Redwall-helping with the bellringing, fishing, cooking, and anything else that needs doing.
