Sargeant Gorsebloom was on sentry duty this night. He had relieved a young hare at about dusk. He was leaning against the wall, eating a fresh apple. Gorsebloom hated night sentry duty.
"All the sensible hares are abed at this hour. Hmphh." He would hate for his superiors to hear him complaining, but that was the soldier's right.

Trickio Rampbrush was in a grumpy mood. She was walking beneath the ramparts of Salmadastron, scowling as the cold wind buffeted at her again. With an irritated sigh, she glared upwards.
Not entirely thinkgin of what might happen if someone actually heard her, she yowled up to the ramparts, "If any o' you beasts're in there, the idea of openin' up for a freezin' traveler e'er occur to you?!"
Not that she had actually knocked on the massiv gates or anounced her presecne yet, but Trickio was able to overlook that fact in her irritation at the wheather. "Hmpf!"

As Gorse was grumbling, he saw a creature come into his vision. "Oi, who goes there?"

The shrew glanced up, mildly surprised but un willing to show it. In stead she called back in her gruff voice, "Trickio Rampbrush, Guosim Land Scout, Supreme Bragger on the River Moss, and Fastest Port-Side Paddler, if you must know! Who're you, then, and are ya' gin' ta' let me in?!"

Gorsebloom smiled down at the shrew. "Well, of course I'll bally well let you in." He climbed down the steps to the large entry hall and slid the bolt back that held the doors closed. He grabbed the handle and pulled with all his might. Once the doors were open Gorsebloom bent over to catch his breath. "Whooooo..., those doors are heavier than a badger on top of a boulder wot! I'm Colour Sargeant Gorsebloom Braggwuth Sinistra the second." Gorse stuck out his hand with a smile.

Jumping in past the doors, Trickio shook the hare's paw heartily .Her mood was uddenly miraculously restroed now that she was out of the wheather. She immiediately started talking and chattering at length. "Nice ta' meetcha, Sarge. Oi, isn't food time 'ere, 'er do ya' hares eat later then others? Nah, from wot I know of yew lot, ye've got yerself some o' the finest cooks 'ew've ne'er 'ad a loaf o' shrewbread. Any'ow, need 'elp gettin' those doors closed? I'm no log-carrier by profession but I've got enough strength ta' pull me own weight. Oi, not boring ya', am I?"
By some incredibly force of nature Trickio had stopped talking. All in all, she was feeling almost frightfully cheery and set about closing the doors with a will to assist Gorse.

A voice rang out from outiside. " Ach, can Ah come in, or are ye too busy?" It was a massive black hare, tall but well built, with a broadsword in a sheath strapped horizontally across her back. She wore a long black tunic, with a black, broad belt around her waist, and dangling from it was a medium sized red pouch, and a water flask. The hare's ear tips were snowy white, and she had a long scar, which ended at her nose, running down between her green eyes.

Gorsebloom was astonished by the amount that the shrew talked. He knew some champion talkers in his time, but none the likes of this one. He took a liking to her immediately. " Well thank ye kindly marm." When he heard the black hare's voice he jumped because he didn't know where it had come from. He searched about looking for any signs of movement.

Trickio sighed dramatically and grumbled, "An' we just closed the blinkin' door!". Having said so, she put her back into it and began dragging the thing open to pop her head out and glance around. "Oh, there ye' are. Sure, 'urry up, this things 'eavy...nice ta' meetcha, welcome ta' Salamandastron, who're ya? Look tough, I'll give ye' that, an' my name's Trickio Rampbrush, Supreme Waterfall Diver Ever to Sail the Eastern Sea..."
Already the gruff shrew was welcoming in people as though she lived in the mountain. She was pleased to be out of the wheather and more so to have met two new people who looked like they wouldn't be sticks in the river mud.

It took Gorsebloom a moment, but then he realized who this hare was. Trying to spare him some embarrassment however he played it like he knew who she was the whole time. " Well ya know raiding the larders as usual wot."
