Tessa is covered in dark fur, with hardly any variation throughout. Her sleek body is a very dark brown from the top of her head to the bottom of her footpaws and down her rudder. Her eyes are also a dark brown, almost black. She has a rather slight figure compared to other otters, with a shorter stature and a thinner build.
Tessa has her own unique sense of style, choosing to dress in gypsy-style clothing. She is usually seen in flowing clothing of purples, blues and greens, accented with jewelry of bright and eye-catching gold. Her small ears both have gold loop earrings dangling from them and she also wears several bangle bracelets and anklets.
Possessions:
Tessa carries almost all the tools of her trade as a healer. She habitually carries with her myriad herbs, various concoctions and bandaging, as well as a huge variety of tea leaves, which serve a double-purpose in both her healing and fortune-telling. At night she keeps a black cloak with her, which when it covers her bright clothing, makes her nearly invisible with her dark fur. She also always has a blowpipe with her, which is usually paired with a least a few darts.

Tessa has a tendency to march to the beat of a different drum. Although a bit socially awkward, the ottermaid is extremely friendly and enjoys the company of others. Sometimes she appears a little overeager to make friends, but she always has the best intentions. Tessa is easy to get along with, but the awkwardness comes in because she tends to daydream and then voice her thoughts, which can be a tad bizarre at best.
Despite her eccentricities, Tessa is extremely intelligent. She is positively masterful with all manner of puzzles and can solve difficult mathematical problems quickly in her head.
Although she carries a blowpipe, Tessa is a peaceful beast, but she wouldn't go as far as to call herself a pacifist. She is very supportive of the warriors of her clan, which include much of her family. Warriors will need someone to tend to their injuries, after all. Even though she is a genius at mixing various potions and salves for her healing, the skill also extends to her ability to make dangerous and deadly poisons. She's never considered using the dangerous mixtures herself, though she has made them as a last-resort weapon with which to tip arrows and darts for the clan's warriors.
Tessa, aside from her position as a healer, also fancies herself a fortune-teller. It's difficult to tell, however, if she actually believes any of her fortunes, or anything of that nature at all. Her eccentric behavior coupled with her joy for fortune-telling tends to alarm newcomers, but her actions are generally accepted by, and even amusing to, most of her holt. Tessa has dabbled in casting stones and tarot cards, but her real knack lies in reading tea leaves. Many of her medicines are made into herbal teas, and consequently, she'll end up reading the tea leaves of her various patients, whether they want her to or not.

Tessa Solanum was born, raised, and spent her entire life on the island of Green Isle far in the Western Sea. She was born to a chieftain of a small otter clan in the luscious and beautiful vale of Holt Summerdell at the northern fringe of Green Isle. Her clan is part of a tightly-knit alliance of other clans in the Summerdell area, which itself is part of a larger alliance among the peaceful clans of the island at large. Tessa is the youngest and only female of her siblings. She has four older brothers, all of them strong and accomplished fighters like their father.
It was clear at a young age that Tessa was not like the rest of her family. She expressed a distinct disinterest in learning of fighting and weaponry, grasping a strange interest, instead, in mixing up potions and making her own eccentric jewelry and accessories. Her parents and her brothers were generally supportive of her different lifestyle, although it still made her a bit of an outsider in her own family.
In her early teens, Tessa decided to travel through Green Isle. Since the ottermaid was independent enough as it was, and the island was by and large a peaceful place, they allowed her to go off on her own. Tessa was gone for over a year, meeting many different clans around the island, some far more accepting of her than others, but all of them taught her something. It was on this trip where she learned all different healing techniques and the many different uses for the assorted plants and herbs that grew on the island. She also collected plants along the way that didn't naturally grow in Summerdell. It was also from one of these clans where she learned to master a blowpipe.
Upon returning, she was quickly accepted as an adept healer after showcasing her skills on a number of impromptu occasions. She also put together her own medicinal herb garden made up of local plants and more exotic varieties from the southern cusp of the island. She also tends a very eclectic tea garden which she uses both medicinally and recreationally. Although extremely protective of her medicinal garden, she allows anyone to use her tea leaves.
Tessa has never been off on Green Isle. Her two eldest brothers decided about a year ago to sail off for an adventure, with the promise they'd return one day. Her two younger brothers had their ambitions closer to home, both of them widely believed to be clan chieftains one day. Although curious about the lands far from the island, the ottermaid has no pressing desire to leave her homeland.
