Nicknames/Aliases: Wood Virtuoso/Nimblepaw
Gender: Male
Age: 23
Species: Mouse
Occupation: Wood Crafter Extraordinaire
Physical Appearance:
General-- When you take stock of Roland at a glance you notice right away his burly physique; years of whittling and crafting wood have made him so. A deep auburn coat adorns most of his body and gives off a burgundy shine in the sun. Folded around his waist there is a curved tail of light velvet hue. Upon inspection of his thick paws you will find deep calluses that have come from tireless work as a craftmouse. Attached to his right ear there is tiny ring of bright silver. Crooked whiskers and orphic black eyes stand out most on young Roland's face, taking after his father.
Attire-- Roland is very fond of the color red which is often the hue of his many jerkins, tunics, and habits. He is also partial to earth tones of green and brown. One article of clothing he never leaves the cottage without is his durable leather belt with an oblong buckle. In cases of bone-chilling cold or harsh autumn winds, Roland wraps himself with a reliable cloak of bold crimson. Depending on the season Roland will equip variations of warm bark shoes or airy sandals
Possessions:
Roland does not have much in terms of material goods, apart from a damaged cutlass his father found and the clothes on his furry back. What Roland can claim is his personalized woodcrafting kit. Inside a tightly folded parcel is everything Roland needs to skillfully shape all types of wood:
- Chisels
- Mallet
- Sharpening Stones
- Gouge Sharpener
- Rasp
- Whittling Knives
Personality:
Roland can be classified as a perfectionist. No matter what he's doing, the task at paw has to be completed with the utmost diligence and proficiency. If something isn't right, it must be redone again until it gets Roland's approval. His father recalls a time when Roland produced a rocking chair in a fortnight! On more than one occasion, Roland's tools had to be taken from him in order to prevent exhaustion.
Due to his bizarre trait, Roland acquired an innate sense of patience. Taking life in strides, Roland sees a goblet of strawberry cordial half-full instead of half-empty. He values honesty, wisdom, friendship, and most especially humor. Nothing brightens up his day more than the laughter of friends and family. Though it is easy to converse the young mouse, it is much more difficult to keep his attention. Most subjects are rather boring unless they contain elements of treasure, woodcraft, or high adventure. Roland does however admire constructive criticism if it means improving his work or his manners.
All work and no play make Roland a dull mouse. When he can spare a moment away from his devotion to perfection, Mossflower is where he turns to. The way the sun leaks through the canopies or the hidden mysteries behind every shrub and bush create a spellbinding world that Roland obliges to rather hedonistically. With his compulsion to accomplish great things, the carmine colored mouse is always seeking to live a prodigious life.
Strengths:
Wood Crafting: The ability to construct, replicate, shape, build, repair and alter anything having to deal with wood is Roland's most pristine strength; honed over many seasons of diligent work with his father.
Public Relations: Meeting new creatures and discussing a wide range of topics are as easy as eating a whole serving of apple pudding. A better conversationalist or diplomat in his village, there is none.
Weaknesses:
Perfectionism: Striving to emulate his father in every way, Roland has developed a rather unhealthy addiction to his trade. When given a commission, Roland will devote all his energy and time to see that the job gets done accordingly. This is not limited to only his work and in fact overrides the very foundations of his attitude and philosophy. Impervious to nourishment and rest, Roland must sometimes be forced to stop when things get out of hand.
Poor Warrior: Though mighty he may look, Roland has yet to participate in any skirmish to date. The seclusion of his village coupled with Bandilow the Badger's frequent trading in Mossflower have provided staunch protection from confrontations with vermin. The only weapon of war Roland has is the damaged cutlass given to him by his father. How to wield it, Roland has yet to figure out.
Illiterate: Roland's family have been in the woodcrafting business for many a season. There was never any need to know how to read and so, it was never taught to them. As Roland matured, he found that his inability to read became something of a hindrance as he sought to answer many questions of the world. His father only knew so much and what he didn't know was left as an enigma. Many take such a privilege for granted.
