Gender: Male
Age: 17
Species: River Otter
Occupation: Redwaller / Otter Crew
Physical Appearance:
Oliden is an otter of a burly physic. He has downy, caramel-brown fur with a off-white muzzle, neck, chest, belly, and fingers and toes. He stands at a good height, usually looming well over smaller creatures in the abbey. He's muscular, but not bulging with strength, and posses wide shoulders and athletic-looking arms. His eyes are a rich, dark amber and are usually rounded with innocence. His most distinctive attire is that of a beige, almost white tunic with a velvety brown belt-and-buckle and a small, sharp dagger installed between his tunic and his belt. The sleeves of his tunic come down just above his elbows and the end of the tunic just about mid-thighs.
Possessions:
A sturdy, mid-length spear tipped with a sharp, steel point. He uses it mostly for fishing, but will also use it for battle need be.
Personality:
Oliden is the type of otter who will go through great lengths to see that his family and friends are all safe and sound.
He's a jolly fellow and is usually quick to make friends with garrulous hares and other friendly or humorous beasts. With that said, he's usually the one to tick off strict Brothers and Sisters, his only competition being hares and Dibbuns.
He's a bit clumsy and irresponsible, especially in the presence of a pretty female. He's as dense as can be and just as thick headed. He stumbles over his words when he's infatuated, just as often as he does over his own feet.
But he's smooth and swift with a blade, which gives the otter reason to puff out his chest and take rank in the Otter Crew.
Strengths:
Oliden is nimble with small weaponry such as daggers, short spears, and knives. He channels swiftness and speed with small, sharp weaponry.
In terms of personality, Oliden seldom takes insults to heart. He may ponder over them for a while if spoken by a fellow Abbey dweller, but if he's getting a tonguelashing from a villain, he will lash back twice as hard. As jolly as he may usually be, he's got quite the knack for offensive wording. He would never say such insults in front of a Dibbun, though. He tries to be the best role model that he can.
He's also a pretty good singer. He does so usually when he's fishing or doing chores at the abbey.
Weaknesses:
Oliden has a blood-curdling fear of drowning. He loves to swim, but if his ankle ever gets caught in seaweed or he encounters a dangerous beast underwater, he will set into panic mode by ten fold. That being said, if there's ever a storm brewing and thunder is clapping in the grey-lined sky, the young otter will be more than hesitant in taking a swim.
He's also fairly useless if having to haul around big battle equipment like massive swords, axes, or flails and whatnot
Oliden also believes in "second chances", much like his cousin, Shad Streamdog. This will often backfire against him when vermin whom he believes have earned a second chance betray him and use his innocence against himself and other creatures. He doesn't hate vermin as much as other Redwallers.
History:
Oliden was born in Redwall Abbey during peaceful times with a few, close Dibbun friends. The young otter was also a catch with the older members of Redwall at the time who constantly babied him and carried him around like he was their own babe.
Just about the time he was learning how to speak properly and losing his Dibbun tongue, he and the other young'uns went off into the Redwall pond. Oliden, who'd been taught how to swim already by his father, wanted to show off to the other Dibbuns and swam far into the pond. Unfortunately for him, one of the rather large fish in the pond decided he'd make as a good snack. His father had been looking for the sneaky Dibbuns at the time, limping with a broken leg from an earlier scuffle with some vermin, and arrived just in time to save Oliden from the fish, but lost his own life in the process.
Growing up, Oliden never stopped grieving. Even when his mother had decided to move on, he was always nagging himself in the back of his mind. Once he was old enough to handle a spear, one that once belonged to his father and was given to him by his mother, he went into the pond and single handedly took down one of the large water dwellers. Even if it wasn't the fish that had drowned his father, he knew that there was one less fish to worry about and a bunch of stuffed tummies the following supper.
With his revenge over and done with, Oliden has started to move on from baring the grief of his loss. He's still very touchy on the subject, but remains light and still contains a sense of humor like he always has.
It's been seasons since he struck his revenge. He's grown into a seasoned young waterdog and holds his position in the Otter Crew with great dignity. These past few seasons have been a breeze for him and he spends a lot of time with his mother, the only remaining member of his family who now watches over Dibbuns when she isn't helping the Friar cook.
