Post by Jinn Poleblade on Jun 15, 2008 14:04:18 GMT -5
Name: Jinn. He introduces himself as Jinn when he must, but the vermin have taken to calling him "Poleblade".
Gender: Male
Age: 24 years. (Early adulthood)
Species: River Otter
Occupation: Roving mercenary, though he is a passable smithy.
Physical Appearance:
At first glance, Jinn would appear to be a madbeast. (And in fact, you'd be right!) His heavily-muscled body is criss-crossed with scars, and a few indigo-ink tattoos adorn his sleek muzzle, mainly tribal designs with a stylized sea-bird marking spanning his eyebrow ridge.
The fur on his back his a deep chestnut, with his chest and belly a slightly lighter shading of tan. His dark eyes may seem to have a slightly hazel hue in the sunlight.
In the matter of clothing he is not picky. He wears a pair of loose barkcloth breeches, and from time to time may adorn his torso with a vest of a similar sack-cloth material and hue. For adornment he may occasionally affix a single hoop earring to his right ear, preffering his tattoos to any ornaments that may be torn out in a fight. When not wearing the earring he affixes it to his polearm.
Possessions
Jinn's only posession, other than his clothing and the single bronze earring, is a bardiche-like polearm fashioned of strong ironwood and steel. (Image of a bardiche: www.aurorahistoryboutique.com/products/R000289_L.jpg )
Personality:
Although he is an otter, his brain is corrupted and he is quite mad. His temper flares and his moods change quicker than thunder following lightning. He is very gruff and not much given to emotional sentiments, although this is perhaps to hide and protect the soft center that remains of a once-sweet otterbabe. However he is not aware of such a remnant of his previous life, so will adamantly and honestly deny such an accusation. When an argument is to be had, his favorite way of settling it is with his polearm, but in many ways he has not socially advanced beyond the otterbabe state, which may justify his behavior.
His friendship is easily won with large ammounts of good food and drink. His heavy body requires much in the way of food to keep him happy.
Strengths:
Jinn's main strength is the physical prowess of his body, and the mind of the madbeast that allows him to drive it fearlessly.
Weaknesses:
His main weakness is the berevity of his temper. If he is upset, he will let you know with a heavy clout over the head. This tends to get him into a lot of trouble in civilized society. He is also a very simple beast, mentally retarded in many ways that make him seem no more than an overgrown babe tending to throw frequent and violent tantrums.
History:
As a youngling scarcely more than dibbun age his mother and father took him to a small encampment of goodbeasts near a wide river, gathered to celebrate the coming of summer. All manner of beasts were in attendance, mice and voles, and the occasional sea otter. They all delighted in the smiling, shy otterbabe, especially the elder mothers who had seen children of their own grow and leave.
Unfortunately goodbeasts were not the only sort among the woodlands that day. A goodly company of roving vermin led by a great wildcat fell upon the encampment, stealing all they could and leaving nobeast behind to tell of their coming. Both his parents were slain, his mother hiding him with her body so that perhaps he would be spared. The long hours spent trapped beneath the body of his dying mother, nearly asphyxiating beneath her weight and the cloying scent of her blood all around him, broke the poor babe's mind.
In time another band of goodbeasts came by. Appalled at the piles of dead and the ruined encampment, they went about burrying those they could. When they approached the bodies of the two river otters, they were met by a fiercely gibbering otter child who tried to stop them, not understanding that they were trying to help. He tried to fight them away from the bodies of his parents, his injured mind seeing them as foebeasts coming to hurt them again. Eventually the number of goodbeasts trying to take him away from his parents became too much for the child, and he bit at the hands holding him until they released him. Immediately he fled into the woodlands...
...Where he was picked up by a group of vermin. They laughed at the tiny half-starved otter, growling ferally through it's tiny tears. When a rat came to kick him away from the tent circle, the little otter promptly sank his teeth into it's filthy footpaw. At that point the rat wanted to kill the youngling, but its comrades had other plans. A collar was slapped on the pitiful child, hastily made from a strong cord belt, and he became their pet.
Over time the child grew to trust them. They fed him, taught him to fight with fang and claw, built his strength. He began to delight in their simple ways, and in his own power, happily engaging in the mock-battles between vermin to prove strength.
He grew into a fine strong otter, but his broken mind associated the vermin as goodbeasts, and the goodbeasts who had tried to help him previously as dirty creatures who had tried to steal his parents from him and then chased him off into the woods to die.
From that time on, he lived to take revenge on the creatures who stole his family;
Which made him a valuable ally to vermin seeking plunder and blood...
Relationships:
His parents are dead, but he once belonged to Holt Greenstone. He has come to Mossflower with a band of rouges split from a greater vermin horde: a mute seer and two others who followed her. (More details will be available when said seer and the others join the forum. >< We made a plan to join, and I just happen to be the first one here. >.>; )
Other
Just to make sure this is clear: Jinn is an otter, but mentally... er retarded for lack of a better word, and believes goodbeasts to be bad, and vermin to be good. He blames them for taking his parents from him as he did not understand that they were dead.
