Name: Banwurt Violanus Gender: Male Age: 22 Species: European Rabbit Occupation: Heir to the leadership of the Violanus Warren.
Physical Appearance: Banwurt is a rabbit of curiosity which shows in his attentive brown eyes. At average height for a buck of his species, Banwurt's build would be considered lithe, covered in an orange-brown coat with a white underbelly that extends up to his chin and his left ear from base to tip also white. He wears a simple dark green tunic and cloak with various belts and a rigged bandolier with many pockets to store various herbs he aims to find, medicinal equipment such as bandages, fine thin scissors, and a small knife suited for simple wilderness and harvesting. He does try to keep scrolls, ink, and quills in his belt pockets to log new plants he comes across as well as various notes for references (claimed to his parents it was for mapping his way to try and help his ease return). Otherwise the leftover bag spaces are left for supplies, with space for tying on a flask on one of his waist belts.
Possessions: Knife: A small harvesting knife for roots and branches.
Flask: Normally filled with water.
Supply Belts: The first rigged bandolier over his shoulder holds four small pockets and two leather ties for supplies (planned for herbs as he goes). The one about his waist holds another six pockets, though two of the six are larger than the others and rest at his hip, one at either side. The smaller pouches carry the medical supplies such s bandages, needle and thread, small scissors for cutting the long bandage cloth. Otherwise the larger bags hold provisions, leaving space for odds and ends.
Personality: As the eldest of his siblings as well as the heir to one day take over the Warren from his parents, Banwurt was raised with a strong will to succeed, as well as a firm mind. He is rather laid back in general and seems to be rather open-minded about many things in life (which has gotten him into many problems with his parents and how he 'should' be). He has a rather low self esteem about his own actions and often second-guesses himself, though he does hold a strong desire to please and impress others (particularly that of his parents) as well as holds close and supports what is to be of good morals, to the point he will act out against ill-will against other beasts if he can. He enjoys supporting others in what they choose to do if it seems like it will make them happy which has gotten him in a lot of trouble for indulging in his sister's fantasies. Banwurt does hold a bit of his own courage and bravery aside from his more day-dreaming habits when he is allowed them, he just often has to be reminded of it.
Strengths: Medicinal Skills + Herbalism: Plants fascinate him and not just how one goes about growing them but also the many uses plants can have. This has led him to want to study under those who worked in the infirmary but he never was brave enough to inquiry on his own, so instead picked up what he could where he could and would practice growing up on willing siblings.
Morality: While a bit of a push over from time to time, Banwurt does have morals and values he holds dear and will build up courage to stand up for them. Mind he has no skill to defend such beliefs but he is not afraid to at least try, firmly believing trying at least is better than nothing (even if it takes a bit to talk himself up to it).
Weaknesses: Navigation: Banwurt is quite literally unable to navigate himself out of a satchel. If the rabbit is not careful he would get himself lost in the warren despite pacing the tunnels many times throughout his life and often would require a bit of assistance in getting where he needs to go. One can only imagine how bad this will be in any other setting.
Willpower: While usually quite firm in his beliefs and actions once he has a goal, until then Banwurt is very uncertain of many things (particularly in himself but sometimes also an overall outcome). Because of this in the right situation Banwurt easily can be dissuaded from anything, or be dominated over from more forceful personalities.
Tidiness: Banwurt was raised that appearances mean everything, to the point he frets constantly about his own appearance. It is fine if you are alone and happen to get dirty so long as you get clean before someone sees you. Tears need to be mended as quick as they can be, so minor detailing was picked up as a child and practiced to this day (as it is a lot easier to stay tidy – not to mention he had to fret over his siblings for the same things).
History: Banwurt Violanus is a descendant of the rabbits who fled Mossflower in the time of Lonna Bowstripe. The eldest born of seven kits to a warren close to the River Moss, north of Salamandastron, he immediately was set with classes to take over the position from his parents one day who ran it. The warren was full of traditional rabbits, so it was only the proper thing to want to do what his parents expected out of him growing up. As his siblings were born after him and he was held responsible in assisting with their up-keeping, Banwurt quickly became obsessed in how they were dressed and appeared around their parents, knowing they would be sore about it.
Banwurt's confidence suffered greatly over the years as any time he wanted to do something of his own interest it was crushed in favor of the warren he would one day lead and be responsible for. Many traditional classes in how to lead, and going through every step his father took in keeping everything running smoothly bored Banwurt but for their approval he would go through the motions. He would prefer however to just do modest things, or lay back and enjoy the weather on most days.
However one day he was out with some fellow bucks his own age harvesting when they were caught in a storm before they could make it home (despite Banwurt's habit of getting lost just in their own home, the small group thought it best that he would know where to go when he was not sure). He was able to get them to the river, but lightning struck a tree and caused a branch to fall. One of the bucks did not get out of the way in time and was caught under it. While it did not kill him it did break his leg where he had been caught.
Managing to at least get the party to calm down, Banwurt got them to assist him in helping make something to stablize the buck's leg to keep it from bending. Once a make-shift splint was constructed from sturdy branches they cut down and belts many of the bucks wore, another rabbit took the reigns of the party to follow the river properly to get them home where the wounded one was able to be taken to the infirmary. For the first time an elder complimented Banwurt for having the sense enough to keep the others leg from bending and even complimented the use of what they had to make the splint. It was enough that Banwurt felt pride for what he had accomplished and made the mistake of expressing this to his parents. Because of his future it was deeply discouraged he not pursue such things and to leave the medical fields to the professionals.
This brought Banwurt to supporting his siblings' dreams instead since he did not dare go against his parents' wishes for him. It was why Heartsease found an attentive listener to her dream of becoming a member of the Long Patrol, as well as someone to support her in it. While Banwurt did agree with their parents that only hares could join the Long patrol, it did not mean it was a worthless dream for Heartsease, and it would be a waste to force her otherwise because who knew? Even if she could not get into the Long Patrol, following that dream would teach her a lot about life, right? With Timothy Highleap, an old squirrel who lived near the warren, teaching her with Banwurt often sent to observe in stead of their parents, Banwurt found himself with more time to be able to secretly poke and study plants in the nearby woods during the many days of training his sister went through.
After having heard of the little things Banwurt did medical wise to help others out when he could, even if it risked getting back to his parents (and an over-energetic telling of the day he was out in the storm), the old squirrel gave Banwurt an old log of plant lore that could be found about Mossflower to help gently encourage the uncertain buck. He of course kept this in secret, just as he did with Timothy's encouraging of his sister's dreams as well from his parents, knowing their fury.
When the day came that Heartsease had gone missing, it was first assumed that the doe had headed off early to go see the old squirrel. When it was confirmed that was not the case however immediately search parties for only near the warren were viewed. With no results, it was assumed she must have gone off to join the Long Patrol and Banwurt was scolded for having entertained such thoughts. Blamed for his sister running off, he was charged with the responsibility to find her and bring her back to the warren. Thankfully his father saw some form of mercy and charged his younger brother, Coltsfoot, to go with him to make sure that Banwurt stayed on the correct path (both metaphorically and literally).
Relationships: Timothy Highleap: An aged squirrel, Timothy had been teaching Heartsease and had been the one to start encouraging Banwurt's own wants carefully. [Age 65]
Brothers: Chicory: Next in line after Banwurt, he is somewhat lazy. Nominally in charge of supplies at the warren. His white patch is on his left haunch. [Age 20] Coltsfoot: The historian brother, he knows the most of Mossflower's history; he was expected to accompany Banwurt to retrieve Heartsease. He is the only child with no white patch. [Age 17] Chervil and Campion: Twins, distinguishable only by Chervil having his white patch over his right eye and Campion having his on his left paw. Proper and dignified rabbits (as much as two bucks their age can be), they are their mother's pride and extremely spoiled and fussy. [Age 12] Russet: The baby, he is secretly impressed with Heartsease's mission and has been caught trying to run away to follow her. Twice. His white patch is on his muzzle. [Age 8]
Sister: Heartsease: The only sister in all of the children as well as the middle child as well as one of the siblings Banwurt is closest to who admired the skill he seemed to have for medical. Her white patch is on her right foot paw. [Age 15]
Parents: Viola Violanus: The matriarch of the warren, a traditional prim doe. Deeply embarrassed by her only daughter's disappearance, she sent two of her sons to retrieve her. [Age 45] Cress Violanus: Viola's husband, the patriarch of the warren. He was the one who selected Coltsfoot to join Banwurt, as he realized his eldest had no sense of direction and would never locate Heartsease on his own. [Age 47]
