Name: Uhtred Telmurus Vilhard
Gender: Male
Age: 23
Species: Sea Otter
Occupation: Homesteader; a tough and hardy beast looking to carve out a home from the bare wilderness.
Physical Appearance:
Tall, sleek, and muscular, Uhtred cuts an imposing and impressive figure. His whiskers are long and well groomed and his facial fur bears the striking resemblance to a well manicured goatee and full mustache, much to the delight of its owner. He has piercing green eyes that can sometimes be more effective weapons than anything else in his arsenal. His white head fur is only broken by a line of inky black fur leading from his nose to his inky black back and body fur. His thickly muscled torso, limbs, and rudder can put him up a tree as easily as bringing him to the ocean floor.
Possessions:
Uhtred travels with a walking stick, a narrow oak rod that widens into a nearly triangular head. His stick can easily be inverted and outfitted with interchangeable heads that he carries in his rucksack: pick-axe, woodsman's axe, or sledge hammer. He carries a rucksack, canteen, wineskin, an oil-skin bag (waterproof) for valuables and his journal, a pair of prospectors spectacles, a pocket spyglass, thirty feet of rope, a bedroll, and a pot (often doubling as a helmet). His clothes are utilitarian with a touch of flair and class: his wide brimmed black eel leather hat and matching jacket are sufficiently rough and tumble whilst still sporting shiny buttons and buckles, the bright red sash adorning his midsection evokes the image of a swashbuckling rogue and sets the ladies' hearts a-flutter, his eel leather chaps cover a pair of brown pants and flare out above his shiny black boots (spurred for tree climbing) with only a hint of scuffing. Buckled to his sash is a sword, a pattern welded blade (three iron rods twisted and welded together to make the spine of the blade flexible before being affixed with two steel rods on the outside to hold a razor sharp edge before being pounded into shape) that when seen appears to have an eerily beautiful icy image dancing along the blade. His sword is encased in a plain scabbard and a long knife is buckled to his other side. He carries a yew longbow slung across his back, an almost artistic weapon; as well as a quiver of arrows belted to his heavily muscled right leg.
Personality:
Uhtred is curious and complex, origional and visionary. His mind's eye has a far sight and can always see the path to achieve his ambitions. He is dutiful, determined, and self disciplined. His friends and companions can rely upon him and he is meticulously organized (though to the casual observer this may not seem the case). In tense situations he can maintain his calm and collected-ness, though during the routine times his patience is easily worn thin. He is neither particularly social nor reserved, only speaking when he knows what he's talking about and not taken to flamboyant shows of ignorance or stupidity. He is critical of everybeast, his friends more so than others (though his criticism is not to belittle them but to encourage them to know themselves for their good and bad). He finds it easy to judge and critique others and finds enjoyment in cynicism and sarcasm though it is not usually malicious, just his sense of humor. On the whole he is relaxed, secure, hardy, and cool headed.
Strengths:
Uhtred is magnificently strong, his life as a warring sea warrior and later homesteader has honed his domestic and martial skills and his body has responded with a large, rippling, and aesthetically pleasing musculature. He is intelligent, witty and guileful, his intellect would not be normal even at a gathering of the most learned beasts: his charm and cunning has served him well during encounters with vagabonds and the occasional unsuspecting vermin encampment, as well as the occasional she-otter or mousemaid. Uhtred's senses are extra fine, he can see and hear and smell and process his surroundings quickly and efficiently.
Weaknesses:
Uhtred's brain is often his most dangerous foe, he has the tendency to over think and his overactive imagination conjures dangers and obstacles that aren't present. He dwells on failures and past defeats, studies and fixates on them trying to avoid them at all costs. Uhtred is sappy and hopelessly romantic, he can't resist a pair of beautiful feminine eyes or the advances of an attractive female. His protective instincts are overly developed and he easily falls prey to the weeping of dibbuns and she-beasts. Physically he is overzealous with his exertions and often finds himself with stiff, painful, and nearly unresponsive joints. His wrists, thumbs, knees, and low back are almost always giving him some form of trouble or another. Uhtred's joint problems slow down his progress constantly and frustrate him to no end.
History:
Uhtred is the second son of a petty noble sea otter in a far off land, also named Uhtred. Being the second son, he didn't have much hope of an inheritance and therefore spent a good deal of his young and adolescent seasons learning the sciences and humanities at the tutelage of his father's advisers and holt elders. He competed in riddle contests and other contests of skill in his holt and grew very close to the common otters of the holt. After his older brother and most of his holt was killed by maurauding sea vermin and his holt's lands decimated he and his father took to the seas to rid their home of the vermin, on the long and arduous journey he honed his skills and strength. He, father, and their household soldiers and retainers came upon many a vermin ship, all were mercilessly butchered, pillaged, and scuttled. Eventually the vengeful otters came upon the ship they were looking for: a black trireme manned by nearly two hundred sea vermin. Uhtred and Uhtred rammed the ship and leaped aboard, hewing and slashing. Scores of vermin fell to the blades of the father and son and the two held a position for their fellow sea otters to board and add to the cacophony of death. They formed two shield walls and inched toward the prow and stern, vermin leaping overboard or dieing under the flashing steel of the ferocious otter warriors. The fight wore on for hours, the otters fought tooth and claw, blade and paw till eventually they won the day. The slaves aboard the ship were mostly of sea otter stock, but many mice, shrews, and voles comprised the slaves. After the battle Uhtred and Uhtred parted ways. Uhtred the Older sailed back to his home with the wounded and married, whilst Uhtred the Younger continued his voyage with the more adventerous, single, and recently emancipated crewbeasts to establish a new holt and homestead across the sea for his father and kinsbeasts to follow later to. Uhtred the Younger made landfall several months ago and his search began after a long and well deserved feast and celebration. He set out alone to find a suitable holt ground, leaving his crew on the beach where they made landfall to set up a small settlement.
Relationship:
Close relationship with the crew, though none of his crewmates accompany him.
