Name: Eckolet
Gender: Female
Age: 20
Species: Squirrel
Occupation: Former oar slave/traveler
Physical Appearance:
Complexion: Eckolet is a dark grey color over her entire body. Her tail is a shade lighter. Her fur seems like silk up close, though blends in quite well with the dappled light that filters through the trees.
Build: Short and slim would be the best words to discribe Eckolet. She stands shorter than the average squirrel and is quite slim, though her tail, when erect, could possibly double as a sunshade, as it is the length of her entire body.
Clothing: A rough, homespun grey tunic seems to do her just fine. It is completed with a woven belt with a silver squirrel shaped buckle and a pair of cross belts that rest across her small chest.
Personal Traits: A large, jagged scar runs from the base of her neck across her spin and down to her opposite thigh. This is typically hidden by her tunic, however, and very few beasts have ever laid eyes upon it.
Possessions:
Eckolet's possessions are few. A haversack (which is typically empty or filled with foods gathered from the woodlands) sits upon her back, just over a quiver of arrows, an unstrung bow resting in the quiver. A sling is tied about her small waist, and a pouch of sling stones bumps against her hip as she walks. A short knife is tucked into her belt, under the haversack. Around her neck is a cord with a purplish stone hanging from it.
Personality:
Eckolet is easy going at first glance. She seems carefree, like most squirrels, and will treat all creatures as friends. Until her wrath is incurred. Then she is a whirlwind of energy, hunting her enemy until death. Eckolet has a soft spot for younglings of any species.
Strengths:
She is an expert marksman. She is also a remarkable climber (as per her squirrel heritage).
Weaknesses:
Eckolet has a deep seated fear of water of any kind. She can look at it, touch it, bathe in it, but will not swim and hates boating. Eckolet also has a hatred for searats of any kind, no matter who they are traveling with, doing, or their affiliations.
History:
Captured at a very young age, Eckolet knew little more than a hard bench, chains, and the movement of ships. She only saw the sea through the small hole in the side of the ship. Being an oar slave was not the easiest of positions, and she watched as first her parents, then her siblings, died and were tossed overboard into the relentless sea. But onward she rowed, trying to avoid the whip that hung on the belt of the slave driver searat. Eckolet had no idea that any other way of life really existed.
That was until the day that she was thrown overboard. Eckolet had passed out from sheer starvation and was close to the dark gates. The rats, thinking her dead, threw her overboard to feed the fishes. She was washed ashore far south of Mossflower, in the land of Southsward. A band of otters found her and brought her to their home near the shore. It took several seasons before she was able to truly fend for herself. Despite growing up on the sea, she retained a crippling fear of the water from her time of being thrown overboard.
The otters taught Eckolet as much as they could. But a squirrel, especially one who was a stunted in growth as Eckolet, could not live among otters forever, and there came a day when she knew she must move on. She was given rations for her journey, a bow, and a sling. The otters wished her all the luck in the world as she went on her way. They also gave her a cord with a purplish stone upon it, a stone that is found in the depths of their home cave, as a way to remember her time among them.
Eckolet decided to travel north, not knowing what lay that way, or any way from the otter's home. Her only wish was to find someplace where she could live in peace and happiness. If it meant having the odd adventure on the way, more the reason to go.
