Name: Rade
Gender: Male
Age: 27 (Right smack in the middle of his prime)
Species: Ermine
Occupation: Straight-up Mercenary.
Physical Appearance:
Rade is a rugged ermine. He stands at about average height, but is strongly built and very lithe. He possesses a sort of confident look and can appear to be very intimidating. He knows this and carries himself in a confident way. Like most ermine, his fur is white and cream colored. The most distinguishing feature of his appearance, however, is his missing left eye. He wears a black patch over it, adding to his already scary look.
Overall, he is a somewhat handsome beast, touched with a spooky look. He wears a simple grey outfit that doesn't stand out too much. He relies on his rugged looks and intimidating appearance to stand out. His remaining eye changes colors from time to time, but it's mostly hazel or green. Aside from being one-eyed, he has no outstanding scars or features.
Possessions:
Rade owns a fancy military cleaver which he uses for personal combat along with his shield. His outfit is simple and unassuming. He wears a grey, long-sleeved shirt and grey pants. Other than that, he owns a large, hidden fortune he accumulated over his years of mercenary work. The only things he's ever spent it on were his sword and shield.
Personality:
Rade seems more complicated than he really is. He is a simple beast, acting on his own set of morals and beliefs. He is kind and genuine, and often very honest. However, he is also very brusque and blunt, sometimes hurting others' feelings. He's been called cold, selfish, and even evil, but he cares little of what other beasts call him.
As far as his career, Rade only accepts contracts against military opponents or those that can defend themselves. He also declines contracts that have him butchering those that he feels do not deserve it. The mercenary believes that honor should be kept between combatants, and often tries to remove any hatred that he can from his battles. However, even though he frowns on enmity, Rade is ferocious in battle, often appearing like a mad-beast. Battle is not just an occupation of his; it is a hobby that he genuinely enjoys. Strangely enough, Rade doesn't enjoy killing.
Rade is very good and competent at hurting others. He's so good, that he often does so without intention. However, he doesn't enjoy causing pain to other beasts. Just one more reason why many view him as strange. Rade just generally wants to have a good scrap, then celebrate. He enjoys "hanging out" with friends and having a good time. However, no matter how friendly he may try to seem, Rade will always be viewed by otherbeasts as scary and dangerous.
Generally, when somebeast just sits down and gets to know him, they'll find that he is a fun, company-loving, friendly warrior who is true to himself and others. He merely enjoys the thrill of the ultimate competition: battle. However, he can be utterly psychopathic at times. Don't ever make him angry, or you might live to regret it. He feels very strongly about certain things, and will become savage if his beliefs are tread upon.
Strengths:
Rade is a veteran mercenary and, as such, is a very capable warrior.
He is physically fit and agile.
He is very, very crafty and clever. This makes him even more dangerous.
Rade is very intimidating, and can sometimes get what he wants just be showing this trait off.
He is very tough. Very, very tough.
Weaknesses:
Rade is viewed by many as a dangerous, psychopathic, or even downright evil beast, owing to his love of battle. He is totally misunderstood.
He only has one eye. This messes up his depth-perception and also gives him a rather large blind-spot.
Rade is clever, but he is quite spacey and has a hard time focusing on things.
He is afraid of fire. He can sit in front of a campfire, but that's the best he can do.
Rade has trouble talking to other beasts at times, owing to his brusque manner. This makes him misunderstood even further.
He has a habit of getting himself into trouble. A lot.
History:
Rade was born to a normal family, in a normal setting, with a normal life. Too normal. He found that he was constantly bored out of his skull and wanted to get out of this humdrum, ordinary life. He needed adventure. He needed to have a cause. Born to a small community of ermines, Rade was one of many young ones. His particular family revolved around a careful and meticulous manner of living. They had to follow many unnecessary rules that Rade considered even limiting. His father dominated everything. No one did anything without his approval, which often meant no one did anything drastic. Rade frowned on this. He craved excitement. His two older brothers were securely under their father's heel, but Rade was not. He longed for the day where he could make his own rules and live by his own judgement.
Rade decided that he would strike out on his own and take whatever life threw at him. After many tearful "goodbyes" and stern lectures, Rade finally released himself from the stale life he once belonged to. His family had made him promise that he'd visit every once in a while. He stuck his neck out of the Northern lands he once called home and trekked south-ward. The first thing life threw his way was a beautiful ermine lass that he met while he was traveling. The two hit it off very well and decided to travel together. Becoming fast friends, they went on many adventures together and eventually decided to travel upwards to the north.
On their way there, they met another ermine, a handsome male. The three of them enjoyed trekking across the beautiful terrain of the north. Things began becoming somewhat complicated, however, when Rade's two friends decided to become a couple. They decided to settle down in the north and live their life there. Rade hid his anguish behind a smile as he gave them his best wishes and said goodbye. Secretly, Rade had grown very attached to the female ermine and was sad to see her go. But, he decided, he probably couldn't ever enter such a relationship.
After wandering aimlessly about for a couple months, Rade had become an amateur mercenary. He barely noticed at first, as he started out just helping solve other beasts' problems for rewards. After a time, Rade had become a fully-fledged mercenary and was recognized as such. He found, to his surprise, that he loved to battle against competent opponents. Rade found enjoyment and even some sort of contention in living this active and lucrative lifestyle. He never desired to hurt the innocent, and he hardly ever did. However, there were those among Rade's vanquished foes that some would consider innocent.
Eventually, Rade had completely changed. He was an absolute mercenary. He fought for himself and his lust of violence and battle. He grew to be a respected and feared warrior. Accumulating a large fortune and many true friends, Rade had it all. The only thing he didn't have was a wife to go home to. But he constantly reminded himself that he couldn't hold a relationship. He also convinced himself that no one could possibly love him as a mate, due to his lust of violence. Besides, not even the loss of his left eye had kept him from war. He felt he could never leave the battlefield.
After years of a successful life as a mercenary, Rade decided quite suddenly and without much warning that he wanted to go south. He found that there were not many worthy opponents left for him to take on, so he would travel until he found a cause worthy of his blade and name. Saying goodbye to many of his good friends and promising them that they would see him again, Rade stuck out towards the south. During one of his most fierce duels, his opponent carved out his left eye. However, Rade paid him back in double... if you catch the drift.
Relationships:
Rade has many friends and acquaintances. He lost contact with his old ermine friends, but he thinks better of trying to reestablish a relationship with them.
Every once in a while, he'll visit his family. His father has passed away, but his mother and two brothers all live comfortably together.
Other:
Rade knows Taross the Warlord. The two of them had fought both against and with each other. Only Rade's cleverness had saved him from joining the immeasurable amount of Taross' vanquished foes.
