"It depends on the time o' year and where I'm going. I always have a bunch o' spices with me, an' I usually carry a few pouches of different nuts because they're an easy snack an' filling." She shrugged, and nodded over at the pot boiling over the fire. "All the fruits and vegetables are part o' the rations the Captain doled out. I don't usually drag any along."
"Well, yore an invaluable addition t' the jolly team, m' gel," the corporal chuckled. "Allas in need o' good cooks on bolly scouting missions, wot, wot?" He ate another few nuts, finishing his snack in silence.
After that, he took the Captain's idea and began checking his own weapons. Sliding an arrow or two from his quiver laying nearby, Cordin checked the shafts, the heads, and the feathers for any imperfections that would hinder his shooting. He knew he wasn't a top-notch archer, but he didn't often miss a mark. And he knew that a bent arrow shaft would not be his friend come the time to use it.
His concentration broke when Ripley began handing out bowls of the soup. The buck eagerly took his share, offering his thanks to the maid. The soup itself was just right. Exactly what he needed after a good day of walking. Sure, it wasn't a masterpiece in the culinary arts, but what did he care? It was food, dammit.
"Are we taking watch shifts t'night or are we close enough to the mountain?"
"I c'uld take firs' watch," the corporal offered through half a mouthful of vegetables.

"Corporal Donald Q. Fribbs. Jr, but friends call me Fribbs Prime. Long Patrol Corporal, of course. Nice to make your acquaintance... Mr. Averi. Sit down, Mr. Averi, I'd just like to talk, wot. And, remember, any sudden movements, well..." the corporal, who was sheathing his blade, made a slitting gesture across his neck, to indicate the consequences should Seig try to get his weapon.
"So, Mr. Averi, have you seen any, let's see, otters, lately?" he asked, sitting down cross legged. "Or, rats? You seem like a fellow who wouldn't mind the companionship of some rats, if they pay the right fee? Am I right?"
--
Lance Corporal Gonzo had his short bow out, an arrow trained on the mercenary's back. Though its range and power were limited, he was still at a close enough distance to kill the 'Mr. Averi'. Wound him, at the very least, and leave an easy target for Fribbs Prime to dispatch with his long dagger.

"Can I trust you with that, Sergeant Zade? Guard duty does entail a need of quietness and alertness!"
"Of course! Quiet as a gnat's whisper!" He selected a 'few' weapons; two cutlasses on his belt, two waraxes crossed on his back, five daggers across his chest, and a long pike. "Do you think this is a little over excessive?" he asked.

Seig only nodded and returned his paws to his side. Glancing from the fire to his weapon he shrugged a little, not much he could do even if he wanted too, this hare and no doubt his allies had him trapped. Going to have to play along until they don't see his as a possible threat anymore. Raising a eyebrow as the hare spoke he shrugged a little again before replying. Even though the hare was making gross assumptions about his character, from his species he guessed, it would do him no benefit to try and correct the hare.
"As long as said rats aren't going around murdering and thieving sir no, I would not mind the company of rats. But to answer your question no, I haven't seen any otter or rats. I have only seen you today, unless you count the sand and the sea, sir."
Corporal was still higher ranked than he in this land, so sir was still correct. But Seig kept his eyes on the air, the gesture of possible death still fresh in his mind should he displease the hare. Crossing his legs he sat and watched the hare for his reply, tail flicking a little but other then that he stayed still.

"Sergeant, do you realize we're scouts, wot? Besides the obvious fact that no beast can wield such an extensive amount of weapons, why would you even consider that?" MacCross shook his head. "Zade, I'm relieving you of guard duty. Presely and I will suffice, wot!" the Colour sergeant said, shaking his head.
--
"Fair enough, Mr. Averi, but you're a sellsword, as you've just told me, wot. At least, it makes the most sense for a traveling blade to be a mercenary, no?" Fribbs prime said, crossing his paws in his lap. "I'm going to trust you, Mr. Averi, but now..." the hare said, leaping up. Extending a paw to the ferret, he shrugged. "We're short on numbers, I'll talk to my platoon leader, and you may have a job, Mr. Averi. If you can handle our mannerisms, and wot not!" the corporal said, smirking.

Shrugging a little the ferret started to say that he wasn't actually a Sellsword but before he got past the first actually the hare had leapt up and was apparently offering him a job.
Understandable Seig was completely taken aback by this so he just sat there slack jawed for a few seconds as he looked at the hare. It wasn't even a full day since he was tossed out of the mountain and the same hares were now offering him the chance to travel with them as a ally. Finally managing to close his mouth he mentally slapped himself;
'Come on Seig think about this logically. They are short on hares, seems odd considering how much they boasted in the mountain. But that must mean they have a goal in mind if they care about numbers, and if they care about numbers that much it must be something either far away or dangerous...At least its something to do, and maybe this will get you in the hares good books.'
Finally, after at least ten seconds of sitting both slack jawed and normal, Seig smiled up at the corporal he reached up and gripped the offered paw, pulling himself up as he shook it. Snapping to attention once he was standing he nodded to Fribbs. "Understood sir, your mannerisms will not hinder my ability to fight sir. By your leave sir." He replied as he turned around to start to gather his camping supplies and gear. Maybe he would see the second hare that had been training a arrow on him but he was mostly just smiling like a fool, things were finally starting to look up.

Pawl smiled triumphantly and threw his weapons down, "Ah well, guess I'll have to cook then, wot?. Shame. You'll have to miss the incredible skilly 'n' duff I'm making."
He wasn't actually planning on cooking, he would ask somebeast else to do that. In reality, he was planning on following them. He went and gave another hare the recipe for skilly 'n' duff, then after they left, he grabbed a double bladed war-axe and followed them. (you can enter what they do when they leave, I just didn't want to have a short post)

"Zade!" The Colour sergeant bellowed after only a feet from the campsite. "Are you disobeying a direct order! From the commander of this scouting platoon?" the Colour sergeant shook his head, not even looking back. "Bad form, wot! I can hear your heavy footsteps a mile away. Now, get back to the camp, before Ah' haul you back to Long Patrol High Command on grounds of treason!" the bad tempered NCO bellowed.
--
"Sorry for getting off on the wrong foot, Mr. Averi, but vermin are well, vermin, wot! After so much distrust over the past thousand of years, a vermin will still be any Long Patrollers prime suspect, wot! And, like I said, Mr. Averi, the name is Corps, Corps Fribbs, or simply Fribbs Prime. Only the ladies are allowed to call me Donny, wot! Gonzo, Tupa, come on out and meet our new guest!"
--
The two other hares came into view and greeted the mercenary with nods of their heads.
(Can we have the two groups start meeting up soon?)

Tossing his backpack over his shoulder after it was packed up Seig nodded a little. "Understood Corporal Fribbs. But from what I've seen of this 'Mossflower' so far your suspicious are justified. But I will commend you sir for giving me a chance to speak, the shrews for the most part didn't." He replied as he followed the hare back to his camp.
Upon arriving Seig saluted the hares that were around the small campfire before carefully setting his backpack down, then his halberd beside that. Doing his best to smile he sat down on the fire warmed sands, bowling his head a little to the hares as he got settled.
"Sirs."
(Maybe meet up during the next daytime? Sorry if the post isn't great, was rushing a little to get things finished and packed, see the absence board for details.)
