Dax listened respectfully as Tarros told him about his past life in the land of Ice and Snow. He had a hunch that Tarros wasn't always the friendly beast that stood before him, and he had been proven right. However, as Tarros began to tell him of the Hereditary disease that cursed his family line, Dax couldn't help but feel Sorry for the large wolverine. Tarros had put so much faith into finding a cure at Redwall Abby, but in the end had come up empty handed.
Tarros then looked at Dax with an emotion that the polecat couldn't place.
"I'm dying, Dax."
The polecat sat silently for a moment. For the first time Since he was abducted from his homeland, he felt sympathy for someone that wasn't a member of The Grand Fleet. he was beginning to consider Tarros a friend.
"Well, your youth is still inside that thick hide of yours somewhere. And as long as you have that, You will continue to search for a cure. That gives you motivation and focus."
Dax laughed.
"And even if you don't, you cant say that your life wasn't lived to the fullest. "
Dax then looked at Tarros questioningly.
"Because you didn't find a cure at Redwall, what will you do now? I'm honestly surprised that you are still following us."

"You had something to do with that mess up there at Kyo?! Wow... The way I heard it, everyone either followed the stoat or died... I'm guessing the rumors aren't entirely true...?"
Tetra's demeanor suddenly plummeted into the redzone. The fur on her back began to stand up as if a surge of electricity had just coursed through her body.
Her next few sentences were growled rather than spoken.
"You heard right...everyone in the fort is said to have been slaughtered by the paws of that stoat and his army, that was the plan all along. However, he failed to mention that my Crew would be included in the list of dead. You see, we were offered a VERY generous sum of gold in payment for helping the Warlord transport much needed supplies to and from his Armies stationed around Kyo before the invasion....We didn't actually take part in the capturing of the fort, but after the battle was won, we went to receive our payment. However, as we entered his tent, the bastard betrayed us. We were ambushed, and the vast majority my crew was killed on the spot. 6 of us, including Dax and myself, were able to escape and flee back to our ship. however, we discovered that it was badly damaged, no doubt ordered by the Warlord. But with His soldiers on our tail and the fact that we were hopelessly outnumbered, we had to risk a naval escape.
Long story short, they caught up to us in their own sea vessels, boarded our ship, and slew everyone aboard aside from Dax and I. We were lucky to make an escape and float back ashore."
Tetra took a long breath, then exhaled slowly. Her calculated personality returned and her fur relaxed.
"So, there you have it. I could care less about the fort, But that warlord will lay dead at my feet."
Tarros then looked at Dax with an emotion that the polecat couldn't place.
