"Aye, matey," he finally concluded with a smile and a nod. "I think that with a few more days o' practicin', I just might be ready to preform in front o' t'e abbey,"
Oakley returned the smile wholeheartedly. "That's the spirit," she said encouragingly. "I bet we'll have ye ready b'fore the feast starts, huh?" She winked. As Oliden went on to list his favorite dishes, she heard her stomach growl softly and chuckled.
"Oh, they don't talk s'much about the food as they eat it," she replied. "Them hares can't seem t'scoff 'nuff at ol' Sali, wot?" Throwing her head back, she laughed at her own mimicry of the hares' speech pattern. The librarian looked up from his desk and shushed her. She shrugged apologetically and turned back to Oliden.
"Oh, miz Oakley, I can teach ye how to swim. Rather, you're teachin' me how to sing better, so tis only fair," he invited, his forepaws rapping against the Library floor.
Oakley seemed to consider for a moment. "I s'pose it'd be useful t'learn proper," she agreed, hazel eyes searching the ceiling. "'Specially considering Sali's on the ol' coastline an' Redwall's got a pond." She tapped her chin and grinned. "Alright, then. If'n ye insist."

"That's the spirit," she said encouragingly. "I bet we'll have ye ready b'fore the feast starts, huh?"
"Right'o, lassy! Haha!" the otter laughed, feeling much better than he had previously. "Whatta'ya say we go out by t'e abbey, marm? I know a quiet place 'round back where we can practice our heart outs!" Of course, by all means, if the rabbitmaid wanted to stick around to make more songs out of book texts, he would stay around, too.
"Oh, they don't talk s'much about the food as they eat it," she replied. "Them hares can't seem t'scoff 'nuff at ol' Sali, wot?"
The otter smiled earnestly, chuckling at her impersination of a hare. "I betcha get along just fine with them ole' hollowbellied hares in the mountain, eh, wot?" he mimiced along, chortling soon afterward. What fun! Maybe, after she became an otter, he'd go off and try to fit in with the hares of Salamandastron. Perhaps one day, if they grew closer as friends, he could sacrifice a portion of his time at Redwall abbey to visit the infamous fire mountain. Only if it was alright with Oakley and the Badger Lord.
"I s'pose it'd be useful t'learn proper," she agreed, hazel eyes searching the ceiling. "'Specially considering Sali's on the ol' coastline an' Redwall's got a pond." She tapped her chin and grinned. "Alright, then. If'n ye insist."
Oliden clasped his paws together in excitement. "Alright, then, me matey! I sing, you swim," he agreed, putting out his light brown paw to shake a truce with the rabbit, though he was already positive they'd both stay true to their words. Was there any reason not to?

"Whatta'ya say we go out by t'e abbey, marm? I know a quiet place 'round back where we can practice our heart outs!"
Oakley nodded agreement. "Aye, I doubt this is the best place for that," she chuckled, noting the glare she received from the librarian. And now that more abbey dwellers were coming in, singing at the top of their lungs was definitely not the appropriate thing to do here.
"I betcha get along just fine with them ole' hollowbellied hares in the mountain, eh, wot?" he mimiced along, chortling soon afterward.
Oakley giggled, moving to stand up so they could leave. "Indeed," she replied. "I dare say those ol' chaps are a right famished-face bunch, wot, wot?" Oh, the fun she had every spring and summer, making the majors red-faced with her mockery. Plenty of the other hares joined in, even her stepbrother, though he was only a cadet.
"Alright, then, me matey! I sing, you swim," he agreed, putting out his light brown paw to shake a truce with the rabbit, though he was already positive they'd both stay true to their words.
The rabbit's own snow-white paw clasped the otter's in a firm pawshake. Oakley grinned again, spinning on her paw and making to leave the library. "Well, come along, Oliden," she called. "We best warm up ye voice proper. Lead the way!"
((Feel free to time skip and get them to that quiet spot. ^^ ))
