"Have either of you ever heard the voice of Martin the warrior?" he asked not realizing how irrelevant the question was to his friends concerns.
"Th' voice a' who?" Alne asked, even more confused than Travi. "Ye mean th' braw mouse in yon tapestry?" She jerked a thumb in the direction of Great Hall, suppressing a giggle. "Ye believe 'e can speak?" Trying to keep the disbelieving smirk off her face, she carefully processed what Leander had just said. By all accounts, Martin the Warrior was dead. So she had learned, anyway. But Travi seemed to agree. Or, sort of.
"Uhh..well, no..but yes Ah suppose. It be complicated...Why ye askin' mate?"
"Ye've heard yon warrior speak, too?" Alne turned to Travi, cocking her head curiously. Sure, she had heard the stories of Martin's brave actions, his founding of Redwall, and so forth. But a dead mouse didn't speak to any beast.
Fairly new to Redwall and often happily stuck in the kitchens, the black squirrel had yet to hear the tales of Martin's spirit visiting an abbey beast in times of need. She was beginning to wonder if Leander's painful jump into the pond had caused him to hallucinate. But Travi seemed fine, and he didn't seem to think Leander was crazy. It was all a big puzzle to the young black squirrel.

Leander began to regret what he had said. Now he needed to explain everything, which he didn't want to do, especially since he didn't quite understand what had just occurred either.
"W-well I suppose I m-might have-" he trailed off as he tried to think of way to explain himself that would actually make him sound sane. Turning to his friends, he tried to speak again, but then caught himself. He began to chew on his whiskers.
He sighed and let go of his whiskers. There was no easy way to explain this. "It's going to sound weird, but...y-yes, I t-think I have!" he stuttered. Even though it came from his own mouth, Leander had a tough time believing it.
He tried to recall exactly what had happened while he was submerged. "Y'see I went under to try Travi's flip, but I saw...something when I was looking back up at the surface from the pond floor," he added gesturing very animatedly, "I-I think it was a mouse, but the water- it made it tough to tell! Then suddenly I heard a... voice speak to me- like I was on land!" He began to chew on his whiskers again as he tried to remember what the voice had told him.
"What did he say? What did he say?" he muttered through chewed whiskers. "Never forget the name, Leander…” he added pondering the meaning of the phrase. Turning back to his friends Leander shrugged, “Well I can’t quite remember!” The Spirit of Martin the Warrior may have spoken to him and he had forgotten almost everything! How stupid could a beast be?
“Sorry about the panic,” he sighed rubbing his temples. “I must have imagined it. After all Martin’s spirit only speaks to warriors…r-right?”

"Th' voice a' who?" Alne asked, even more confused than Travi. "Ye mean th' braw mouse in yon tapestry?" She jerked a thumb in the direction of Great Hall, suppressing a giggle. "Ye believe 'e can speak?"
Travioso gave Alne a severe look, but turned away and did not reply. O' 'e can speak alrig't...Travi thought to himself, the memories flooding into his mind like a river that had swollen it's banks.
"Ye've heard yon warrior speak, too?" Alne turned to Travi, thingying her head curiously.
Travi sighed a bit. "Again...yes an' naw. It be complicated." How many times would he have to day that? He didn't hear Martin, he blacked out. Apparently Martin spoke through him. Travi was told what he had said. Something inside him made the words familiar, but that was it. So yes and no, it was hard to keep explaining over and over and over...
Flicking his ears back a bit and furrowing his brow, Travi said nothing. Martin spoke to Leander? Why? And what did he say?
"Y'see I went under to try Travi's flip, but I saw...something when I was looking back up at the surface from the pond floor," he added gesturing very animatedly, "I-I think it was a mouse, but the water- it made it tough to tell! "What did he say? What did he say?" he muttered through chewed whiskers. "Never forget the name, Leander…” he added pondering the meaning of the phrase. Turning back to his friends Leander shrugged, “Well I can’t quite remember!”
Travi looked down into the water, still treading it in front of Leander. This sounded almost serious! It could have been Leander was down there too long and the pressure was getting got his brain, but this sounded serious. Leander wasn't lying. Maybe....Maybe he could help him remember....
Travi skimmed the surface of the water and headed to the bank. Shaking the water off his fur as he hit dry land, Travi hurried over to his things. Putting on his belt and hat, Travi grabbed his cane.
“Sorry about the panic,” he sighed rubbing his temples. “I must have imagined it. After all Martin’s spirit only speaks to warriors…r-right?"
Travi turned back to Leander. "Nay mate. Martin does w'at 'e wants. Warrior 'er naw warrior. Gets out o' da Pond an' fallow mea, quickly now!" He motioned, completely serious and a tad bit urgent. If he didn't do it quick, Leander may not remember....

Alne got lost in the conversation between the two otters. Obviously, they were both going to take this 'talking warrior' thing quite seriously. Noticing the look he gave her, the black squirrel wondered of she'd offended Travi with her words. She made to apologize, but the otter was beckoning to Leander. Apparently they had somewhere to go.
Just then, the friar called her from Great Hall. Alne still felt bad for what she had said, so she decided to ask forgiveness before she had to leave. "Sir, Travi," she began, getting hastily to her feet. However, she moved too fast, and one of her hind paws stepped on the hem of her dress. Unable to regain her balance, she cried out in surprise as she tumbled headfirst into the pond.
Resurfacing with a spluttering cough, she grabbed a hold of the pier and tried to pull herself back up. But her heavy wet fur made things difficult, so she instead aimed for the shore. Pulling herself onto dry ground, she shook out her fur and looked up at the otters in embarrassment, a bright red blush creeping into her features. "Please forgi' me," she murmured while she still had the nerve. "Ah dinnae mean tae insult yon warrior."

Leander watched as Travi rushed ashore and gathered his things. He was still surprised to see his friend moving so fast. It seemed the urgency of the situation propelled him.
"Nay mate. Martin does w'at 'e wants. Warrior 'er naw warrior. Gets out o' da Pond an' fallow mea, quickly now!"
Leander nodded and was about to dash off with Travi when he had heard a squeak and a splash. Leander turned back to the pond to find Alne spluttering as she broke the surface of the water. She must have tripped and fallen in.
"Please forgi' me," she murmured while she still had the nerve. "Ah dinnae mean tae insult yon warrior."
Forgetting his pressing task, Leander ran to the aid of Alne who was having trouble lifting herself back up. He gave her his paw as he lifted her back onto her footpaws.
"Don't worry about apologizing to us," he replied. "Now head on in and dry off or you'll catch a cold!" he chuckled, his good humor remained for now.

Travi twisted an edge of his shirt to strain out the water, but he was soaked. There was no getting this shirt dry yet, but right now, Travioso didn't care. He had to get Leander into the Great Hall and quickly! Maybe he still had a chance to figure out what Martin said!
"Sir, Travi," she began, getting hastily to her feet. However, she moved too fast, and one of her hind paws stepped on the hem of her dress. Unable to regain her balance, she cried out in surprise as she tumbled headfirst into the pond.
Looking up, Travi saw Alne fall into the pond. Oh great...He mentally growled. Limping quickly back toward the pond, Travi was going to check to make sure she was okay. He wasn't going to let her drown.
But thankfully, she surfaced spluttering water. Leander went to assist her.
"Please forgi' me," she murmured while she still had the nerve. "Ah dinnae mean tae insult yon warrior."

Travi sighed, "Tis alrig't miss, glad yer okay. Leander, quickly now!" He motioned with his paw, get more and more urgent.

((OOC: Jan said to go ahead and post without her for now so I'll just reply here))
Travi sighed, "Tis alrig't miss, glad yer okay. Leander, quickly now!"
Sensing the urgency in Travi's voice, Leander muttered a quick good bye before dashing to the otter's side.
"Where to?" Leander asked ready to charge. He was getting an idea of where they needed to be, but Leander did not want to rush out alone. Travi seemed to know something about these sorts of situations and he was not about to abandon him.

Travioso nodded good bye to Alne and hobbled off, forcing Leander to hurry to catch up to him. He didn't mean to be rude to Alne by any means, he simply wanted to hurry! If they didn't make it, it may be too late. To tell the truth, Travi didn't actually know if being late would cause any memory loss, but he wasn't willing to take any chances, just in case.
"Where to?" Leander asked ready to charge.
Adjusting his hat as he hobbled on with his cane, Travi replied in an audible mutter. "Da Great 'All. If yer sayin' w'at Ah t'ink yer sayin', t'en it s'ould 'elp ye remember...."
Hobbling toward the Main Building, Travi's mind swam with memories. He barely noticed as he passed by the Grounds and through the big door. Everything always seem to pass by in a blur of reality and memory.
It was only when Travi entered the Great Hall and hobbled over to the large tapestry the hung on the wall that everything seemed to stand still. On the large tapestry was a mouse. A tall, broad, handsome mouse dressed in armor, with a warrior's gleam in his eye. In his paws were a magnificent sword and a large round shield with an 'M' emblazoned on his shield. Vermin were depicted fleeing before the strong mouse on the tapestry and Travi stood there as still as a stone eyes locked with the mouse.
"Martin....."Travi found himself muttering. Looking into the warrior's eyes, Travi saw all of what he went through on his 'quest', the message he received echoing through his mind, but it was not like the nightmares he had. It was calm. Oddly calm.
Travioso blinked, he had something he was supposed to be doing. Leander! Turning to see if Leander had continued to follow and spoke. "Dis da mouse ye saw? T'ink." Maybe, just maybe, he would remember....
((Ooc: All right then, here's my post. Oh and Promatera, if you want Leander to remember then you can, but if Martin 'speaks' then could he just repeat what he said and nothing new? Thanks.))

"Da Great 'All. If yer sayin' w'at Ah t'ink yer sayin', t'en it s'ould 'elp ye remember...."
Leander nodded and followed Travi into the Great Hall, which had a mysterious atmosphere about it. Just ahead of them stood the tapestry of Martin the Warrior. Travi slowly approached it, almost as if in a trance. Leander remembered what Travi had said about speaking with the Spirit of Martin and wondered if a connection remained.
"Martin....."Travi found himself muttering.
Leander immediately set to work trying to remember what Martin had told him. He was sure he had spoken to him now, but he just could not remember what he had said. The only thing he could recall hearing was "Never forget the name, Leander." However, the phrase was very cryptic. How could he forget his own name? Unless it was somehow part of this mystery?
Turning to see if Leander had continued to follow and spoke. "Dis da mouse ye saw? T'ink."
"Y-yeah... I'm sure it was that mouse," he replied, "I can't quite remember what he told me, but I feel like it's right at the tip of my tongue."
Leander approached the tapestry, in his mind he had a mental picture of his name Leander. What if the last thing the warrior mouse had said was a clue? Leander. Leander?
L...
E...
A...
N...
D...
E...
R...
It suddenly dawned on him what Martin meant. Gasping in surprise, his eyes spread wide and his jaw dropped.
"I-I have it," he muttered, shocked that he had remembered Martin's advice. Then after taking a deep breath he began excitedly.
"Leaving the abbey will be a chore Exiting at a time of war and loathing All along the fool's path is death's door Never sucumb to feelings of foreboding Depend on the actor's performance of the Rivereye's lore Endure the torment of your aide Return to Redwall with your guide
Never forget the name, Leander..."
Nor would he ever forget it.

"Y-yeah... I'm sure it was that mouse," he replied, "I can't quite remember what he told me, but I feel like it's right at the tip of my tongue."Travioso watched as Leander approached the tapestry, deep in thought. Leaning heavily upon his cane, Travi's eyes flashed from Leander to Martin. Did, did he see Martin wink? Or was it a flicker of light? What ever happened, Leander looked stunned. "I-I have it," he muttered, shocked that he had remembered Martin's advice. Then after taking a deep breath he began excitedly."Leaving the abbey will be a chore Exiting at a time of war and loathing All along the fool's path is death's door Never sucumb to feelings of foreboding Depend on the actor's performance of the Rivereye's lore Endure the torment of your aide Return to Redwall with your guide
Never forget the name, Leander..."He nodded, listening to Leander intently. It was defiantly a message from Martin, that was for sure, what it all meant? He wasn't sure, but then again, he wasn't sure it was for him to know anyways. "Aye...T'oug't dat do it. Sounds just like Martin. Naw, w'at all dat means..." Travi shrugged. "Ah dan't knaw. Ah da knaw, ye s'ould probably be a writtin' dis down, some time it 'elps. Den we can be a talkin' ta see w'at ye need ta da...If ye wants dat is.." Travi shrugged again. He wasn't sure how much help he would be. He could try, but it was Leander's choice. ((Ooc: Nice work Promatera! Oh, if you want to do something like writing it down, I think like moving the thread to like the library or something, but that's if you want to. )) Posted while still a member of this site.

"O-of course," he stammered. Leander was still surprised that the spirit of Martin had spoken with him. Not to mention the task of deciphering Martin's message seemed a monumental task to him.
"I-I'd happily accept any help you can offer," he added quickly.
Then without wasting a moment, Leander darted off to the library. What could the message mean? He thought as he dashed through the great hall. Then he suddenly remembered he had left Travi behind.
"Sorry about that!" he called back, stopping in place, and turning back to his companion. His sheepish tone made it obvious he was back to his original, uncomfortable self.

((Ooc: Sounds like a good idea! After this post, you can feel free to start another thread in the Library!))
"O-of course," he stammered. [...] "I-I'd happily accept any help you can offer," he added quickly.
Travioso nodded and waved his paw toward the stairs. "Well, mate, lets go...." But Leander didn't hear Travi. He instead rushed off, full of energy. Travi grunted and shifted his position with his cane. This is why he hated be injured. Everybody else rushed off, and he was stuck hobbling along. The infirmary keeper said that he should have full strength in his paw soon, but not yet.
So Travi started to hobble toward the staircase at his own pace, nice and slow. Travi also took a second look up at the Tapestry. Martin was up to something, Travi could almost see a mischievous glint in the warrior mouse's eye, but shacking his head, telling himself it was probably just a flicker of light he continued on.
"Sorry about that!" he called back, stopping in place, and turning back to his companion.
Travi waved his paw as he approached. "Nah worries mate, ye can rus' on a'ead. Ah gots ta take da stairs slow anyways..." Once Travi's foot stopped hurting he would be able to hurry, but until then, it was one slightly painful step at a time...
