Physical Appearance:
General--Possessions:
Rue is an average hare. He's neither tall nor short for his age, and his build is quite unremarkable--it is neither heavy or thin, or extremely muscled, for that matter. His fur is the same sandy shade of his mother and sister Verdy, but his eyes are just like his father's, a deep blue-green, not unlike the sea's color. His face shares the fierce jawline of the family, and his ears are large and wide.
Attire--
Not yet in the Long Patrol, Rue lacks the normal regimental dress that most of the mountain's inhabitants sport. Instead he is usually bedecked in a tunic of a lighter shade, such as pale yellow or a light tan or grey. He enjoys wearing a floppy brown beret, but Verdy does not, and often removes the article from atop his head. He also sports several braided hemp bracelets on his left paw.
Ruatha's pride and joy is a willow fishing pole, the entire length wrapped in burnished copper wire, with a carefully constructed spool, and oddly large top line guide. He uses this for not only fishing, but also as a catapult/atlatl hybrid to hurl stones extremely far and with great force. He has also used it as an impromptu rapier on occasion. He also owns a beautiful chef's knife, and two paring knives, all three in well cared for barkcloth sheathes.Personality:
Rue is seriously diligent in his studies of food. Whenever the opportunity arrives to eat, aid in cooking, observe cooking, eat, cook, or eat, he is there with his paws and stomach ready for action. He is also an accomplished angler, and enjoys fishing quite a lot. Whenever he's not eating, cooking, or fishing, he's probably teasing his sister or having a mock fight with one of his friends. He is determined to become a regimental chef, and puts most of his energy into that pursuit. While he does devote most of his energy into cooking, he is also diligent in any other task required of him. He's also very meticulous, and must have everything perfect. He's even been known to attempt to throw away an imperfect pastry, as amazing as that sounds.Strengths:
Rue is a marvelous cook, and looking to become better. He is also quite accurate with his fishing pole.Weaknesses:
Like all hares, Rue has a weakness for food. His is probably worse than most hares, however, and he would quite literally do anything for food or food knowledge. Although he has attempted to fence with his fishing pole before, he's a terrible fencer, and tries to avoid swordplay. Rue is also a perfectionist almost to the point of being obnoxious.History/Background:
Ruatha is a born and bred Salamandastron Long Patrol hare. . . . Except he has yet to join the Long Patrol. Unlike many leverets, Rue has not bothered to pester the COs about joining, either. From a young age, Rue has devoted all of his time to his first love: food. As opposed to many other hares, however, Rue's love of food never lay only in eating the food, because he loved cooking the food just as much--if not more. In the first few years of his life, whenever his mother or father found him missing, they never had to look hard. All they had to do was head to the kitchens, and there he was, watching the chefs cook the Patrol's next meal. Unfortunately, the head cook constantly complained about tripping over Rue. Olive, Rue's father, came up with a brilliant solution, however: Give the child a fishing pole, and tell him that he'd be able to help cook anything he caught. Reluctantly, the head cook agreed to the scheme. Ruatha fell in love with fishing, knowing that if he caught a fish, he'd be able to help cook it. He quickly learned the basics of fishing, and brought in his first--rather tiny--fish from a tide pool. Since then, Rue has been practicing his cooking and angling obsessively.Relationships:
When Rue was ten, he discovered something quite entertaining while practicing his casting. He found that if he pulled the tip back, then released his paw while flicking his other wrist not unlike the motion used when casting, he could fling stones amazingly far. Excited with his discovery, he began perfecting the technique. Over the years, he developed not only amazing accuracy, but a specially designed pole perfect for flinging stones and reeling in fish.
- Father: Orias Lerajie Imamiah Verdelet (Nicknamed Olive). Rue's father is proud of the young hare's achievements so far, and is happy to fuel Ruatha's ambition in whatever way possible. The two are on quite good terms, and Olive is often the first to taste one of Rue's newest culinary inventions.
- Mother: Semyaza Ore Verdelet. Since Rue is her youngest son, and quite a few years younger than any of his siblings, Semmy tends to pamper Ruatha a little bit. Although Rue secretly enjoys the pampering, he's usually outwardly embarrassed.
- Older sister: Elyon Armoros Berith Verdelet. Verdy and Rue share a classic brother/sister good natured teasing relationship. Verdy mothers him at the most awkward times, and Rue returns the favor by hiding some caviar under her pillow. All in good fun.
- Older brother: Kokabiel Valefore Verdelet. Probably the most serious of the Verdelets, Kokabiel and Rue almost share a normal relationship. Koko is happy that Rue is so diligently working towards his goal of regimental chef, but dislikes the teasing relationship that Rue shares with Verdy, thinking it far to childish.
