Name: Lyrielle “Lyra” Nightfur Gender: Female Age: 21 Species: Hare Occupation: Corporal, Librarian (Part Time Job)
Physical Appearance:
It's almost like she's trying to live up to the saying that 'good things come in small packages', because she certainly is small. Built light and petite like her mother, but with her father's dark fur and distinctive facial expressions(shows best when she's angry, she looks just like him then); Cecilia Nightfur has donated a stunning pair of violet eyes, dark brown nose, and feminine, almost pixie-like facial features. It seems to be taking her a while to grow into her ears, however, this is the only thing that really messes with her otherwise proportionate figure. Though it's extremely difficult to tell, her fur actually lightens up a shade during the wintertime, thanks to her mother's far northern heritage. Occasionally obscured by thick, brown, horn-rimmed glasses when she's fulfilling her part-time job, her rock-crystal spectacles are not the only thing this haremaid's hiding behind. Having grown up a tomboy, Lyrielle is used to not caring too much about her appearance, and will usually throw on whatever's available – however, once she joined the Long Patrol, Lyrielle was extremely concerned that she'd be treated differently than some of her male friends because she's female. In order to somewhat lessen any disadvantages she may be given because of her gender, Lyrielle wears all of her uniforms a size or two too big. She likes to wear a little cream-colored messenger cap to add an even more boyish look, and has often been mistaken for a young buck whose voice hasn't changed yet. However, the illusion ends when anybeast hugs her, as her clothing can hide her feminine form the eyes but not the arms, even more so considering she's gotten a lot curvier now that she's just out of her teens.
When at her part time job as a librarian, Lyrielle sheds her 'boyish' looks almost completely, opting for a more feminine style of dress, with her thick-rimmed glasses she needs for reading; she leaves the messenger cap at home. Other than that, she'll try to be seen in her uniform at all times, and keeps from adding any feminine touches that are popular with the haremaids of the long patrol – a daisy chain bracelet here, a few ribbons there, etc – despite those sort of things appealing to her. Though Lyra is arguably quite pretty, she is torn between being somewhat self conscious about a large scar on her left shoulder and being proud of it. Though it can't really be considered a 'badge of honor', it does set her apart from the haremaids who seem to be overly concerned with their appearance, and while she doesn't flaunt the old spear injury, she doesn't try to hide it too much either.
Possessions:
Currently Lyra carries a handsome handmade claymore that used to belong to her Grandfather, and wears it strapped to her back in a sturdy black leather sheath, the strap holding it in place is normally seen diagonally across her torso. Lyrielle occasionally carries a Sgian-Dubh (small Scottish ceremonial knife) with her for added protection.
*Note: Later on, I plan for her to get two short swords that are kind of in between a claymore and a dirk in length, and resemble this in design, only with an actual guard, longer blade and a decent handle. The pommel on each one will have an obsidian stone in it.
In Lyra's possession is a beautiful bronze locket that had once belonged to her aunt; though she hardly wears it, she keeps it safely locked away in a little jewelry box, but does make a habit of cleaning it and looking at it most every night. She has thus far been unable to actually open it, as the clasp holding the two halves together appears to be broken.
Personality:
One of Lyrielle's most remarkable traits is her acceptance of everyone; not quick to judge or put down, Lyra has quite an open heart, able to accept creatures for all of their flaws and quirks, no matter how strange they seem. She's the type of gel who believes that there's a good part in every creature, and while this kind of behavior is all good and fine in the Long Patrol, when faced with foes of the vermin kind, it can cause some hesitation on the battlefield. What's odd about her seemingly infinite kindness towards others is how unkind she can be towards herself. While accepting of other people's flaws, she shuns her own, and is constantly striving for improvement, constantly trying to eradicate that hesitation she feels, pushed on by the burden of carrying such a well-known family name. Lyrielle is also touchy about stereotypes; for as long as she's been an official member of the Long Patrol, Lyrielle is always worried that all hares will see of her is looks and background, that they'll ignore (perhaps not on purpose) her talents and treat her like some pretty little haremaid who's only purpose in life is to grow up, get married and raise a bunch of leverets to join the Long Patrol. This is definitely the reason behind her dressing so boyishly; her reasoning is that if she looks like 'one of the guys', she'll be treated like one of the guys, and measured upon the same standards as everyone else. It does get tiresome, suppressing a feminine side of her that's undeniably there, but Lyrielle's a stubborn, sometimes insensible haremaid who doesn't always recognize what's good and what's bad for her.
Another big part of Lyrielle's character is her love for books; it's no surprise considering her mother teaches literature and penmanship at Salamandastron, but it really is a 'love' and not a 'like'. This resident bibliophile has landed a part time job as a librarian, and loves every minute of it – especially when she gets to reorganize the books. As for her favorite types of books, Lyrielle devours them all with an almost equal passion, but she's quite partial to adventure novels, especially if there's romance in them. There is one book in particular that she's declared her all-time-favorite, and that's a book called A Thousand Suns which was, allegedly, written by one of her ancestors on her mother's side. Besides being extremely attached to literature, Lyrielle's inherited her mother's singing ability, but keeps it well under wraps – usually only singing at holiday times and family gatherings, this talent never leaving her house. Despite being promoted to Corporal for her talents as a swordbeast, Lyrielle is obviously still young, and tends to take herself a bit too seriously, unable to take criticism or harsh corrections well. She is, however, extremely hardworking, and will literally push herself until she collapses from exhaustion, and then have the gall to consider herself weak because of it.
Because she idolizes her father, Rake Nightfur, and wants to copy his style of fighting, Lyrielle has recently been working her rear off trying to master dual-wielding claymores, however, she has neither the arm strength or the dexterity to successfully pull it off. This is a bit discouraging for her, but she'll keep trying until she learns it or hurts herself, whichever comes first.
Strengths:
- Despite being a hesitant fighter, Lyrielle is actually a better offense fighter than a defensive one, and has picked up some skill from her father with a claymore.
- Open minded and kind
- Hard Working
- Brave
Weaknesses:
- Overworking, Stresses herself out on a regular basis. Workaholic.
- A bit of a know-it-all, which some hares might find kind of annoying if she's correcting them or talking their ears off.
- Directionally challenged. Despite being fast and light, her sense of direction is so bad, it's the only reason she failed to become a scout, despite passing all other areas.
- Takes herself too seriously.
- Stubborn to a fault
- Frightened of spiders (tells everyone she's afraid of raptors instead)
- Cares too much about public opinion
History: Lyrielle “Lyra” Nightfur was born to Cecilia and Captain Rake Nightfur, two loyal citizens of Salamandastron, her father a captain of the Long Patrol, her mother a teacher of literature at the academy. Her childhood was a fairly happy one, she was dotted on by both parents, and taught to enjoy reading and music by her mother, and learned the art of swordfighting from her father. Despite growing up in a family where her father's side of the family all had highlander accents, Lyrielle never picked it up fully, and spoke with the fluidity of Cecilia Nightfur, her pronunciation always spot on. As a leveret, Lyra grew up with the children of her mother's friends, the adventurous Lulubelle (whom she calls Lulu), and the opinionated Cassandra, both with fathers in the Long Patrol. Despite being a bit of a stickler for the rules, Lyra, Cassie and Lulu had quite a bit of fun together. It was during one such occasion that she discovered haremaids were treated a bit unfairly when it came to bucks; intrigued by a group of cadets practicing archery down on the training field, Lyra and her friends had ventured down to see if they could give it a shot. One particularly snotty instructor, however, 'politely' informed them that archery wasn't a sport for haremaids, and that they should all go home and practice how to tie ribbons or sew clothes. It may have seemed like nothing besides rude to anyone else, but to Lyra it had left quite an impact. That one little incident chased her thinking completely, and it was then that Lyra started dressing like a boy in order to prevent further incidents.
Her friendship with Lulubelle and Cassie has stayed strong throughout their 15 odd years of spending time together, and while she's the only one of them who's a corporal, she certainly isn't one to make a big deal of it. While their goals have changed a bit – Lulubelle is more interested in bucks than in moving up in the ranks, and Cassie has become an apprentice at the infirmary – they can still be goofy and obnoxious around one another, just as they've always been. Aside from the archery incident and her promotion to corporal, her life has seen little-to-no major changes apart from the death of her aunt (on her mother's side), whom she greatly admired. Her aunt Clara is the original owner of the locket now in Lyra's possession, and it was passed on to her shortly before Clara died.
Relationships: Rake Nightfur (Father) Cecilia Nightfur (nee Windsong, Mother) Lulubelle (Friend) Cassandra (Friend) Clara Windsong (Aunt)
Other:
I hope it's alright that I've made her a daughter of Rake Nightfur, a character from the Rogue Crew. 0.0 I checked the FAQ, and it says that;
Am I allowed to use existing characters? Yes, though originality is best. Please refrain from using existing characters unless you have absolutely no original character ideas of you own. Please note that existing characters' profiles will be checked more thoroughly than those of original characters; accuracy will be analyzed and taken into account.
I'm hoping this is still acceptable, since I'm not tampering with the original character's personality too much, and I'm hoping it won't effect the timeline of LoRA since the Rogue Crew is the most recent novel in the series, chronologically speaking.
