Name: Tom Malvolio Goodfellow, aka, “Puck”
Gender: Male
Age: 15
Species: Squirrel
Occupation: Hooligan, Trickster, Orphan, Leader of the Lost Boys
Physical Appearance:
Puck gives off that 'stray dog' look very very well, his body being weed-like, his russet-red fur is scruffier than a hordbeast's, and he has dirt underneath all of his claws. He's creature who's used to living off the land, not home-cooked meals and lots of variety, which has left him easily a bit scrawnier than most squirrels his age (at least the ones coming out of Redwall Abbey); his tail, however, is something he's always kept clean. The simple reason is this; a tail that's covered in dirt and mud and grime is a lot heavier than a tail that's clean and brushed. The rest of him, from his dark-tufted ears to the dark tan fur from his chest down to his legs (which was once-upon-a-time white ), is usually covered in all manner of dirt and dust and other souvenirs of a life spent exclusively outdoors.
Puck may be thinner than most squirrels his age, but he does appear to be a lot taller than they are, given to his weedy appearance and haughty attitude. Contributing this air of 'holier-than-thou' appearances are Puck's eyes, which are as green as laurel wreathes, bright with an impish, up-to-no-good gleam. Everything about his thin but oddly attractive face gives off the impression that something foul is about to happen – either food is going to get stolen or someone's going to start crying, and that means Puck's work here is done. His nose is dark brown.
Puck often smells of pine needles, not just because his home is in a towering pine tree, but because he's prone to chewing on them when he's bored.
{Clothing}
Puck's typical attire is meager at best, his only article of clothing being a pair of extremely tattered leaf-green breeches with frayed edges, a few tears and threadbare spots all over them. Aside from this, Puck can be seen wearing a crown made of laurel leaves, his symbol as Leader of the Lost Boys, and a thorny cuff on each wrist made from the twigs of a bramble patch. The thorns were cut off on the side that lays against his wrists.
Possessions:
Puck's chosen form of weaponry is a simple dagger he keeps tied to the outside of his left thigh, a green & black quiver of arrows (the arrows all sport feathers from a red hen or a cardinal ), a sling he's made himself, and a longbow made of hickory.
Aside from the weapons he carries, Puck keeps at his home a small locket with pictures of his parents in it, and a dirty red handkerchief from someone very dear to him.
Personality:
Puck is every bit the mischievous little pest everyone thinks he is. Rude, insulting, this bad-mouthed squirrel could verbally knock the socks off you in a battle of tongues. Besides the insults, Puck has a general sense of “I don't care, and why should I?” attitude towards the opinions and problems of others; he blows off responsibility most of the time, and generally does whatever his wicked, immature little heart desires. He steals things, throws pinecones at travelers, insults anyone who looks at him funny, leads children astray and generally causes a great deal of mayhem. Puck is the sort of creature who revels in his independence and freedom, laughs at boundaries and limits, and absolutely can't stand it when anyone tries to restrict him in any way, shape, or form. Living on his own for so long, with no beast to care for him and no one to tell him what to do, he's developed a sense of entitlement, an obnoxious, haughty attitude that can quickly turn to meanness should anyone ever challenge his leadership.
He absolutely hates it when other creatures show him any sort of sympathy, and can turn rather nasty to anyone trying to be overly kind to him because he's “a poor orphan boy who doesn't know any better”. Puck takes immediate insult to any older beast who treats him like a little kid (even if he is deserving of such treatment), and is quick to let them know exactly how insulted he truly is.
Packaged with his immaturity is a pride even bigger than his ego, and he's careful not to do anything that would compromise his role as leader or embarrass himself in any way. This is the reason why he's not very fond of water; Puck can't swim, and to avoid letting anyone know this, he avoids water like the plague, which is generally one of the reasons why he's never really that clean. His feet are so horrendously dirty, you'd think he was wearing black socks.
Despite acting like he has everything figured out, and that the commentary of other creatures doesn't bother him at all, it does. He's been known to get rather sulky or upset if his buttons have been pushed too far, and contradicting his lazy, careless (and sometimes chauvinistic) behavior, he is secretly an extremely hardworking creature. He doesn't let anybeast see him practicing his weapons, or patching up any wounds, or learning a new skill. He'd much rather they think of him as being up on a pedestal, far away from the rest of them than think he is a creature with faults. Behind his rowdy, tawdry behavior, Puck does care very deeply for the Lost Boys he's been leading, and isn't the kind of creature to leave a beast behind (so long as you're one of the few creature he calls 'friend').

History:
Puck has not always been addressed as Puck; in fact, there was a point in his life in which he had a much longer name, a family and a home beyond the pine grove he currently resides in. Puck was born Tom Malvolio Goodfellow, to Robin and Griswald Goodfellow, two peaceful residents of Mossflower. The Goodfellow family divided their time between Redwall Abbey in the fall, winter and spring, and their summer home at the edge of Mossflower Wood.
However, the Goodfellows stayed later at the their summer home than usual, as they had been unable to make a decision whether to reside at Redwall Abbey to continue raising little Tom, or stay where they were and visit the Abbey every other year. This indecision cost them more than they'd ever bargained for, as, upon making their way back to Redwall Abbey – having decided that it would be best to continue doing what they'd always done – what would later be called the Winter of a Thousand Blizzards fell upon the squirrel family. Tom, barely over three-years-old, was kept warm as his parents huddled together in a tree hollow, having no other choice but to ride out the storm or hope somebeast would come and get them.
Unfortunately, the fates had other plans.
When the storm finally let up sometime the next morning, Tom Malvolio Goodfellow had become an orphan, his parents frozen on either side of him. The three year old wailed until his voice gave out, and some kind beast finally stumbled upon the little hollow, scooped him up and took him someplace to get warm.
That kind beast had been Raff, a middle-aged otter who chose to wander instead of reside at the welcoming Redwall Abbey, preferring to stay a free spirit for as long as his life lasted. Taking the baby squirrel into his arms, the river otter carried him away to his home, a small den built into the base of a towering pine tree. Intending to take Tom to Redwall once he could make the journey, Raff unexpectedly found himself quite taken with the little creature, and made a very selfish decision.
He'd raise Tom himself.
For five more years, the newly named Puck spent his life in the pine grove where Raff lived, otter and squirrel living off the land without a care in the world. Raff tried to teach him as much as he could, about the lands and creatures that lay beyond their little pine grove, but Pucks' attention span was short and Raff's lecture-voice was boring, and Puck was orphaned a second time with little more than a forager's knowledge and basic survival skills. Still, they were enough, and Puck, now eight years old, learned to adapt to his new-found freedom – and loneliness – resorting to any means necessary to keep himself alive.
A few more years passed and Puck had finally gotten the hang of being on his own, and had even taught himself how to fire a bow, use a sling, and fight with a dagger. Thirteen and with all the time in the world, Puck set his sights on the rose-hued walls of everybeast's favorite Abbey. Though he had little interest in living that kind of lifestyle, Puck did have an interest in curbing his loneliness a bit. It wasn't long before Puck picked up on a few things about some of the dibbuns that lived there...
Several of them were orphans, just like him.
With all the slyness a trickster such as himself could muster, Puck lured two young dibbuns from the safety of those rose-hued walls, two 5 year old squirrels called Tagg and Bumble, and took them back to the pine grove to live with him.
Through various misfortunes and chance meetings, Puck's small group of “Lost Boys” grew from two little squirrels to an otter called Boon, a black squirrel called Leer, and two stout little hedgehogs called Grisle and Mavin.
Now 15-years-old, Puck's place as leader of the Lost Boys has not wavered, and he's still just as insolent, rude and bold as he's always been, only this time he has a group of friends to back him up.
Relationships:
Raff – River Otter – Deceased, the otter who raised him.
Robin Goodfellow – Red Squirrel – Deceased, Puck's Mother. Froze to Death.
Griswald Goodfellow – Red Squirrel – Deceased, Puck's Father. Froze to Death.
{Lost Boys}
Boon – Sea Otter – Orphan – 13
Leer – Black Squirrel – Orphan – 15
Tagg – Grey Squirrel – Orphan – 7
Bumble – Gray Squirrel – Orphan – 7
Grisle – Hedgehog – Orphant – 5
Mavin – Hedgehog – Orphan – 5
Other:
yeah...this character is a weird mixture of Peter Pan, Puck from A Mid-Summer Night's Dream, a little Tom Riddle thrown in, and a few random elements that kinda just came to me.
...It's safe to say my brain can be a bit of a blender sometimes. Haha, well, when you can't be original, at least be creative when borrowing everyone else's ideas? -cough-
Malvolio = ill will, from another play by Shakespeare.
Goodfellow = the surname of Puck (Robin Goodfellow) from a Mid-Summer Night's Dream.
Tom = xD because I found his middle name before I found his first name, I slapped Tom on there as his first name, because Malvolio reminded me of Marvolo.
Oh, wasn't sure where to put this, but the locket Puck has was one his parents gave him when he was a baby, as a little keepsake should they ever get separated. The dirty handkerchief is the only thing he's kept to remind himself of Raff, and he doesn't like showing it to other people.
