Name: Southpaw Sebastian Varilde
Moniker: Southpaw “Bloodfire” Varilde
Gender: Male
Age: 25
Species: Salamandastron Hare
Occupation: Scout/Galloper/Boxer of the Long Patrol
Physical Appearance:
Southpaw Varilde is a lanky, sturdy young hare with 'sun-kissed', tawny golden fur and bright, clear blue eyes. The older of a set of twins, there are few distinguishing characteristics between Southpaw and his brother Eastpaw, but the few that exist are noticeable to those with keen eyes. Brawnier in build than his brother, Southpaw is also shorter than Eastpaw by no more than half an inch, but his particularly long ears and legs make his height somewhat of an optical illusion. Southpaw's eyes gleam with a rough and battle-ready light, though noticeably blue, they tend to glow with a greenish tinge when Southpaw's in a particularly strong mood. Being the less serious of the two, this is reflected in the bright, happy and occasionally wry smile on his face, this hare's handsome mug set in either a look of youthful exuberance or carefree contentment. Staying consistent to a sharp exercise routine, Southpaw's earned every thick scab and cracked callous covering his fore and footpaws, the young hare having worked extremely hard to add strength to his speedy limbs, often supporting his brother in a terrific tag team the likes of which could fell a half-score of vermin.
As for clothing, Southpaw is content with wearing the traditional green tunic of a fighting Long Patrol hare, complete with earth-brown trousers, a black belt around his middle, and a nondescript leather dagger-sheathe wrapped around the outside of his left thigh. Being an extremely capable boxer, Southpaw wears thick, black, fingerless gloves with built-in wrist-guards with steel studs over the part covering his knuckles for that extra knock-out punch. Southpaw prefers to keep the top one or two buttons of his uniform undone to prevent overheating. In the summer he wears the uniform tunic without sleeves, and the pants rolled up to his knees. Underneath the tunic, however, starting at the middle of his upper left arm, is a nicely designed flame-like tribal pattern tattooed over his golden fur. Though it only reaches the tip of his shoulder now, he intends to have it cover the entire left side of his upper body, stopping at the edge of the shoulder blade, beneath the side of his head, and halfway across his chest. The tattoo lengthens by an inch each year he serves as an officer of the Long Patrol.
Possessions:
Southpaw carries with him a seax (or sax) – a versatile six-inch dagger – with a brass pommel and guard to match the brass tacks that are studded into the handle for a better grip. The handle is made of oak. Aside from his dagger, Southpaw occasionally carries a canteen of water for those long, arduous treks, and an orange handkerchief tucked somewhere on person to mop up the sweat.
Personality:
Southpaw is a bold, brash, sometimes even rude member of the Long Patrol, everything about his personality some indication that he is meant to be noticed – whether it's from his unstoppable determine and drive, to his loudness, impatience and inattentiveness on the parade grounds. Not the least bit shy, he's quick to make friends, quick to smile, but slow to forgive his enemies and anyone that insults his family. Southpaw can, at times, come off as a bit obnoxious, boastful and extremely overconfident – much to the agitation of those around him – but when a serious situation requires a serious response, Southpaw's your hare. Never slow to act, he contradicts his normal behavior by following orders, listening attentively to his superiors, and keeping a tight lip on any smart remarks he may've otherwise said had the situation not been so dire. Though the oldest of the Varilde children, Southpaw is probably one of the least responsible – occasionally shirking his duties in favor of fishing in the warm shoals, dozing in the sand, or practicing his boxing moves – prone to goof off rather than get any actual work done. A prankster alongside his brother Eastpaw, Southpaw's motives seem to come from a desire to be acknowledged, to form a small line of separation between himself and Eastpaw – not to disregard their closeness at all, but to make others see that 'hey, he's a pretty cool guy too.' Southpaw loves his family deeply, there's not a beast alive apart from himself and Eastpaw who are more devoted, but sometimes, Southpaw can feel a little inferior, oftentimes jealous of his particularly skilled twin.
This jealousy stems from his naïve views toward Bloodwrath – a trait Eastpaw has undoubtedly inherited from their mother – which is something he feels he too, should've inherited, being the first born. He envies Eastpaw's invincibility in this state, not totally realizing what it may cost him (or his family) if he were to get too close. He views the Bloodwrath as a connection with their mother, Captain “Wild” Amber Varilde, and shows some disappointment in having inherited more of his father's fighting abilities instead. Still, Southpaw tries very hard to keep pace with his brother – who is admittedly a tad faster and quicker on the punch than he is – and can grow a little discouraged when he seems to fall short in any area. In spite of his carefree, sometimes lazy behavior, Southpaw does take his job seriously, often taking pride in his duties as a galloper of the Long Patrol – but his real goal is to become a Captain like his mother, and then a major like his father. He has big dreams for himself, and enough determination and drive to achieve them (now we just have to work on his intelligence).
