Name: Thrish
Gender: Male
Age: 18 Years (72 Seasons)
Species: Squirrel
Occupation: Adventurer, Freelance escort/bodyguard
Physical Appearance:
Like most red squirrels, Thrish’s coat is more orange-brown than it is red. His coat is nothing special with any extraordinary markings. Perhaps if your nitpicking, you could say that his fur get’s darker around his eyes. He is a pinch above the average height of a squirrel. A lightweight which makes him all the more agile. Like the common red squirrel, he has a great bushy red tail.
He’s a very handsome kid, popular with the ladies, and underestimated by older warriors. It’s not every day that you see someone so young, that’s a skilled warrior. Because of this he is sometimes overlooked. This is partially the reason as to why he wears a disguise. Of course there are other reasons, but wearing the skull of an enemy provides him with a bit of stature. When he is fighting or is needed as a warrior, you will see him wearing the bird skull. Along with the feathers, he could almost be mistaken for a ghostly apparition.
Thrish wears some pretty common clothing, nothing fancy or embroiled with nifty designs. He is a warrior on the road, A shirt open in the front with feathers hanging from his arms. One of which is equipped with chainmail underneath. Loose fitting pants that are wrapped tightly with cloth towards the bottoms of his legs. A pair of clunky brown boots fit for adventures. Underneath his open shirt is a finely weaved chainmail, that provides light protection for his body.
Possessions
Thrish does not really have many personal belongings or trinkets that would weigh him down. His positions include the cloths on his back, a fine crafted spear, shoulder pack, his skull helmet, and a pair of wings. Yes, Thrish has a pair of feathers sewn together that hang under each arm. Providing nothing more than an illusion of a bird. The left arm’s feathers were also sewn in with chainmail on the inside. Forming a lightweight shield that no enemy would expect. The illusion of his form is also helped by the skull of an enemy bird, which Thrish now wears as a protective helmet.
His weapon is nothing way too fancy. It’s a lot taller than Thrish, however, he prefers his weapon that way. The blade is actually a green steel, with a silver guard just below the blade. Most of the weapon, of course, is the pole that supports the blade. This part of the weapon is a smooth woodcut brown.
Personality:
There was a time when Thrish thought that he’d never be able to trust anyone ever again. He spent four seasons traveling the land on his own. This either matured him or led him to realize that he needed friendships. Though he’s constantly in search of work, he’s also on the lookout for allies. He’ll do just about anything to the best of his ability for the pay he receives, usually a bite to eat. That goes ditto for the friends that he makes.
He is a very nice guy, polite, and brave. He’ll stand up for whatever he believes is right, and won’t think twice about helping a goodbeast in danger. However, he is not brave in every department. When it comes to a pretty girl, he trips over himself and becomes tongue twisted. He’s popular among warriors once they see him in action, however they often underestimate him for his youth and appearance. Because of this he usually tends to wear a bird skull and some make shaft wings that disguise his appearance. He tends to do the most risky things, never quite understanding his own limitations.
Outside of combat, Thrish loves quite a few activities. Singing and coming up with little rhymes while he’s on the road. Eating, especially when it comes to fine crafted foods. Doing just about anything with a friend, games, talking, just playing around, you name it. He has a very youthful spirit and acts like a dibbun half the time. In the same note, he avoids taking baths.
Strengths:
Thrish is almost unmatchable with a spear in his hands. He is also a great climber and acrobatic like most of his species. He’s fast in movement and he’s equally fast with his weapon.
Weaknesses:
Though he is great with a spear, Thrish lacks most skills in any other form of weaponry. If his weapon breaks or he is caught without it, he’ll be in a lot of trouble. He also lacks a lot of strength in his speed. If you’re a big tanker, you can probably blow off some of his strikes. Thrish will not accept the fact that he has limits, rather he does not realize that he has any. He’ll push him to the limit for whatever reason and this can get him caught in nasty situations. He’s also none too fond of water, even as a dibbun he hated to take baths.
History:
Thrish was not born into a safe place like Redwall Abbey. Instead, he was born into a squirrel tribe that had rivaled with a band of birds for at least two generations before he was born. The land in which they fought over was prime living conditions for both sides. The tribe of squirrels had been nomadic up until they found the land. It was only short after that the birds moved in and tried to force them out. Both sides were stubborn and stayed, which pushed the peaceful land into a state of war.
The nomadic squirrels quickly evolved into a tribe of warriors and their children were trained in combat from a very young age. Yes, they tried to enjoy life, but it was more important to defend their lives.
Thrish was second born to Bruck and Teem. Bruck held a great amount of status in the tribe as their lead warrior. This put a lot of pressure on his children who he personally trained. There was a lot more pressure on Bankin and Thrish as compared to the other children in the tribe. They were pushed hard and molded into great warriors. It was not always training and they managed to maintain a carefree, happy life outside of combat.
Made friends, enjoyed dinner parties, danced and sang. Thrish even made best friends with a grey squirrel by the name of Strut. The two began to train together and look out for one another. When they came of age, they would also fight with one another. Making sure that the other was not slain in combat.
However, they couldn’t always watch over one another’s backs. One day they were thrown into a chaotic battle in which they were separated from one another. Along with some others, Strut was captured as prisoners. The birds tried to force information from the prisoners but they got no word. That excluded Strut who squealed like a hog when they promised to release the prisoners for information.
With the information given to them, they led an end all attack on the unsuspecting squirrel tribe who were in the midst of sending a party out to rescue the prisoners. Everyone who did not die defending his or her ground was captured. However, they were not killed or forced into slavery, as one would expect. They were released, but no on their own conditions. They were forced into the mountain and pushed towards it’s summit. Their only way out was up the mountain and down the other side. This was a prime place for the birds to pick them off.
The survivors included Thrish’s family and a few prisoners like Strut. Everyone had of course already learned of Strut’s betrayal from the other prisoners. They shunned him but also realized that they needed all the allies they could muster and that it would also be wrong to leave him to his own. Thrish abandoned friendship in his ally, refusing to have anything to do with him. Together the remainder of the tribe quick crafted basic weapons by sharpening sticks and stones. Preparing themselves to fight with any means necessary. They held up pretty well, forcing off the attacks from the birds. Only loosing one or two on the way up. Even on the way down, they only lost minimum numbers.
This of course angered the enemy birds. As a last resort to dispatch their enemies, they met with the tribe survivors at the bottom of the mountain. It was a great fight, which the squirrels managed to gain the upper hand because they were fighting at the end of the line. Everything was on the line for them, while the birds could always retreat to the land that was now their own.
A general crow by the name of Vess slew the grey squirrel Strut. Thrish would not have wished for his ally to die, even though he was mad with him. Seeing him fall, and remembering the good times he had with his comrade, brought a mad rage into the young warrior. He fought with Vess, and when he slew the enemy bird there was a loud call for retreat. If it was not enough that fleeing survivors were dropping their troops, one of their generals had been killed. This greatly dropped the moral of the birds, and unnerved most of them.
Now this was not so weird among Thrish’s tribe, but while the wounded and dead were tended too. Thrish gathered the skull and feathers from the general Vess. Some of the tribe wore the skull and feathers of their opponents to blend in with the enemy. There was not much more of a reason to do so, but perhaps Thrish did so for his fallen ally.
After gaining their freedom, the tribe of squirrels simply moved on. They already knew the ways of a nomadic lifestyle. Thrish, however, decided that he would branch off from his tribe. Explore the world on his own for awhile and perhaps clear his head. He was a bit mixed up with everything that had happened. Trust was not so easy after your best fried lets you down in the worst of ways, or perhaps he was finding it hard to trust when he himself could not have forgiven his best friend. Maybe if he had, Strut would still be alive.
He spent nearly a year alone and greatly improved his fighting skills in jobs and adventures. However, after awhile he started to miss having friends and allies. He knew that searching for his family would be hard since they were a nomadic tribe. Finding them in the wide world would be even harder than finding a needle in a haystack. Since he can’t easily find his family, he continues to search for work and adventure. However, he’s also on the lookout for a tribe of friendly beasts.
Relationships:
Vess: Not much of a relation, but you can see him on top of Thrish’s head if ever he’s wearing his helmet. Vess was a general among the enemies of Thrish’s tribe.
Bruck: Father to Thrish and lead warrior of his tribe.
Teem: Mother to Thrish
Bankin: Brother to Thrish
Strut: Thrish’s best friend. (Traitor)(Deceased)
