Physical Appearance: Fekkan is a tall, thin shrew, with thick, light-brown fur and a fairly fat tail. His eyes are brown and a little beady. When with the Guosim, he was a champion sling-thrower, and the size of his biceps show for that. Being a recorder, his paws are usually stained with ink. He wears the typical green Redwall habit. A defining, roguish feature that betrays his old days as a Guosim is a tattoo on his sling of a paddle crossed with a loaded sling on his ankle.
Possessions: At his habit cord belt, Fekkan always has a little pouch which holds his writing supplies: quill, quill knife, ink bottle, and birchbark parchment. In times of crisis at Redwall, he wears a sling at his belt as well, but it is absent in times of peace.
Personality: Fekkan is a very genial, yet quiet beast. He has good concentration, which helps when he sits in the gatehouse or library for hours at a time; researching, recording, or just plain reading. He views any time at the abbey well-spent. He loves his home, and is very fierce in protecting it. Although a peaceful Redwaller now, he still holds hard to the Guosim view that "the only good vermin is a dead vermin".
Strengths: He is good with a sling, is very patient, and never fails in his recording duties.
Weaknesses: Fekkan's temper can get the better of him with contrary beasts. Sometimes he is too much of a recluse, avoiding any other beast for a few days at a time if he's really into reading a certain book. Fekkan isn't very good with dibbuns at all, he cannot control them and may shout at them if they're being naughty, which isn't very effective.
History: Fekkan was born a Guosim, a distant cousin several times removed of the Log-a-Log. He grew up like all the other shrews, and emerged to be one of the Guosims's best slingers. He used to be one of the rowdiest shrews, until in a skirmish with a band of foxes, his brother Annden was killed. This made Fekkan stop and think about life, and he realized that death was a terrible thing. He didn't want much more to do with it, but knew that he would have to face it, living with the Guosim. One autumn the Guosim visited Redwall. Fekkan was nineteen seasons at the time. He found the abbey very peaceful, and decided that he wanted to live there. Log-a-Log was loathe to see him go, knowing that he was a good warrior. But nonetheless, he let Fekkan stay. Fekkan could neither read nor write very well, so he was taught how to and found that he loved it. When the position of Recorder became open when he was twenty, he was offered it by the Abbot/Abbess and has done his duties well for seven years.
