Not a moment after the red-nosed weasel placed his paw against the tree, another paw wrapped itself around his throat. There was a mirthless chuckle. "Tsk, tsk. Friends with a shrew?" The next instant, the fox had clubbed Vaygan over the head and disappeared into the woods. The camp was left a tall weasel short. ~~~~~~~~~"Can ye, now?" Ban asked, unconvinced. "Guess it's only fair. Ye've botched it up this much, eh?"Tobias shrugged. ~~~~~~~~~As Dandin followed Nik's sister back to the tent, he could think only of the fox. If this were the fox's doing, and it almost undoubtedly was, Jaroah knew it wouldn't be about the shrews. It was about the mice. The fox would definitely be out for blood now, and by the sound of it, he had brought friends. But what could possibly be going through that fox's head? What was he planning? ~~~~~~~~~"He's planning to pull a con on me'n' my brother," Tobias explained as he and Ban walked out of the tent. "Just like we did to him. The difference is, he's doing it outta revenge. An' that's where he'll mess up. See, he's not after yore shrews, really. He's after me." Tobias stopped next to Night and Day. He knelt beside the injured shrew. Her eyes were closed. Tobias glanced up at Day. "She awake?" ~~~~~~~~~Just as Dandin reached the tent, it occurred to Jaroah: If the fox were after the thieves, then the last thing Jaroah would want to do is hide here all day. It would only worsen the collateral damage. He turned to the shrewmaid. Suddenly, his eyes rolled back into his head an instant before he closed them; his right paw shook violently as he held it to the side of his head. Everything stopped immediately as he opened his eyes and stared right into the shrewmaid's. "Yore father died in battle, didn't he?"
((Jaroah's gonna pretend to be a seer. Also. Jan, just assume Tobias asked to leave to check on Night while he was in the tent. He's going to try to learn everything he can about the fox from Night.))

((OOC: Hey guys! Just to keep this thread going I'm going to post, but if there's something wrong with it feel free to let me know and I'll fix it right up!))
Deciding he may have better luck asking some shrews of the whereabouts of the alcohol, Bon Vaygan was about to move when a paw wrapped around his throat and an odd chuckle broke the silence.
"Tsk, tsk. Friends with a shrew?"
Before he could do anything all was dark.
...
.......
...................W-what?
Slowly at first, but gradually Bon Vaygan's consciousness returned to him and a faint light broke through the absolute darkness of oblivion. His eyes were still closed, but he felt some sort of rag tied across them. He must have been blind-folded. He tried to move his paws to lift the fold, but then realized his arms were tied around some sort of tree with his paws bound by some rope. Disturbed by his situation, Bon Vaygan began to try and recall what had got him in this situation in the first place.
He thought for some time, but could only remember alcohol. Thinking that perhaps sobriety was something he should look into the voice he had heard before being clubbed popped into his head. That explained the pounding feeling in his head, but why was he clubbed? Just the then the conversation with the younger shrew and Nik returned from the recesses of his mind. Had he been kidnapped? Of all days today was the day to be kidnapped?
Bon Vaygan sighed and reflected on his options and the situation he was in. His mouth was free so perhaps he could call for help. However, it also occurred to him that he could also attract the attention of his kidnapper or something worse. There did not seem to be any other options, however. That kidnapped shrew... was he (she? Sorry I forgot XD) around anywhere? He could not hear much of anything going on so he decided to give a quick shout.
"Hello?" he spoke unsure of what to expect.

"Vaygen!" Nik barked, checking the perimeter of the camp for the third time. Where was that weasel? Rapier drawn, the shrew chieftain kept his eyes and ears open as he moved stealthily among his shrews.
-----
"She awake?"
Day shot a glare to the mouse, but Ban shook his head. "Stan' down, Day," he said. "Tobias needs t'talk t'Night." Day raised an eyebrow. Night let out a tiny groan as she leaned against her sister, pale eyes turning to the mouse.
"Yeah?" she murmured. "Whass'e need?" Her words were slurred.
-----
"Yore father died in battle, didn't he?"
Nik's sister froze mid-step. Her green eyes went wide as she whirled on the mouse. A red blush colored her face, and she nodded ever so hesitantly. "How . . . how did you know that?" she asked quietly, obviously quite shocked.
-----
Fllora, the captured shrew, was not happy about her situation. Trussed up with coarse ropes, the young shrewmaid struggled against her bonds like mad, eyes flashing as she uttered dark curses from behind her gag. The vermin had lashed her to a tree, but it didn't stop her from shouting muffled threats.
"Hello?" he spoke unsure of what to expect.
Fllora didn't know why the vermin had tied up another vermin, but it really wasn't her concern. She had to get out of here! But she was nothing she could do. Except scream more insults through the gag.
((Ah, sorry. That was scattered.))

"Yeah?" she murmured. "Whass'e need?" Her words were slurred.This might be harder than he'd hoped. Tobias' eyes focused on Night's intently. He spoke in a soft, soothing voice. "What do you remember about the vermin, Night?" He needed to get inside Night's mind and, from there, inside the fox's mind. Normally, it would prove a futile attempt, regardless of what or how much Night remembered, but Tobias had already met the mark. He had nearly all the information he needed. ~~~~~~~~~Nik's sister froze mid-step. Her green eyes went wide as she whirled on the mouse. A red blush colored her face, and she nodded ever so hesitantly. "How . . . how did you know that?" she asked quietly, obviously quite shocked. Jaroah wanted to smile. This sort of trick rarely worked. The mouse stayed in character. "I'm a seer. I get visions sometimes, and I--" He froze, staring into the forest blankly. After a moment, he snapped back to reality. "Your brother. Nik. He's in trouble." Dandin placed a paw on the shrewmaid's shoulder and looked into her eyes, all in a somewhat melodramatic fashion. "Ah need tae warn him!" And with that, he ran off to find Nik.
((Er, sorry. Such a long wait for such a short post. I hate finals. ))

"What do you remember about the vermin, Night?"
The shrewmaid clicked her tongue in annoyance. "I'unno," she mumbled. "Were a' leas' six foxes, an' . . . can' 'member . . . t'irteen all, mebbe?" She rubbed her head. "No, fi'teen, sorry. Some ra's, an' like five stoa's. They was . . . carryin' daggers and such. Think one a' 'em 'ad a long blade . . ." She paused, thinking for a moment longer, and then she shrugged. "'S all I got."
-----
Nik's sister, needless to say, was rather frazzled with the big mouse who claimed to be a seer. She opened her mouth to say something about his so-called 'visions' when he put a paw on her shoulder.
"Ah need tae warn him!"
"Wait!" she shouted as he ran off. "You have to stay in the--Oh, forget it!" The mouse was confusing her, anyway. One moment, he sounded like a normal beast, then the next he was a Highland seer. It just didn't make sense.
-----
Nik cursed below his breath as he stood near the water's edge, just outside the camp perimeter. There was still no sign of Bon Vaygen, and the shrew chieftain was seriously hoping that the weasel had simply slipped off during the festivities earlier and gone home. But, considering the circumstances, Nik was forced to weigh other, more unpleasant options.
((No worries, T. Sorry if I didn't give y'all much to go on.))

((Whoops! Lemme unfreeze us here! XD))
Bon Vaygan waited a moment and was sure some beast would whack him over the head once more. He didn't like the thought of that, his head was still sore from the other blow. However, as he listened, Bon Vaygan could almost hear some muffled shouts not far from where he was bound. Was that the other shrew?
Bon Vaygan thought for a moment. It seemed that he was being held with the shrew, but why? All he had wanted was something to drink and here he was tied to a tree with a hostage. The motive; however, did not matter. Finding some way out did. Perhaps he could work something out with the other hostage.
"Er...hello there? Other hostage?" he called, "I may be a weasel, but I am just as much a hostage as you are! If we want to get out of here we should probably work together on this, understand? Give a muffled shout for 'yes', keep shouting for a 'no'"

Tobias furrowed his brow. Fifteen? That. . . Come to think of it, fifteen didn't sound like a con -- it sounded more like a straightforward attack. But. . . but the fox was a thief too, and Tobias was sure he had been correct in pegging him as the sort of beast to take revenge in a poetic-justice sort of way. . . None of this added up.
No. It was too early to start making assumptions. For now, they would have to play by the fox's rules. . . Tobias sighed. ". . . Uh, thanks, Night. For that. I'll, uh-- we'll make sure to. . ." For the sixth time this week, Tobias was at a loss for words. ". . . We'll fix this. You just, uh, focus on. . . yeah." Tobias rose to his footpaws and turned to Ban.
It was hard to admit, but the genius mouse was simply not on top of things this time. Normally, everything was so cut-and-dry, not all haphazard, personal, and generally hopeless. "Okay. . . Okay, uhhh the fox is-- he's gotta be trying t'plan something. Tryin' t'set up his own game, which me an' my brother are supposed to inevitably lose. Problem is, he's probably focusing on us, an' not you." He pointed at Ban. "So, I think we can use that to our advantage. All I have to do is play along, be where the fox expects me to be so he can do some pre-game gloating. After that, everything gets a lot harder. So, I have a proposal I'd like t'make. . ."
~~~~~~~~~
Jaroah sulked a bit. This was really an off day for him. First he was forgetting his dialect, and now he couldn't even pull of acting like a seer. Granted, he normally had plenty of time to get into character before a deception, and there was also the fact that he was a bit punch-drunk right now, but still, he was a grifter; improvisation was supposed to be his talent.
"Nik!" Dandin appeared, determined to stay in character this time. He couldn't think straight, but that really didn't occur to him. "Ah think they were kidnapped." He paused there, assuming that the shrew chieftain was about to interrupt him anyway.
~~~~~~~~~
"Are you kidding me!"
His name was Torr, and he was unhappy.
"A weasel, and a shrew. That's it. That's the best you could do."
The fox ran a paw through his head-fur. Perfect. This was perfect. Weeks he'd spent, planning ahead, making sure nothing could possibly go wrong, and of course the most simple, obvious mistakes had been made.
"W-well, technically, sir, it was uh-Grunn's fault. Aaand besides, he stayed inna middle of camp the 'ole time. We couldn'ta just run in'ere an' grabbed 'im."
Torr wanted strangle them. All fourteen. They'd moved in a group. A group. How on earth was he supposed to carry out his plan when they'd only captured two unimportant beasts, and the entire shrew army, or whatever, was now on guard?
". . . Okay, fine, Grunn, go drown yourself in the river. Baggan, you go find me another shrew. Check the northwest side; their defenses should be weaker there. If you can't do it-- please feel free to let those shrews stab you, repeatedly. . . Go-- GO! . . . Okay, you two. With me. Let's go."
((Okay, confusing. But uh, here's my attempt at explaining. Tobias wants to leave the camp-area and move back toward the main camp, where Jaroah is. He expects that, at some point, the fox will stop him along the way and begin the aforementioned pre-game gloating. Tobias wants to go but with the protection of shrews, preferably ones that keep just far away enough to stay hidden from whoever's watching Tobias, yet close enough to jump in and help if necessary. Tobias also wants Ban to accompany him personally, for...well, various strategic reasons.
Torr, who is the fox, is actually going toward Vaygan and Fllora, whom he intends to relocate in just a bit. They'll be separated after that, so get whatever conversation you want between them outta the way before things start up.
Also, I do apologize for my slowness. I'm like...post-flavored molasses...))
