Name: Koa Shorehound
Gender: Male
Age: 5
Species: Sea Otter
Occupation: Dibbun. Self-Proclaimed Official Water Splasher.
Physical Appearance:
Koa is the typical Otterbabe, a rich chocolate brown in color, his fur is soft and smooth, with lighter buff-colored fur along his throat/jaw and the tips of his ears, which are rounded like two small buttons. His eyes are a warm light brown, playful and curious. Koa is actually considered tall for his age, as noted by some of the adult otters at Redwall, he is likely to grow up into a lean and lanky youngster before they know it.
Koa is never seen without his green sea-glass pendent, which he wears around his neck on a small leather cord, and refuses to take it off – even at bath time!
The little otterbabe, despite being only 5 summers old, has lost much of his 'baby fat', and is starting to turn into a slim, sturdy little fellow, with strong paws, solid rudder and sharp little otter teeth. He'll turn into a right little terror before long, and pity be to any good-beast, vermin or otherwise who takes that necklace from him!
As for clothing, this Otterbabe isn't particularly fond of them, and it's only in the cold days of winter that anyone can convince him to actually wear decent clothes. Most of the time (Spring, Summer) he can be seen wearing some simple sage-green trousers that cut off at the knees, and in the Fall he can be found with a cream-colored sleeveless tunic on for those chillier days.
However, Koa has been known to take off his clothes whenever he goes swimming. This is due to the fact that he has to take off his clothes when he's getting a bath, so he's linked two and two together, and can often be seen making a dash for the abbey pond, stark naked.
The Skipper's had to fish the bare Otterbabe out of the pond on several, several occasions.
Possessions:
Aside from that green sea-glass pendent, Koa occasionally carries around a stick he uses to poke under rocks with (or occasionally poke unsuspecting Abbey-dwellers), a few stones he happens to like, and the occasional handful of candied chestnuts, which he takes into the water with him (He doesn't care if they're a little soggy).
Personality:
There's no question about it, Koa's favorite thing in the world (besides his pendent) is the water. It doesn't matter what kind – stream, river, lake, pond, even well water – he'll want to go play in it, drink it, roll in it. He'd sleep in it if he could somehow get his bed to float. With Koa's natural affinity for water comes his seemingly endless amounts of curiosity. This curiosity breeds an adventurous nature, this little but determined creature fascinated by the world around him – and plans to explore every bit he can get his little webbed paws on.
Koa has an easy time picking up new skills and trying various things; he'd be the first dibbun to try a new kind of food, the first dibbun to go check out that ditch, and he'd be bounding out in front if anyone ever suggested a new kind of game. He seems to be a happy, confident little creature who's good at most of the things he tries, with the exception of dancing and singing. He seems to lack any natural rhythm, regardless of the kind of music playing. He's not very good with words, unfortunately, and can sometimes get very frustrated if he can't figure out how to say what he really means to say.
This curious dibbun can sometimes be incredibly disobedient, stubborn, gluttonous, and is prone to tantrums when he doesn't get his way, often pouting when he gets scolded. He can clash heads with some of the other stronger minded dibbuns, and can be the occasional fight-starter/trouble-maker, but Koa, if fed, bathed and played with, is usually the happiest of otterbabes.
Sometimes he doesn't always learn to stay away from certain things the first time, (i.e., the ovens. If the Friar says it's hot, he has to touch it to make sure, and then touch it again to make doubly-sure it wasn't just hot that one rare time) and can often be seen trying the same silly thing again – just in case he missed something earlier.
The little rogue is quite a jolly creature, and if treated kindly, he'll remember to mind his manners and treat you with just as much kindness.
...mind you don't take him out of the abbey pond before he's ready.

History:
Little Koa Shorehound was born to two otters of Skipper's crew, Marina Shorehound (of the Galedeep Clan) and Pike Shorehound, a warrior otter who was every bit the 'riverwolf' he was named after.
At roughly the age of two, Koa's parents were killed during a skirmish at the River Moss against a small pack of water rats. Skipper and his crew were able to at least avenge their deaths with a handful of Guosim at their side, and return to the Abbey to give them a warrior's funeral.
The sea-glass pendent had belonged to Koa's mother, and it was Skipper who retrieved it for him. It's his by birthright, along with a handsome broadsword his father had owned, and the Skipper will give him that too when he's old enough to learn how to use it.
Despite the death of his parents at such a young age, Koa has not felt their loss too severely. Around the anniversary of their deaths, however, even the young Koa feels a heavy sadness in his heart, and can be found sitting at the water's edge, swishing his footpaws in the Abbey Pond, just being by himself.
During times like this, the skipper will come and sit with him, and tell him heroic stories about his father, the mighty riverwolf, or about his kind but strong mother, the flower of the River Moss.
With his parents' memories and the stories of them to keep his heart content, Koa has grown up as any Otterbabe should -- cheerful, playful and occasionally naughty!
Relationships:
Marina Shorehound -- Mother, deceased, and the original owner of the seaglass pendent. Hails from the Galedeep Tribe, originally.
Pike Shorehound -- Father, deceased, and the owner of a magnificent great sword Koa will inherit when he's old enough. Also known as the Riverwolf, and was at one pointed suggested for the Skipper position which he ultimately turned down in order to concentrate on his fatherly duties.
Skipper of Otters -- A 'guardian' of sorts (and I use that term lightly), the Skipper is Koa's favorite person, and tends to look out for the little guy whenever he can, sharing stories with his parents or teaching him how to fish.
Other:
Koa is Hawaiian for Brave, Bold, Fearless.
=) oh, and would someone please let me know if I need to add any more to his weaknesses? I tried to keep them short since he's still an Otterbabe.
Oh! and as he grows up (I don't plan on him staying a dibbun forever), am I allowed to edit his profile to match? With permission, of course.
Koa's theme is "Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride" from the movie Lilo and Stitch.

Strengths:
- Strong Swimmer -- it's a well known fact that little Koa barely needed his father's help learning how to swim, his father merely held him in the water and he paddled and wriggled as though he'd been doing it his whole life!
- Brave, Adventurous -- his bravery hinting at a protective nature, Koa can be fierce in the face of peril, as long as that peril isn't much more severe than a grumpy Liberian or a weird noise under the bed.
- Kind-hearted and helpful -- anybeast will tell you that when you need a paw to carry a tray of tea to the infirmary, or a picnic basket out to the lawn, then Koa's your mate!
Weaknesses:
- Rebellious -- unfortunately for Redwall, Koa seems to be going through his rebellious stage a little early, and that combined with his habit of biting, makes for a few bruises here and there. Ouch.
- Defenseless -- If Koa is ever attacked, and he's unable to swim away, 99.9% of the time he'd be considered a deadbeast. Even with the biting, it's not enough to ward off something that truly wants him dead.
- Curiosity -- Curiosity killed the cat, eh? Well it could very well kill the otterbabe if he isn't more careful. Though he's a smart little fella, he isn't quite smart enough to accurately determine what's safe or not.
