Name: Django
Gender: male
Age: 16
Species: harvest mouse/field mouse mix
Occupation: Aspiring warrior
Physical Appearance:
Django's fur is a sandy tan color. He has a large dark brown spot over his right eye and beneath this is a smaller spot of the same color. His ears, fingers, and toes are the same dark brown. His long, prehensile tail is a more golden brown than his body fur. His eyes are a bright, almost gold color. He most often wears a white collared shirt with the sleeves rolled up past his elbows and a faded green tunic over it and a black leather belt.
Possessions:
Django always carries his prized yew staff. He also owns a hunting knife which he straps to his belt sometimes. Usually, a woven leather choker can be seen around his neck, on which is threaded a large red bead.
Personality:
Outwardly, Django is fun-loving, a bit of a show-off, overzealous, and even a little cheeky at times. He'll often play with the Dibbuns just to run off some of his nervous energy. (He has a big soft spot for little ones.) He loves learning new skills, and will spend much of his time with the more experienced abbey-dwellers to see if they'll teach him something new. However, inwardly, Django still grieves over a traumatizing encounter in his past. (More on this in his history.) He hides a lot of pent-up sadness and anger. These pent-up emotions can sometimes come out in furious outbursts over relatively unimportant matters. Usually, though, he tries to find an outlet for them by practicing with his staff, punching the wall a few times, etc. He is reluctant to talk about his past. Not because it is some huge secret that might threaten the safety of Redwall, but because he is afraid he'll start sobbing, which he thinks is a sign of weakness. If asked about where he's from, or about his staff, necklace, or knife, he'll quickly change the subject. He has a short fuse, partially due to his inner turmoil, and once he's mad, there is little that can calm him down other than time spent by himself or a sound beating (administered to him by some beast bigger than he is).
Strengths:
A fun mouse to be around. Django is a quick learner and an eager one, at that. Well-grounded in his beliefs, he is always willing to fight against anything he thinks is wrong. He loves to be around the Dibbuns.
Weaknesses:
Short-tempered and sometimes mouthy, Django doesn't always think before he speaks. If someone insists he talk about his past, he will become furious, yelling at him/her until he is blue in the face. Afterwards, he will avoid speaking to that person for a few days lest s/he asks about his past again.
History:
Django was born in Mossflower wood, to Martin (coincidental name), a field mouse, and Diana, a harvest mouse. Diana's parents and her older brother did not approve of the marriage, so Martin and Diana eloped. Diana died giving birth to Django, and the boy has no memory of her save the choker round his neck. Martin raised Django until the boy was nearly sixteen, and it was then Martin decided to take his son to Redwall. Martin had visited the place once or twice, but Diana's brother had been living nearby, and he still hated Martin. Finally, Diana's brother had left Mossflower, or so Martin had heard, so he felt it was safe to travel to Redwall. However, Clarence, Diana's brother was lying in wait for the two mice as they hailed the abbey. Clarence shot and killed Martin with a poisoned arrow, but he let Django live. Not even Clarence knows why. During the fray, Django picked up a fallen yew branch and used it as a staff to fend off Clarence. Before Martin died, he gave Django his hunting knife. After witnessing the death of his father, Django nearly took his own life, but an abbey-goer saw him outside the east wicker gate and brought him into Redwall. To take his mind off what had happened, Django turned the yew branch into a real staff, cutting off the twigs and leaves, and smoothing the wood. He can often be seen with the staff, running his paws over it like it was a living thing.
Relationships:
Django loves to make new friends, and he is currently searching for a "special someone."
Other:
Django's necklace was one made for his mother by Clarence, his uncle.
Django wants to become a traveling warrior, but he has a lot to learn.
Django's name means "I awake" in Latin.
He carved his name and his father's name into his yew staff.
